Chapter 97: The Good Days

After finishing that crystal, I decided to move on.

("Let's check out "The Good Days" memory crystal.") [Solace]

Turning on the crystal, I saw Lapis, The Sword King, and a young boy sitting by a campfire.

"May you do the honors, Cor?" [Lapis]

The Sword King remained silent. Instead of saying a word, he pulled out some fish and began to skewer them.

"Are you joining us?" [Lapis]

She asked the young boy in a soft tone.

"Hmph. I have my own food." [Young Boy]

Reaching into a bag hanging around his waist, he pulled out this jerky looking thing.

"...That's your food?" [Lapis]

"Yeah. What's it to you?" [Young Boy]

"That's slave food." [Lapis]

The boy looked at her with a confused expression.

"Were you a slave?" [Lapis]

"Don't call me that, old hag." [Young Boy]

"What did you call me?" [Lapis]

The young boy scoffed.

"An old hag. You're over four hundred years old. Why do you pretend to be young?" [Young Boy]

First thing about that line: I don't think I was supposed to hear that. Second: That boy has a lot of balls to say that.

"Oh? You want to die that much?" [Lapis]

"Like you could even kill me." [Young Boy]

Purple lightning surged around Lapis, but the young boy remained calm.

"Enough." [Cor Sanguis]

Stepping in right as things were about to get heated, Lapis backed down.

"Thought so." [Young Boy]

He raised the jerky to his mouth, but The Sword King snatched the jerky from the boy.

"What are you doing, you old fart?!" [Young Boy]

"Wait." [Cor Sanguis]

Putting a hand up, he slowly roasted the fish. Once finished, The Sword King handed the boy one.

"What's this? Charity? I don't need it." [Young Boy]

Looking at The Sword King, the young boy raised his chin with pride.

"Eat." [Sword King]

"...Didn't you hear me, old man?" [Young Boy]

Still holding out a freshly cooked fish, The Sword King quietly stared into his eyes.

"Eat." [Sword King]

The young boy stared back at him. Standing there in silence, the boy took the skewer and clicked his tongue.

"Fine. It can't be all that good if you're the one that cooked it though." [Young Boy]

The young boy took a bite, causing his eyes to light up.

"Hm?!" [Young Boy]

Finding that the fish suited his taste, he quickly devoured it. It was also then that he realized Lapis and The Sword King were simply watching him.

"...It was so-so." [Young Boy]

Lapis laughed.

"Then do you not want another?" [Lapis]

She waved another skewered fish before him. Although the young boy seemed like he wanted it, he restrained himself.

"I-It's not like I actually liked the food. I'm just tired of salted meat." [Young Boy]

("Holy moly. It's a tsundere! They actually exist?!") [Solace]

For those who don't know what a tsundere is, just search it up. It's really not that hard.

"Here." [Cor Sanguis]

Interrupting Lapis' teasing, The Sword King handed the young boy another cooked fish.

"I'm taking this only because it'd be a waste if someone didn't eat it." [Young Boy]

Turning away while eating it, he quietly whispered.

"...Thanks." [Young Boy]

"Hm." [Cor Sanguis]

The Sword King smiled slightly. It was very weird to see someone who always looks so depressed actually smile.

"Anyway, we should get going after this. And Vincent? Please don't try to kill anyone who annoys you again." [Lapis]

("Wait a minute. Vincent?") [Solace]

That was when it clicked.

("Master?! That's Master?!") [Solace]

I couldn't believe it. Not only was Master a little brat back then, he was a tsundere.

("But he's so calm now…") [Solace]

Scratch that. All I could remember then was Master beating the crap out of me.

("...Will he kill me if he finds out I saw his past?") [Solace]

Thinking about it sent shivers down my spine. Therefore, I promptly placed the crystal ball back where it was.

("Aight, I'm gonna head out.") [Solace]

I looked around for a way to close the hidden compartment. Tracing my hand across the shelves, I found something sticking out.

("Oh, this must be it.") [Solace]

I pressed down on a wooden plank. This made the shelves that moved aside return as if nothing ever happened.

("Hopefully Lapis doesn't notice anything.") [Solace]
