Chapter 11: Chapter 11

I awoke with a groan, Pain Tolerance numbed the pain by quite a bit, but I could still feel a good chunk of pain radiating from all over my body. I tried to roll over, only to find myself tucked into my bed tightly. When I snapped my eyes open, I was only met with the soft whiteness of a towel over my face. I carefully moved, pulling my arms wide and breaking the military-grade seal that I knew my mother had tucked me into with no small effort. Then, I reached up and pulled the towel off my face. I was pleasantly surprised as I looked around and found that I was in my room.

I reached up and held my head as the memories of my fight came back to me. I couldn't suppress a grin from spreading over my face as I thought about my first Black Flash. I was eager to see my new skill levels, so I quickly opened up my status and gaped at all the levels I had gained in only one fight.

My already large grin grew even larger. I tried to suppress a laugh but soon found it to be too difficult to do so. I burst out in maniacal laughter, only to cough abruptly as my mother entered the room alongside the clan head. My mother gave me a concerned look, but the clan head nodded his head in approval. He probably thought that I had noticed my improved cursed energy flow, which I had indeed noticed, by the way. I was quickly embraced in a hug as my mother ran forward.

The clan head stood back to give her some space as she held me for a bit, then he spoke, "You're good kid. Better than I would have even thought possible for someone your age," he said it with a big smile that contained the first trace of genuine warmth that I had ever seen from the man.

"You're not terrible either, for someone on death's door, that is," My mother stiffened at the blatant disrespect in my comment, but I could tell that something in the dynamic between the clan head and I had changed after our match.

True to my instincts, the man just laughed, walked forward, and ruffled my hair, "I haven't sparred like that since Satoru was about your age, but you may even be better than he was back then."

My mother seemed stunned by the genuine compliments I was being fed. She seemingly remembered the threats he had told her before she could ask any questions, so she just shrugged, grabbed the washcloth I had thrown off my face, and promised to be back soon with a new one. I waited until my mother had left the room to get right down to business with a request. I hadn't asked earlier since I thought it would take a long time for me to level my existing skills relating to cursed energy, but once I saw their massive progress, I decided to make my request.

"Can you teach me barrier techniques as well as simple domains?" I asked him directly, not wanting to beat around the bush at all.

My question seemed to have caught him off guard, but he still responded after a moment, "If I'm being honest, barrier techniques aren't my forte. However, I can teach you some simple domains," he said with a shrug.

I nodded excitedly as he spoke, excited to start learning more about jujutsu. Speaking of jujutsu, I had a thought about everything regarding my being reincarnated into this world. That led me to think about my sealed memories, which I considered to be pretty similar to a Heavenly Restriction. Then, I considered if there were any techniques in the series that had been shown to be able to bypass a heavenly restriction, and as a matter of fact, there was one that came to mind. I had come to believe that with Idle Transfiguration, I would be able to unlock the memories that had been sealed.

The only problem would be if my memories aren't sealed in my soul. However, I thought that would be very unlikely for my memories to have been removed entirely. With these thoughts racing through my mind, I wanted to immediately start working on getting my sealed memories back, but I decided that continuing with Cleave/Dismantle, for now, would be best. With that decision made, I turned my attention squarely back on the clan head, who looked like he was deep in thought as well. He absentmindedly stepped forward and used positive energy to heal me once more.

As the energy was passing between us, I decided to strain my senses and try to look at the positive energy. My attempt was fairly half-hearted, but I was surprised to see the results I got. Firstly, notifications popped like crazy as I watched the clan head's cursed energy doing... something before it turned into positive energy. I wasn't able to capture the whole thing due to being distracted by the massive influx of notifications and due to the fact that I had started truly watching too late. It was akin to the levels I got when spotting Toji in the crowd of the festival the other day.

Once the healing was over, I felt better than ever, "Let's get started with the training," I practically yelled as I hopped up from bed and made my way toward the door.

"Sure," The clan head said, snapped from his thoughts by my sudden burst of energy.

He followed me from the room and out into the front yard of the house. I turned and watched the old man leave the house. As he stepped out into the open, he made a gesture, and an instant later, a man appeared before the clan head, head bowed and ready to serve. I recognized him as one of the hidden sorcerer guards within the clan. Usually, sorcerers are too valuable to keep as mere guards, but I knew that two followed the clan head almost everywhere. My uncle said something to the guard, and he was away as quickly as he had arrived, except this time, I was able to track him, but not well.

"Short-range teleportation or invisibility, maybe even a shadow step of some sort," I said casually as the clan head walked over to join me.

I was just giving a knowing smile and a shrug in return. I could have used my technique to search for his 'technique card' and really surprise the old man, but I was too lazy to care. I was more excited to learn how to perform simple domains. Even though they were designed for weaker sorcerers to have a chance to survive against domain expansions doesn't mean they are useless. Simple domains provide breathing room for the sorcerer as well as a way to mitigate the worst of the oncoming damage. I stopped thinking and paid attention as the clan head spoke.

"I've sent for Hiro to come and explain the basics of barrier techniques. Once you have a decent understanding of barrier techniques, then I will teach you some simple domains. Not only that, but I will teach you a secret technique passed down through all the big three sorcerer families for generations," He said with a grin before walking back toward his house.

'Falling Blossom Emotion,' I thought, immediately recognizing the details of the secret technique he mentioned. 'That cheap bastard, Falling Blossom Emotion, doesn't require a barrier,' I thought angrily a moment later. That didn't change the fact that I would get to learn the technique, though, so I calmed down. Plus, I really was excited to learn about barrier techniques, literally the bedrock of jujutsu society. Luckily, it didn't take too long for my teacher, Hiro, to arrive. He looked to be in his mid-20s, with a mix of white hair and black, which signaled him as a non-pure-blooded member of the clan.

That didn't bother me, what did was the fact that he looked like he had rolled straight out of bed. However, I learned that day never to judge a book by its cover.
