Chapter 37: F-Rank Monsters
Roar...
Noticing that Skarn stopped in its tracks, Kai swiftly bolted towards the nearest boulder, seeking cover behind it. Within seconds, he had vanished from the monster's sight and hid himself behind a massive stone.
Peeking out from behind the boulder, Kai caught a glimpse of the Skarn, which had now turned away from his direction and was fixated on the surrounding forest. Its emerald-green eyes darted back and forth, scanning the shadows and searching for the source of the deafening roar that had interrupted its hunt.
Soon, a creature emerged out of the greenery, catching the Skarn's attention. It was a peculiar animal, resembling a crossbreed between a wolf and a rat, with a wiry frame and shaggy, matted fur.
As the creature revealed itself, Kai watched in awe, taking in the details of the monster's purple fur and its menacing fangs that protruded from its powerful jaws. From his heightened senses, Kai could tell that the creature was a F-Rank monster, just like the Skarn, and seemed unafraid of the beast's tough defenses.
Kai's heart raced with excitement and curiosity as he watched the strange creature reveal itself. He had never seen anything quite like it before, and couldn't help but feel a sense of wariness towards its unknown abilities and properties.
As he hid behind the boulder, he hoped that the Skarn would engage the creature in a fight, giving him the chance to observe and analyze the creature's strengths and weaknesses. Kai knew that studying the behavior and tactics of other monsters was crucial for survival in this dangerous forest, and he was eager to learn as much as he could about this new creature.

Luckily, it seemed that both creatures had their sights set on one another, and without warning, they charged towards each other with ferocious intensity.
As the two beasts collided, Kai felt the ground beneath him shake with the force of their impact. Dust and debris flew into the air, and Kai struggled to keep his balance as the vibrations rippled through his body.
Despite his fear and uncertainty, he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the sheer power and raw Mana displayed by the two monsters.
The Skarn launched a series of powerful, but slow attacks, attempting to crush the rat-like monster with its immense strength. However, the smaller creature proved to be incredibly agile, effortlessly dodging and weaving through the Skarn's attacks.
It was clear that the creature was trying to find a way to bypass the Skarn's heavy armor and deal some damage to the massive beast.
With each dodge, the rat-like monster would dart in and deliver quick, precise strikes to the Skarn's unprotected areas, trying to wear down the beast bit by bit.
Despite the Skarn's overwhelming size and strength, it was clear that the smaller creature was not to be underestimated.
Kai was torn between his desire to flee the area and his eagerness to witness the outcome of the fierce battle between the two monsters. He was convinced that the creatures would continue fighting until one of them finally perished, and it was only a matter of time before that happened.
With each passing moment, the Skarn's devastating attacks took a toll on the rat-like wolf, causing it to falter and stumble. However, the smaller creature's agility and precision allowed it to dodge and weave through the Skarn's strikes, constantly searching for an opening to strike back. Meanwhile, the Skarn's heavy armor was slowly being worn down by the rat-like wolf's quick and precise attacks, leaving the massive beast increasingly vulnerable to more damaging blows.
Roar...
Kai's eyes widened in amazement as he witnessed the wolf-like creature execute a daring maneuver. With lightning-fast reflexes, the creature ducked beneath the Skarn's incoming tail, narrowly avoiding the attack, and used its sharp claws to rake across the monster's exposed leg, tearing at its thick skin and tendons.
The Skarn roared in pain, stumbling and nearly collapsing from the damage inflicted by the wolf's attack. Its once-powerful leg now shook and wobbled, weakened by the deep cuts and lacerations.
Kai could see the fury in the Skarn's eyes as it turned its attention towards the wolf, now recognizing the creature as a legitimate threat. With renewed vigor, the Skarn charged towards the wolf, determined to crush its adversary with a massive stomp.
However, the wolf was not about to be caught off guard. With a burst of speed, it darted around the Skarn's massive frame, evading the attack and delivering a swift and decisive blow to the monster's vulnerable flank.
The Skarn let out a deafening roar of pain as the wolf's sharp claws dug deep into its flesh, drawing blood and causing the monster to stagger. Despite its injuries, the Skarn continued to fight, unleashing a flurry of attacks in an attempt to crush the wolf and reclaim its dominance.
Kai watched in awe as the battle continued to escalate, with both creatures showing no signs of backing down. He knew that this was a rare opportunity to witness the raw power and cunning of two F-Rank monsters, and he was determined to stay and observe as much as he could.
Boom...
Suddenly Skarn spun its massive body, swinging its long tail in a wide arc and catching the wolf by surprise.
The wolf, in the middle of a lunge towards the Skarn, was unable to avoid the ambush and was hit by the Skarn's attack. The force of the impact sent the wolf hurtling through the air, crashing to the ground with a loud thud.
Kai could see that the wolf was badly injured, its body crumpled and broken from the Skarn's brutal attack. The creature lay motionless on the ground, its breathing shallow and labored.
The Skarn, sensing victory, roared in triumph and lumbered towards the downed wolf. With one massive foot, the monster attempted to crush the smaller creature, hoping to end the battle once and for all.
Kai also prepared to leave, he had considered attempting to finish off the injured winner, but after assessing the situation and realizing that Skarn had sustained no major damage, he ultimately made the decision to retreat.

Merry Christmas!
I've had a lot in my life during the past few months and, finally, I have some free time on my hands. Although, I didn't plan this, I'll try to continue this novel, as well as editing the chapters of my first ever novel 'Rebirth of the Shadow Mage or smthing'.
