Note:switched to first person for ease of writing

2 months later

'Welp' Whaaa* 'I finally got used to being a newborn, and I can finally see and hear people, Thank God, oh here comes my father with FOOD!!'

My Father said "Haha, Hello little one I bet your hungry" He leans over and picks me up from my cradle "I just got your brother to bed and your mother should be home soon" Sigh* "someday I'll take you to see our homeland" my father said, then laughing "What am I doing…" sigh* "Your only 2 months old and here I am rattling on"

'So weird and mysterious family, well check one for the origin story'

Ring----Ring----Ring

My father (whose name is still unknown to me) laid me back down in the crib and left to go grab the phone. For a moment there was total silence then I heard a crashing sound and the phone hit the floor. I could hear shuffling on the other side of the door (we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment) I could hear my father walked over and enter the room I was sharing with him and my Mother. He sat down on the foot of the bed and looked purely and utterly broken for a moment. Then he spoke softly "Your Isn't coming home to night or for a long time, she --- was arrested on way home from work" the room was silent, disturbingly so "murder they said, my Sweet Selene was a murderer"

He once again stood up and walked away looking as if the world was bearing down on him. A moment later I could her muted speaking followed by screaming then crying for over an hour.

1 year later

It had been a year since my father became a single father with my mother in the penitentiary and now my father received the call that would truly break him.

Ring-------Ring-------Ring------Ring

It was late at night almost 12 and my father was getting himself ready for bed.

He moved slowly worn down from his day, and put the phone on speaker

"Hello this is San Quentin state penitentiary" a robotic voice chimed

"We regret to inform you your spouse--Selene Stevens-- passed away earlier today, please contact us ast 123-456-7890 to make arrangements for the transport of her body"

And the phone cut off, my father fell to his knees and wept for the first and only time I had ever witnessed. He slowly stood picked up the phone and dialed

"Hello" my father spoke "this is N'Jobu, i need you to watch my children for a few days"

"Please James its Selene she's gone I need to make arrangements for her funeral" he then add "and take care of some personal business"

An hour latter Uncle James arrived and my father left

6 months later

It was late and with me not being even 2 years old I was asleep, my brother erik was across the street playing basketball as the sky darkened. I woke to inaudible yelling, then a gunshot and suddenly I was awake and aware just in time to see my father's body fall to the floor in the embrace of another man who i could only assume to be T'Chaka. My father's eyes looked towards me as they glazed over. I could see him mouth the words "I love you my sons" as his eyes closed.

I couldn't stop myself I cried and wept as I had just lost my father and been forced to watch him die. The man who held by fathers corpse slowly stood and walked towards me he was wearing a black almost latex like suit and a green sash. He slowly picked me up and said "I'm so sorry my nephew but it had to be done" carrying be he walked towards the roof. Flanked by uncle jam-- no Zuri and boarded a plane, having decided to leave my bother to fend for himself.

I was in this moment that I swore to myself I would never lose anyone again and that I would avenge those I already had. It was this vow that would shape my future for better and for worse.

As I made this vow the plane hit turbulence and the weather changed and almost as to highlight the importance of my words a bolt lighting struck the building in which my father now lie in eternal rest.
