Chapter 8: Diagon Alley

After I got kicked out of the library by Narcissa. I went back to my room after dinner and waited for Dobby. If Narcissa doesn't allow me to get books, my next bet is Dobby. But currently, he is on his errand to get me toys.

After some time, he returned with a bag filled with children's fairy tale books and toys. I just went through them all briefly in search of something useful. Butt alas, they were nothing but toys and ordinary books. Well, at least ordinary to the wizards.

"Hey, Dobby," I called.

"Yes, master." He replied.

"Can you help me to sneak into the library," I asked.

"I can't master as a mistress has set up a ward to prevent your entry into it." He replied.

Well, that is a bit overboard. What does it have to do with her if I gained some knowledge? Unless she purposely wants Draco to stay naive.

But why would she want something like this to happen to her son? Ah, I am getting nowhere with this. I decided to add her to the list of potential candidates who might have placed this seal or whatever on me.

"Well, can you still enter the library, Dobby," I asked.

"Yes, master. There is no restriction on me." He said.

"Great. I have a job for you. I want you to sneak into the library and get me some books." I said.

"Books on what master." He asked.

"Get me some books about current affairs and general knowledge about the wizarding world," I said.

"Ok, master." He said.

"Wait, Dobby, also don't let Narcissa know about this. Stay hidden." I said.

"As you wish, master." And he went away with a POP.

After Dobby left, I started to pace around the room. My leg was still hurting with each step due to that cut from that glass Strad earlier.

I had done basic first aid with Dobby's help earlier. I didn't tell my new "parents" Because I was sure they would cure it in a second with some magic spells. But I don't want it to heal so soon.

Pacing for a while around the room, I decided to give my wand a second try. I had a hinge that this time would be different. Squeezing my right leg, I increased the pain by many folds.

Then gritting my teeth, I pointed my wand at the opposite wall and chanted, "Lumos."

A white sphere of light lit up at the end of my wand. It wasn't anything grand, but it was enough for now. Moreover, it helped me discover an important point.

The pain was overriding whatever seal that has been placed on me. My mind was clearer than ever before. It is a big relief for me as now I can plan ahead without any problem and cut through this world using my cunning.

As I paced back and forth, I started planning my journey. The constant pain from my feet kept me in an optimal mental state.

But as I tried to plan a future route, Dobby Popped back in. He was holding a stack of books in his hands.

"I have bought all the books I thought would be of help to master." He said.

"Thanks, Dobby. You can take a rest now. It's getting late," I said, sending him away as the night deepened.

The piles of books now lay on my bed. The moonlight through the big arched windows gave me enough lighting to read through those books. Being someone who loved books helped me to go through them all at lightning speed.

As Draco got engrossed in reading, the time started to fly past. The moonlight from the windows slowly gave way to sunlight. The sound of crickets changed to the chirping of birds.

Neatly folded books were placed on the right side of Draco's bed, forming a stack. Draco slowly returned to reality as he finally finished the last page of the last book. Closing the book, he placed it on top of the stack of books.

I slowly stretched my hands and yawned. It had been a long night. I managed to pull a one-nighter, and now I am dead tired, but at least I finished all the books Dobby bought me.

They gave me a general idea of what's happening in this world. This world looks like an exact copy of the Harry Potter world from the perspective of those books. But I have a feeling that there is more to the world than that, and I will have to slowly unravel its mysteries.

First, I will have to pay a visit to the goblins. Then get this stupid seal or whatever off me.

"ahhhh-hhaaaaaa" Man pulling an all-nighter has taken a toll on me. So l decided to take a short nap to get refreshed.

After sleeping for a while, I went out to Diagon Alley. Narcissa was a bit skeptical about my sudden interest in visiting the alley. But she finally gave in after I started spewing nonsense about the quidditch cup and wanting to buy some of their newest figures.

I may have gone overboard with that as I have spewed nonsense nonstop like a Wikipedia. Well, it was all thanks to the books Dobby gave me.

Now that we are here, it's time to hit the bank. Narcissa had only given me a few Galleons. I wish she had given me the key to my volt.

The morning air was crisp and cool, and the sun was just beginning to peek over the tops of the tall, narrow buildings that lined the street. The cobblestones underfoot were slick with a light dew, and footsteps echoed off the walls.

To the left, the towering façade of Gringotts Bank, its white marble pillars gleaming in the early morning light. The bronze doors were closed at this early hour, but inside lay untold riches, guarded by the fierce dragons and goblin tellers who ran the bank.

To the right, rows of quaint, colorful shops, their awnings still rolled up, and their windows shuttered. Each store held its unique treasures and secrets, waiting to be discovered by the intrepid wizard or witch who knew where to look.

Further down the street, the crowds started to gather. The street was alive with the sounds of magic.

Wands clacked against the cobblestones as they were withdrawn from pockets and sleeves, and small puffs of smoke rose up from the chimneys of nearby shops.

In front of Flourish and Blotts, the bookstore, a line was already forming for the morning's book signing by Gilderoy Lockhart.

The door is just opening at the entrance to Ollivanders, the wand shop. A tall, thin wizard with silver hair stood in the doorway, beckoning the waiting customers inside.

As the morning wore on, the crowds grew thicker, the noise louder, and the excitement more palpable. The streets were filled with laughter and chatter, with the occasional burst of magic and the occasional cry of surprise or delight.

Passing all these shops, I went to the Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

If things go according to plan, I will get VIP treatment from the goblins in no time. But if it doesn't, I must resort to plan B. And it won't end well for some.
