Chapter 6: The First step (3)

"Soul of Urdur." I proclaimed with a smirk on my face

Watching that brief second of surprise cross his face was worth it.

Each school of magic was dedicated to a certain deity that once roamed the lands of Ineilall:

Otar, God of fire

Ahida, Goddess of wind

Krenuna, Goddess of water

Urdur, God of thunder

Just to name a few, but when they ascended to a higher realm, they left all their worldly possessions for their followers to come. The Soul of Urdur was a fruit that was cultivated by Urdur himself by siphoning portions of his soul into the fruit, blessing it with part of his soul. If a lighting user were to ingest the fruit it was said they could break into the next rank, and it became easier to comprehend the very nature of lighting. Provided they survived of course, due to the amount of pure soul power they had to absorb.

"Is that enough of a reason for you to help me, father? I said not allowing the smirk to fall from my face.

"What makes you think I would believe a child?" Was his counter.

"That is the risk you will have to take. I can give you the approximate location of the fruit, or I will take my offer to Arch-mage Fylson. I'm sure he will provide me with what I need." I finished verbally passing the ball back into his hand.

"What is to stop me from having you tortured for the location?" he replied without batting an eye.

"We both know information gained from torture is hardly reliable as best. The first answer given under torture is usually false, the second answer is mainly false with truth sprinkled into it, and by the time the third time comes around they're usually broken and useless then." I smoothly replied like it was no big deal.

How did I know about this? That's easy, in the game after the events at the academy you meet up with Arch-mage Fylson and help him in his search for the Soul of Urdur.

Both Duke Maxamus and Arch-mage Fylson were the two most powerful lighting users in the game and were often at odds with each other. After the events of the academy where Ciaran was killed for allying with the demon realm, Duke Maxamus was blamed for the actions of his son and lost a lot of power, hoping to gain that power back he began searching for the fruit with more fervor.

Enter the protagonist after entering the mages academy and learning about the struggles Arch-mage Fylson was facing, decide to team up with him, and began the search for the fruit. After many deaths, restarts, and rage fueled by too much caffeine. It finally ended with Duke holding the fruit and making some grand villain speech about having to save the kingdom. Only to be assassinated by some mysterious assassin and the fall of House Maxamus was complete.

Why didn't I take the fruit for myself? Another simple answer, I was not a lighting user. I had the magic ability of every cliché villain ever…. The ability to wield the power of darkness…. Shocker. Although I wouldn't awaken till I was ten years old.

"Sarya." Came my father's voice after a few minutes of silence.

A brief gust of wind lightly caressed my neck and the very beautiful elf…. Whoever thinks she scary needs to have their heads checked… stood in front of me with her back toward me.

"Your grace." Came the soft but powerful whisper

"By the end of the week, I want to have a meeting with Axton Lambert and Lucia Windsor." My father said acting like the previous conversation never happened.

"Your grace." Was her only reply before disappearing

HA!! I thought in my head, take that you jerk of a father. I mean who would ever joke about torturing their child… Right…. Must be a joke…. I hope….

But now my first step to surviving in this world was nearly complete.

Why help my father become powerful? Simple the resources House Maxamus has can help me grow powerful in the future. I just needed to show dear old dad that I was worth his time.

"Now tell me where it resides." My father said after Sarya left.

"Father." I began dropping the smirk "You think the Soul or Urdur is worth a mere two people?" Pausing for dramatic effect. "No father, from now on you will support me and help me become powerful. Do you think I am weak and will never become stronger than D rank? I will prove you wrong. I am the son of Duke Varjan Maxamus and I will not kneel before anyone! Not even you, father." Pausing to let everything sink in, I finished by declaring in a cold tone. "Become the foundation in my path to power."

The silence between us was so profound that you could hear the electricity humming throughout the air, and no not the electricity from the mana crystal that was embedded into the wall serving as the light for the room.

No, the electricity was coming from my father as he started releasing waves of magic throughout the room, and that cold look in his eyes that never disappeared became even more disturbing. He was beyond pissed.

Who wouldn't, for a Maxamus the deal I made was if he wanted power then he will have to kneel and allow me to use him.

Pride Vs. Power….

The two things that made a Maxamaus a Maxamus, and my father was at war trying to decide which was more important.

Letting my smirk make its appearance again because I knew which side was going to win and after thirty seconds, I was not disappointed. The mana in the air suddenly disappeared as my father stood up and walked toward me.

"Impressive." He spoke.

"You truly are a Maxamus and not your mother's son." He paused before continuing.

"I, Varjan Maxamus do swear, if you help me achieve power, I will become your foundation."
