Chapter 2: Dual Souls

When Aura looked at his soul, he expected to see the same light blue, cloudy sphere he had been used to seeing countless times in the past. This time, however, he saw a sight that almost made him yell out in joy. Two orbs orbiting each other!

[Aura - Monster Trainer]

Race: Human

Level: 1

Health: 10/10 (Currently healthy)

Constitution: 5

Strength: 5

Agility: 5

Defense: 5

Mana: 20

[Currently Contracted Monsters]

None

His basic stats were the same as when he was a starting monster trainer in his past life, 5 in constitution, strength, agility, and defense was the average for a human with no contracted monsters. His lack of contracted monsters made some sense, it would be unreasonable for them to follow him into the past as well. However, his mana of 20 was double that of the average human! Even the most talented of monster trainers would only have a starting mana of 14 or 15. This could only be explained by the two blue orbs he could see in front of his eyes. A human only has one soul, that's common sense. But somehow, during his crossing, his soul must have merged with the soul of his past self, resulting in this anomaly that had never occurred before.

With his newly improved talent, Aura had much more confidence in being the main character of this era. Previously he had been worried that no matter how much of an advantage he held over others in terms of information, that advantage would eventually fade away, and over time, those famous talented trainers of the past would overtake him with their faster growth rate. Now, he could rest assured. His base mana of 20 was equivalent to a shockingly high level of talent, and he would no longer have to live a life of mediocrity.

Previously, he had been forced into specializing in fire types. There was nothing wrong with choosing a basic elemental specialization, many top trainers also chose this route, but the difference was that this, in addition to the pure physical route, was the only option available to the average trainer. Having monsters actively summoned drained the mana of the monster trainer, and the basic monsters, which are single element and physical, required the least amount of mana to stay active. It wasn't that average trainers couldn't contract rarer monsters like those with multiple elements or those with rarer elements like space or mystical monsters, it was just that they would run out of steam in a matter of minutes.

With the knowledge that he had a starting mana value of 20, some paths that were previously out of consideration were now open. After much thought, Aura decided to specialize in mystical monsters. These were monsters that had strange and varied abilities, such as creating illusions or various arrays and runes. He chose this specialization as it gave him the widest variety of abilities, which would be necessary to make full use of his knowledge of the future. Having a specialization was important as most monsters of different types would have conflicting abilities, such as having a fire type and a water type fight together, which would weaken both their attacks. Upon reaching level 50, monster trainers would also be able to open up the embryonic form of a domain, which would boost the abilities of a certain type of monster in it's range. Choosing only a specific type of monster to train would lead to a stronger and more focused domain.

Having cleared his thoughts, Aura stood up to meet his sister in a manner and setting he thought he would never be able to do again.
