Chapter 2: Chapter 2
As I step inside my new father's office, I'm met with a man in his 40s sitting behind a desk reading scrolls.
"This princess greet royal father" I bend my knees as my new memories say I should and wait for approval to rise.
"Ningning, what are you doing here? Rise." My father smile a genuine smile and stand up giving me a good hug. This is unusual, to say the least. Was she this pampered by her father?
"I wanted to visit, since I woke up today. How are you father?" I like this man. he was very kind to the host, maybe to kind, but since I've read the book I also know how much he loved her.
The king's name was Wang Wu and was 35 years old. He's clean chin and almost white skin showed how beautiful he still was. In the novel he was descried as a clever man who think outside the box, but after the death of his daughter he became more and more closed off. His grief over her reminded him of his late wife and that he no longer had anything of her in this world anymore. Once the grief took place, it gave room for the queen to play.
"I was just informed, but why would you go out right after waking up? Your father needs you to be healthy!. " The king did not look pleased so I decide to rat out the queen. Sowing some discord is always needed in this kind of situation and hopefully he does not have deep feelings for the new queen.
" Um, I was informed the minute I woke up that royal mother wanted me to come over. In the end it was just to talk about your gift. "
I smile while shaking my head and sit down together with him, but his features stiffen greatly.
I hide my devious smile behind my cup as I take a sip, if he is as smart as in the novel he will catch on.
"Oh, what did you talk about?" I have to put it to him, he hides his feelings quite well, but I can still recognize his worries from the strength in his voice.
"Nothing much, she asked me if I had accepted it and when I said I would, she became .. quiet for some reason. nevermind father, let's talk about something else. How's your health? Are you letting the doctors do their work without scaring them?" Wang Ning narrow her eyes as she is angry.
The king laugh while turning his head down in thought. In his mind he was angry, but tried not to show it. She is trying to take it herself, but how would that blasted woman know what the gift was? Then it made perfect sense, she had spies close to him. What a ambitious woman, seemed like he needed to take action in the dark.
" I'm well, my body and mind are perfectly healthy. How are you? " He was trying to lure out as much information as he could from her, without her knowing. He knew she held the queen close to her for emotional reason and he knew she would not see true her little tricks, but he was happy to know this little silly daughter of his wanted the gift. Maybe she would be more clear headed and not follow blindly. The item in question was very mysterious and had been given to a female ancestor every generation over thousands of years and no male knew what it was other then when it was given the girl in question would be smarter and help the current king alot. So he really wanted to give it to her right away, before someone tried to manipulate her.
"Good, my father needs to be healthy so he can take care of our country and keep us safe." Wang Ning's words sounded very pleasing to her father, as evidence of his big smile.
"Come, come my child. Let's go find your present." Her father laughed as he guided her to a wall, pressing down a brick a pathway formed and they entered.
"Father, what is this?"
Inside are a long hall with clean surfaces with flames on the wall on both sides, giving light. As we continue to walk forward, we come to a large room filled with treasures. Boxes filled with gems, gold, jewelry and other sparkling items gives me the feeling that many of these things must have been here hundreds of years.
Wang Wu laughed when he saw her shocked and confused expression. She looked around and her big innocent eyes connected with his. "What is all this?" Her shaky voice confirming how shocked she was by all the wealth and treasures around them.
"This is my personal treasure that was given by my father and his father, going back hundreds of years. One day this will be given to my son and then he will give it to his."
Wang Wu smiled as he walked to a gorgeous table made of blue jade, and on top of it was a small white box. He lifted it carefully and walked back to me with a curious smile.
"When I was named Crown prince, my father took me to this very room and showed me everything that would be mine. He said that this box was the only exception. Inside is a ring that has been past down in generation. The current king will give this ring to one of his daughter and once the daughter dies the ring will automatically return to this box."
He open the lid slowly and inside is a beautiful antic ring with the most gorgeous blue color I have seen.
I swallow trying to grasp his meaning of this magical ring, bur fail to understand why it's important enough for the queen to try and steal it.
"This ring was found by the first emperor in this country and his words have been passed down true generations. 'Only a female heiress can wear this ring and she will be granted a gift that will follow her to her death.' Many girls have been given extrordinery gifts, but no one knows what will be given. This is one of our secret heritage, but the queen are aware that the girls who wear it will become extrordinery. Remember to be vigilant and don't trust her so easily as you have done in the past." His voice show how careful he is with his words, scared I might get angry or protective of her.
I smile, feeling loved for maybe the first time in both my life's "Don't worry, I don't trust her anymore. It was very obvious that she wanted this ring and not worried about me" His relived smile makes me laugh, thankful to have a father who cares of me in this new life.
Once one our way back to my palace I start to go true what he said. That once I put on this ring, no one can take it from me. That makes me relived I don't have to worry about the queen's little schemes.
Inside his secret chamber we stared at the bright light that enveloped me as the ring sit on my finger. The warm light feels very comfortable until it shrink and is swallowed by the ring. Wang Wu laugh as he pat my hand "Now you sleep and tomorrow, your gift will present it self."
I can't help looking at the gorgeous ring and wonder what kind of gift I will get. This ring was not part of the novel, but I can guess what happened. The queen got her biological daughter to wear the ring and that's why she was so successful in her life. She married a handsome prince from a different country and eventually became the queen.
Well seems like things will change from now on.
