Chapter 15: 15

"How did a bloody troll get inside the castle. Aren't trolls supposed to be really dumb and live deep in the mountains. What's it doing in a school full of children?" Hermione screamed as she hid behind a pillar, trying to escape the line of sight of the troll.

"Someone must have snuck it inside. Or maybe it just wandered in here. After all, we are somewhere in the mountains." I yell back.

Turning my neck to look behind the pillar, I see a grotesque figure in grey skin walking aimlessly with a large wooden club.

While I have a lot of spells and techniques in my arsenal, I don't have enough mana to actually cast high level destructive spells.

At most, I would be able to spam a few low-grade spells for a minute. A mana heavy spell twice.

Running my mind at speeds fast than ever, I try to think of a plan.

A second later, a light bulb goes off in my mind.

'Flaws'

"Mountain Troll: A Mountain Troll is a magical beast of prodigious strength and immense stupidity. They are so synonymous with stupidity that they have a wizarding exam failing grade named after them. Trolls are grouped in the taxonomical genus Troglodytarum. Trolls possessed rudimentary magic.

Flaws: Slow speed due to immense size and low motor control.

Abysmal coordination.

Unbalanced left knee due to injury when being captured by Quirinus Quirrell.

Injured left ankle due to injury when being captured by Quirinus Quirrell…"

Soon, a list of flaws about the troll appeared in my mind. "Perfect."

"Hermione, stay back, don't make a sound and don't move. I have a plan." I tell Hermione.

"Shouldn't we wait for the professors. They should be aware that there is a troll loose in the castle."

"They should all be in the great hall. By the time they come here, the troll would have found us. Its better this way." I say as I quickly take action.

Pulling my wand from the wrist holster, I point it at the floor just in front of the troll. By analysing its gait, I predict where his left foot would land.

As soon as I point the wand, a beam of light shoots to the ground and the ground shimmers slightly.

A few more beams shoot out as the shimmering area 7 meters ahead of us expands and the whole ground shimmers brightly.

Soon, the troll was just about to step on the spot with the shimmering floor, but a noise from the opposite direction attracts its attention.

"Fuck. Don't go there." I quickly point my wand away from me and send out a strong blast of mana towards the empty corridor.

BOOM

An explosion happens down the hallway, successfully attracting the stupid troll's attention. It walks towards the sound and was just about to step on the shimmering ground.

"This is it." I mutter as I place my hands on the ground and with a grunt, push all my mana into the stone floor.

"Doton: Earth Flow Spears" I yell as the troll steps on the shimmering floor with his left foot.

Slip.

The troll slips on the slippery floor, and with a twist, starts falling with his back to the ground.

'Huh' the troll grunts in confusion as 5-meter-long spikes made of stone shoot out from below its back.

Puchi.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

With a sickening sound, the numerous earth spikes penetrate the magic resistant skin of the troll and a thunderous roar escapes from its mouth.

The sharp rock spikes go in through the back of the troll, and poke out from his stomach. A few organs were pulled out as well, but the creature was still alive and kicking.

It tried to swing its club, but the pierced shoulder stops it from doing so.

Blood pours out from the holes in its body as I push mana into the ground once again.

"Doton: Ground Shaking Technique". With heavy vibrations, the floor shakes as the tremors run towards the pierced troll. As soon as the tremors hit the area under the spikes, the spikes tremble and vibrate, pulling the troll further into them, and piercing deeper through the body of the troll.

This time, the organs fall to the ground from the numerous holes in its body and blood leaks like a river.

As the seconds pass, the screams of the trolls turn into gurgling sounds before blood pours out of its mouth and the screams stop.

"GO GO GO. Run, Hermione." With heavy breaths, I pull Hermione away from the pillar and run away.

'Damn. I'm still not powerful enough to take on a full-grown troll.' I curse myself as I lead the shell-shocked Hermione away from the scene of blood and gore.

Running away to get to our dorms, we see the students being led to safety. Sneakily joining in, we follow the crowd and stay low.

.

"Oh Merlin. How could this have happened Albus?" Minerva asks with a trembling voice as she looks at the gory sight of the troll.

"I do not know Minerva. I do not know." Dumbledore looks at the scene of blood and gore and speaks in a low voice.

Blurhh.

Some teachers that followed along with the headmaster, that hadn't seen the horrors of wars yet directly emptied their guts. All the feast of Halloween was puked on the ground.

"The troll is dead. It must not have died more than a minute ago. It still has its residual magic in its flesh and skin. It's still trying to resist these rock pillars. We could hear its screams all the way across the castle. Must have been a painful death." Snape arrived at the scene and analysed the corpse.

With his proficiency in potions, he has had a lot of experience with potions ingredients, which allowed him to accurately guess the time of death of the troll. After all, ingredients harvesters had to work quickly to get the best ingredients.

"Dumbledore, I'm taking the corpse of the troll. I hope you are fine with that." Snape announced.

"Of course, Severus. You can have it. But if you can, please check how it got inside the castle. We will have to increase our security." Dumbledore replied as he turned around and inspected the area.

"Albus, there seems to be students here not long ago. Look over there. Plates of food, a lot of them. By the window." Minerva pointed out as she approached the half-eaten plates of food.

"It seems that the students must have run away quickly when they saw the troll. They even left their food unfinished." Pomona Sprout, the herbology professor deduced.

"Indeed. But who were they? Those students might be able to tell us who took down the troll. I don't like having unknowns in my school." Albus stroked his beard as he said.

"Quite hard to tell. There are hundreds of students in the school. But most of them were inside the great hall. Asking the students would just increase the panic. I say we wait for a few days. The student body is very talkative. Gossips would eventually rise, and the students would be found." Minerva suggested.

"Great idea Minerva. We'll wait till news comes to us. Severus, Pomona, get the body of the troll away and get Filch to come and clean this up. I'll deal with these spikes." Albus orders as he grabs his wand and waves it at the ground.

Instantly, the spikes piercing the troll recede into the ground and the troll guts and organs get crushed under the weight of the creature's body.

"Get to work. We have to calm the students down. I don't want any accidents happening around the school." With an imposing tone, the headmaster flicks his colourful robe and turns around to leave, followed by the other professors.
