Chapter 11: Chapter 11

The earth below Tyson and Chi began to quake causing even small pebbles to bounce up and down. As they looked around they struggled to keep their balance while getting quickly to their feet. Chi was not sure what was going on and it caused him to waver in every motion he made. Tyson could see the puzzled expression on Chi's face while quickly taking action. Grasping onto the man's arm and pulling him out of the way of a large tree just as it was about to flatten him.

"What's going on?!" Chi shouted his question over the roar of the shifting terrain. His body shook from the nerves that were sent on edge. In front of them from all around the wildlife was beginning to go up in a fiery blaze.

"No time to question it. We're moving. Now." Tyson spoke up calmly as he had no idea why the terrain was suddenly acting up around them but he knew enough that he could not stand around and question everything. If he allowed himself to waver in the slightest it would only risk his own life. He had to act quick in order to keep himself alive.

"Moving? Where? What about Fae he-" Chi was worried about the other man who they had been waiting for to return but Tyson was not going to give him time to waver when it came to their own safety.

"He'll be fine. Run! Now!" Tyson's loud and cold tone could be heard through the mask as he took his hand and shoved Chi hard so that he would instantly take to running. His own steps were only slightly behind Chi in order to keep an eye on the surroundings around the both of them as they ran. The once lush and green mountainside had began to catch fire from all around as small droplets of cold rain fell from the blood colored sky above. It did not take much for Tyson to know the rain was simply to ensure the fire could not put an end to every life among Numen's Garden. He had been surviving the garden for long enough to know the god would never allow his so called game to end to quickly.

Swinging his dual sided blade around in the air as they ran his blade sliced through branch after branch that fell in their direction. The sharp blade managed to slice through every bit of brush that got in their way. He could see the panicked expression hidden behind Chi's eyes as he tried to dodge the incoming fire that rained down from the trees above. Coming to a pause in their running they found their path blocked by a river. The cold water was rushing too quickly to cross to the other side if they had got in the river they would surely find themselves being swept away by the current.

It had been years since Tyson had allowed himself to stand so firmly behind another but the familiar warmth he felt watching Chi's innocence seemed to rouse something inside him. Acting completely on his own instincts he wrapped his arms tightly around Chi from behind and threw himself into the cold river. He could hear the surprised shout from Chi just before they hit the water. Being engulfed by the cold water made his body feel chilled to the bone as he refused to allow his body to let up his hold on the man. Struggling to keep Chi close he could feel the current washing them both down the river.

It did not take much for Tyson to know what was in store for them as he forced their way to the surface of the water. Both of them gasping for air was drowned out by the sounds of the large waterfall up ahead. The sight of Chi coughing up the water in his arm made him question his own actions for a split second but he pushed himself back on track and pulled the man in close just as he felt their bodies plunging down from the fall. It was not a first for his body to take a heavy blow but no matter how many times he'd taken hits from other survivors attacking him over the years the feeling of his body landing in the water below from the high waterfall still made his body ache like a living hell for him to the point that his conscious quickly faded out.

The moment they landed in the water below Tyson had tried his hardest to take most of the impact onto himself leaving Chi to fend for himself the second his conscious faded away. Chi did not know what to do but the sight of Tyson sinking below the water scared him as he did not like the thought of being left alone in Numen's Garden. He had already lost Fae for all he knew and how Tyson was going to drown if he did not react. Diving into the water he fought to keep his eyes open to follow the sinking form of Tyson. As he reached out his hand got a grip on Tyson's black clothing and began to pull him to the surface.

"Come on, wake up already. This is no place for us to be sleeping.." Chi spoke out in a shuddering tone from the cold water and shaken nerves as he struggled to drag Tyson to dry land. Pulling the man as hard as he could he dragged his body onto the grass and lay him down beside a tree. They had made it safely away from the fire but they were now both soaked from the cold river.

Not knowing whether or not he should try to help Tyson he reached out and slowly began to pull the demon's mask away from his face. Tyson's long, wet, black and red hair fell to the side of his face as the mask was removed. A faint blush began to cover Chi's face as he got lost for a second in the sight of the man's face. Though Tyson wore such a scary mask while fighting for his life in Numen's Garden his face when it was removed was one of beauty.
