Chapter 17: Class Selection

Trace deactivated Supreme Concentration as he ran back, his legs pumping him at speeds impossible for a human.

Trace couldn't help but feel excited. It was like he was a kid at Christmas, eagerly opening his gift.

The terrain was a blur. Trace had made quite the distance hunting, but at top speed, it would only take him a few minutes.

It's midday, according to the suns...

Trace wondered how long the class selection and evolution would look like. It would be interesting, that's for sure. And he'd finally be able to use skills. Skills like the one the hawk used.

When Trace practically leaped into his tree, Garpon was still missing, but Trace didn't pay any mind as he quickly sat down in a comfortable position and opened his screen.

[Commence with the Evolution?]

[Commence with the Class Selection?]

Trace had already decided he would choose his class first. Class Selection!

_________

Trace looked at this screen intently. It was a lot of information to take in, but he decided to go through it one by one.

First up, warrior. Basic class. Trace assumed everyone got this class as an option. It seemed simple enough. Trace also assumed that fixed attributes meant the attributes he would gain upon picking the class, while free attributes would be the attribute points he got for each level. Right now he got 3 for each level.

Speaking of which, he still had over 50 free points lying around that he still needed to allocate.

Anyway, the warrior class seemed good enough that Trace might just pick it.

Next up was Acolyte.

Trace wanted to pick it straight on an impulse, because magic. However, the rational part of his brain made him hold back from any rash decisions.

As Trace was right now, he wasn't really a intelligence and wisdom focused guy. While magic may prove useful, Trace had no doubt he could still learn it using Essence.

Next up was Cleric.

This one was interesting. It was Common, which probably meant it was better than Basic. From what Trace understood, it was a healing class.

Again, he was more of a physical guy, and he already had [Surging Vitality].

Next up was Pugilist.

This class was perfectly suited for him. Trace had even been mainly using his body to fight. Granted, he was spawned without anything, but still. It was also a Rare, so Trace saw it as an improved Warrior class. Trace would most definitely pick it if the next option wasn't something he was interested in.

Speaking of which, Trace would not be choosing it.

It was a fucking gamble, and his Luck was at 20. No way would Trace be choosing that while the perfect class was staring at him. Getting the best class wasn't always a good thing.

What if Trace got a one-in-a-million Epic class, only to find that he could only guide people and no longer fight and lose levels if he did? That would practically make him dead meat.

Without any further contemplation, Trace picked Pugilist.

A warm feeling spread through his body as Trace felt every physical part of his body heightened. Trace only enjoyed the feeling for a few seconds before he commenced evolution.

...

The Daofather stood on top of the impossibly tall mountain peak that overlooked his world. The world was no longer green. Instead, the world was desolate, and beneath him, a war raged.

One of B-Grades.

This war would've destroyed a solar system and made a sector quake, but this was a special planet that housed a sector, big enough to contain these powerhouses.

His face was neither handsome nor ugly, his face ambiguous, making him look like a completely default human.

"Father." A voice said from his right, coming from a short, old man. The man's graying beard was short, and everything about him pointed to him being a dying man. His eyes however, were sharp. Sharp to the point that he could cut a C-Grade to death with his gaze without effort.

The Daofather turned towards his A-Grade disciple. "Yes, my child?"

"The integration of the 100th universe has begun." The old man said, cracking a smile. "It is time to recruit new talent."

The Daofather sighed. "I cannot do that."

The old man looked momentarily confused. "Excuse me, Father, but could you not just create a clone of yourself and then create a portal?"

The Daofather smiled. "Daofather is simply a name I claimed. While I can weld many Daos- I cannot wield all of them. Far from it. In fact, I have not claimed the Dao of Creation or the Dao of Oblivion, the Dao of Origin, or even the elusive Dao of Power. The Heavens detest me- it will not be for thousands of years until I claim Primordial Chaos."

The Daofather continued to smile at the still confused old man. "However, I do hold a drop of Primal Dao I stole from Alvod. And when I absorb it..."

"All shall know my name."

The old man shivered as the sky cracked. The B-Grades looked above to see what was happening, but the Daofather quickly reigned in his slither of bloodlust.

Even a slither of bloodlust from a peak A-Grade, however, was enough to make most B-Grades drop. The war immediately continued, but the tense atmosphere remained as the Daofather turned his attention back onto the fight.

The Daofather had never been a benevolent god.
