Chapter 28: Unexpected Happenings

The dagger glimmered with a murderous light. Not really, but still…. It looked really sharp. I picked it up and could feel a slight chill coming from the dagger, causing me to look up at Delgor with a questioning gaze.

"It is imbued with ice magic. When this blade draws blood, it will slow the target a great deal making them sluggish and unable to move like they normally would. It should reduce their speed by thirty percent." Delgor replied.

This was not a bad weapon at all. If I had to get in close, I would be able to quickly disengage even if I missed up on the assassination attempt. Although I highly doubt that will happen but still. I was quite good at my job before, so I do hope I will not need to use this much. A different world with less technology but at the same time more powerful people and strange abilities. I am sure I will be faced with situations where a single shot will not do anything. "What's this weapon's name?" I could focus on it and find out on my own, but I will wait to check the true stats on these weapons later. I would rather hear from Delgor what the name is.

"Silent Night," Delgor replied with a big smile. Although it did kind of match the dagger, I think the name could have been better. "Anyway, Brat, make sure you don't knick yourself with that thing, or you will end up slowed too. I will be in contact with you about the sniper rifle. I want to get started, so the both of you can leave now."

"Delgor, what about the money?" My mother asked as she pulled out a pouch that was pretty heavy looking.

"Don't worry about it. If this weapon truly ends up being my greatest work, then I will not need money. I will contact you if I need any special materials." Delgor replied.

"Alright, then, I will leave it all up to you. If you need anything just send a message to the house. They will get whatever you need. Don't worry about the cost." My mother said with a smile. But she still placed the pouch on the table. "Use this to hire someone to watch your shop."

Delgor looked at the pouch and thought about it before nodding. "I will do that. Thanks, Martha. Be safe on the outside. I heard the forest near the eats has been restless."

"Perfect! We will head east then." My mother said happily. I had no idea what that all meant, but my guess was there would be an abundance of monsters there.

"I just said…. Forget it. You were always a battle junkie when you were younger. You love to fight." At Delgor's words, I nodded my head. My mother really did love fighting.

After saying our goodbyes, we left the slums without issue. However, when we did exit the shop, I saw many people standing around at different corners but felt no malice from them. "Mother, they are?"

"Did you think Delgor could have a shop that sold wares like this and had no protection? He is not poor, that is for sure. I only gave him the money as good faith with the notion of paying for someone to watch the shop. But in the slums, the one who knows everything and everyone here is Delgor. No one dares mess with him." I now understood. I did find it funny that he only had barriers around his items. And how he walked around like it was nothing. If someone strong wanted to rob him, they could if they were more powerful, but if they had a lot of guards, then that would mean people would need to think twice about whether or not the place was worth trying to steal from.

When we returned home. Mimi was there to greet us. But my father seemed to have had to go to the castle. "Bella! Madam! Master said that he needed Bella to go to the castle as soon as possible. There was an incident."

"What? Did he say why?" My mother asked with a wrinkled brow.

"I am not sure. He was in such a hurry he just told me to tell you to go to the castle as soon as you got back." Mimi replied. I could see Mimi was wishing she had more information.

"But why Bella? That old man better not be trying to sell off my daughter! Bella, quick, get back into the carriage. We will head to the castle now! If I hear him mention one word about your marriage, I will…." I didn't hear the rest. She began mumbling, but her eyes were burning with fury, so I am guessing that what she was saying under her breath was not good.

But she should know more than anyone that my father doted on me the most. So there is no way he would do such a thing. But even so, my mother's temper was strong, and her knee bounced up and down as we rode to the castle.

I still had my weapons equipped as we walked to the castle throne room. No one seemed to dare stop us, even though the guards looked as if they wanted to say something. But one glare from my mother and they quickly looked away.

When we stepped into the throne room, my father was speaking with my uncle, the King. When they noticed us, I saw my uncle let out a sigh of relief. My father also quickly made his way over to us.

My mother, on the other hand..... "There better be a good reason why you are calling my daughter here."

"We need Bella's skills." My father answered. He did not seem bothered by my mother's attitude.

"Why her skills? What happened?" My mother asked in a more calm tone. I guess now that she knew that I was not being used for some marriage plot, she was no longer mad.

"Princess Leslie snuck out of the castle saying she wanted to go visit Bella at the estate, but she never showed up. Her maid found her note on her desk in her room when she went to wake her to get dressed this morning. So we do not know the exact time she left or how she even got out of the castle. We have guards all over the city, but we can not search quickly enough. We wanted Bella to search the city from the air." My father explained.

"So you want me to use one of my forms to search for her." I pursed my lips before thinking for a moment and asking: "Have you searched the entirety of the castle grounds? Did any guards see her leave? I do not believe Princess Leslie can sneak past the guards. I mean, she is not the brightest bulb, and she is only five. The same age as me, a normal five year old girl. Well, I guess I am a bit of an exception when it comes to my age."

"We searched everywhere. And none of the guards have reported her leaving the grounds." The King answered.

I thought for a moment before asking: "Where is the place Princess Leslie would go to the most on the castle grounds?"

If my assumption is right. Then the place she would normally go would be a place no one would think much about. If there was a way out of the castle in that spot that she might have discovered or made on her own, then it might be how she got out and give us a better direction to search in than just randomly searching.

"I know!" I turned to see Prince Zack standing there. He was not looking at me like he was before. I guess he understood the seriousness of the situation. Maybe he does have the makings of becoming a king.

"Lead me there then." I ordered without caring for his status before turning to my father and saying: "I will have Prince Zack show me the way. I will begin my search from there."

"A few knights will go with you as well so we can fan out the search." With my father's words I nodded and followed Prince Zack to the place where Princess Leslie spent all her time.
