Chapter 34: The City Gates Part 2
At the front gate, the other guards who were watching Todd all smirked and began taking bets. "How much you want to bet he lets her through quickly without any check but still gets the cold shoulder."
"Didn't she do this the last time because she came late and didn't want to get locked out? He basically got cock blocked before he could even get it up."
"Hahaha! Why are we even betting on her rejecting him after she gets what she wants? We should be betting on what his reaction will be."
"Alright, I bet he cries!"
"I bet he gets depressed for the rest of his shift."
The other guards began placing their credits down to see who would win while Todd stood frozen from the cute expression on Lilly's face. "Ahaha. Sure sure, come pull out of line and follow me." He answered with no hesitation at all. He really couldn't say no to the girl he loved.
Lilly gave him a beaming sweet smile as she told him to lead the way. Like a puppy who found its master, he wagged his tail and quickly walked off to the side, with Lilly slowly following behind him. They still had to undergo a scan, but that was it. It was not a thorough search like the others had to go through, which was what Lilly was aiming for.
In the back of the loader, Eve was preparing to undergo her sleep mode. "Eve, are you ready?"
"Mmm… Hopefully, this will not feel too weird… Only set it for an hour, though." Eve did not want to be in a near off mode state for too long.
"Already set. I will be turning it on now. There will be an auto start if anyone tries to touch our battery core. Counting down until sleep mode activated: 10…. 9…. 5… 1..." Aiu counted down the world around Eve went dark, but that only lasted a split second. Soon a bright light filled her eyes, but when she looked down at her hands, she found that they were no longer robotic but human.
"This..." Eve was very confused at this time. She was starting to think what she went through was a dream.
"You're finally here..." A voice called out to Eve in her mind. She turned to look to see a young girl in white standing there looking back at her.
"You are?" Eve asked. She still had no grasp on her surroundings but seeing a young girl with long black hair, hazel eyes, and wearing a white dress floating in mid air made her think that maybe she was truly dead after all.
"It is too soon for you to know who I am, but you can say that I am the one who created the astral system. I have brought your consciousness into the astral system so I could speak with you." There was a look of longing in the young girl's eyes which made Eve feel a little weird. She wondered just who this young girl was and why she was looking at her like this.
"Then why did you bring me here? Am I dead?" Eve asked.
"Is it possible for an A.I. to die?" The girl tilted her head to the side. "If you mean shut down, then no, you are still alive and kicking. You are in your sleep mode. You did die in your past life, but now you are nothing more than an A.I. hoo...." The girl quickly covered her mouth as she said: "Oops… I said too much... "
The girl giggled and stuck out her tongue as she landed in front of Eve before leaning down and embracing her. "To think I could finally do this..." The girl muttered softly, her words even more confusing than before.
Eve sat there frozen stiff unsure of what she should do. She had never met a girl like this before, so she had no idea who this was. She spent so many years locked up in her office creating Aui there was no way she would have met a young girl like this. The girl let Eve go and stepped back with a bright smile. "Maybe we will meet again in the future…" with these words, Eve's vision went dark again…
Back to Lilly a little earlier….
"Scan is okay. Hey Lilly, how about..." Todd was about to ask Lilly out yet again when a finger touched his lips, stopping what he was about to say.
"Sorry, but I hardly shower and piss myself on a daily. I have to go bye!" Lilly beamed a smile and drove off, leaving a stupefied Todd standing there in a daze. He reached up and placed his finger on his lip. "I will never wash these lips again."
"Ahahaha! You got played! But thanks to that, I won the bet!" One of the other regards yelled out as he received a bunch of credits from the other guards. He was in a good mood today.
Todd ignored them as he stood there watching Lilly's loader disappear down the road. He felt that by Lilly touching his lips just now, she was sending him a message that he should try a little harder! This, of course, was his own delusion.
Lilly arrived at her warehouse and popped the sliding doors before hopping back into the loader and backing everything in. The warehouse was pretty big but was filled with scavenged parts. She unhooked the raider's truck first before clearing the parts off Eve. When she saw the rifle in Eve's hands she let out a sigh of relief that nothing happened. She sat on the edge of the loader looking at Eve's damaged body lost in thought. "I wondered what you went through..."
As time ticked by the light in Eve's eye finally began to glow again as her body exited sleep mode. Eve's consciousness recovered but she did not get up right away. She was still trying to figure out who that girl was. "Aiu, have I ever had a young girl with black hair and hazel eyes in my life?"
