Chapter 24: Trip to Flower village
The Feng Family was business based but with a twist. The methods they used to develop fast were ruthless and unfair. If they needed something,they would get it from you by force. They even managed to get away with it till this point because of a certain unknown powerful backer.
Honestly, Yue Ling had to admit she was stupid to want to marry Feng Laotian.
The Fengs', despite how successful they were , few people from powerful families got married into the family. The whole process of marriage was a scam whereby you technically paid dowry indirectly to your husband.
Before her "supposed" marriage to Feng Laotian, she gave away all her personal properties to Feng Laotian. This according to them showed your loyalty to your spouse and the family.
As the saying goes,"Two become one", what was hers became his but what was his remained his.
This long performed tradition seemed like it had died down but it was still very much in progress.
She wondered if Lin Meilin went through the same. Since she didn't live to see it all, she was curious about how it all ended.
The next day in the morning, they were ready to leave for Flower Village with their team.
These past hours, Yue Ling was cautious of Lehan but hinted no one,there was no way she could explain suspected somebody she had just met. Okay they met twice but the first meeting was too short to make judgement, the past was her only reference whereby she didn't know anything much except the little about the history of the ring. Her relationship with Lehan now looked like mutual friendship.
They travelled in a five seater military Jeep to reach there, first for easier access when they get there because the vehicle wasn't commonly used thus expressing identity and also because the place was too far and the roads ahead were a bit bad. The researchers were arriving later in the evening.
To be exact, Flower Village was a border District. It was a long journey and the drivers for the trip were Yiren and Han Li.
Lehan sat in the front seat next to the driver while Bingbing and Yue Ling sat together at the back occasionally accompanied by Yiren or Han Li depending on who was driving.
Both Yiren and Han Li drove steadily throughout the journey giving Bingbing a chance to rest. She hadn't slept well these past days and today she accidentally slept off on Yue Ling's shoulder. Yue Ling, in understanding, sat straight to accommodate her cousin. She occasionally took sneak peeks at Lehan in the front.
She investigated him but found nothing suspicious yet whenever she saw him and remembered he could be connected to Feng Laotian,she had no choice but not to trust him.
Lehan, through instinct, felt someone staring at him, his training in the military for years made him vigilant enough to tell such. When he looked back, Yiren was on his phone while Bingbing and Yue Ling looked like they were sleeping.
He had sensed that Yue Ling didn't trust him but didn't show it,it could be because they weren't familiar with each other,he thought as he looked back ahead.
After long hours of traveling, they approached Flower Village.
Because the disease wasn't communicable,the people weren't in lock down but were quarantined to prevent the disease from spreading in case of any special cases.
The advantage was that the Middle aged and slightly older were the ones affected so the young were working. You could see a few people working on their small plots.
The place looked so beautiful because of all the different colors of flowers that gave a natural painting to the environment. It was easy to forget the problem they were facing because of how well maintained it looked. Still, even though a few younger and older people stayed,others left in fear of catching illness. The roads throughout the journey to the camps were empty and deserted.
Han Li showed the acceptance letters when they arrived the camping area and they drove to a place where they could park.
The camping area for Yi Research Institute and Lin Family Hospital Research Institutes were surprisingly not far from each other. The barrier was that even though they were near, Lin Family Hospitals' Research Institute and others that weren't originally invited had to camp outside the gazetted area for those that were invited.
Yue Ling started working immediately alone because she didn't want to make a name for herself and end up alerting the enemy. She was going to write reports then have them explained by the Deputy head of research.
Though the disease wasn't spread by contact,she organised herself and wore protective gear before going to the camps with infected people.
By the way, the hospitals that weren't chosen went through a long process to get access to the patients and it had to be approved by Yue Ling and her team. She therefore didn't have to worry about meeting anybody.
The patients were around 20 plus now who were still alive and 24 had died. These people to Yue Ling could be her aunt or uncle or even mother given the age. She couldn't bear to see her family members in such a predicament.
Just as she remembered,she wrote reports about the patients while observing their symptoms and current conditions. They all were lying on separate metallic beds with a little distance.
Movement was possible but because of back pain, some of them couldn't stand at all or stood for a short while. She patiently moved to each of them while checking blood pressure and making observations. This wasn't going to last, she was going to solve it earlier without letting anybody suspect.
Yiren and Bingbing were somewhere within the camp while Han Li and Lehan had gone to look for the whereabouts of Yi Zhoujan. They wanted insisted on going but it wasn't possible because they had to stay to represent the Hospital and give Yue Ling a hand anytime. Yiren managed the hospital so he had to stay mostly but Bingbing stayed because she wouldn't help much even though she went there.
Meanwhile, Meilin and her team were fully ready and available but couldn't get access to see the patients. It was already getting late meaning they would have to wait till tomorrow.
Rather than saving lives, this was a competition to Meilin yet she couldn't even get full access. They had to wait for others to finish and end up feasting on left overs.
This was infuriating,it felt like the Yu's were showing off their power despite not arriving completely. Only a few of their members were around so why wouldn't they let them in.
