Chapter 4: Thread 1: New Fate(end)

I finally arrive at the school. "FINALLY!!! That took WAY too long!", I exclaim to myself as relief washes over me. I take a quick look around and see that there are still some students headed towards the ceremony. I do a little fist pump "Yes" gesture, celebrating that I wasn't late on my first day. I walk through the gate of the school, finally breathing normally after all of the running and near death experiences I had thus far, and head to the ceremony, which is on the other side of the school at the auditorium.

As I'm walking, I take in the scenery of the school campus. There were flowers on the side of the pathway, a beautiful fountain that had a statue of a goddess with a weaving tool. Which I kind of found a bit ironic. I also saw a field, were I assume sports are played or festivals are held. All of it left me in awe as I admired everything around me.

When I got to about halfway to the auditorium, I see a girl with red hair and an open umbrella just...standing at the front gate threshold of the school, starring at the divide where the sidewalk ends and the school path begins. I slow down to a stop, confused as to why she's just standing there, starring at the ground. "Okay. That's unusual.", I say in a curious but cautious manner. I start to walk away, but I get another idea to start a good reputation for myself on the first day again. 'If I find out what's wrong and help her, she'll be grateful to me. And if she makes friends and we see each other again, she'll tell them how helpful I was. I won't be seen as a delinquent, even though I look like one because of my appearance.' "Perfect!", I say to myself as I begin to put my plan into action. But this time, I'll make sure that no accidents occur.

I start to walk over to the girl, who has yet to look up, and prepare myself for whatever her problem might be. I stand in front of her, about a good meter (3 ft) away, and say "Hey. Are you alright?", in a friendly yet concerned voice. I examine her to see if there's anything wrong physically, but the only thing I can see wrong is that she doesn't have her tie on. She still hasn't looked up yet, astoundingly. She said "I can't go past here.", in a calm yet blunt tone, expressionless. "Why not?", I asked. "Because I'm not allowed to.", she says in the same way, still expressionless. A bit confused, I continue to ask questions. "Why aren't you allowed?", I ask. "I don't have permission to enter.", she answers in the same manner. I look at her pale skin, then at the umbrella, then I look up at the cloudless sky, and finally back down to her while thinking of the answer the gave me. I connect all the dots and notice that all the evidence points to her being a vampire, but that's utterly ridiculous, so I look for a different answer.

I remember that she doesn't have her tie on, so I ask her, "Is the reason you aren't allowed past that point because you don't have your tie on?", in a "slightly annoyed that this might be the answer" kinda way. The girl just nods. At this moment, I'm completely floored at how stupid this is situation is, and decided that I've had enough. "Ahhh, fuck it!", I say as I grab her hand and pull her over the threshold. Her face goes from expressionless to expressionless but surprised, as her feet land on the schools' property. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that she's Chinese.

We stand there for a few seconds, still holding hands, but at this point I don't care. "We need to get to the auditorium before the entrance ceremony starts.", I say in a calm tone but with conviction. The girl still hasn't looked up at me but now she's starring at our hands holding each others'. "I broken the school dress code.", she said in a trembling voice as if she's gonna cry. Not wanting to see that, I rack my brain to try and think of something to say to calm her down, "Sometimes, you're gonna have to break some rules to get things done. I mean look at me, I don't have my bag with me, so I'm breaking the rules too. But, I'm still here because I have to be.", I say as calm as I can to keep her from crying.

After a few more seconds, I feel her grip on my hand tighten a bit. Not in an aggressive way, but as if she'd finally calmed down. She gives an affirmative nod and says, "Okay.". "Alright. Well, see you in school.", I begin to walk away. As I turn away, I noticed that her grip on my hand didn't change, like she wanted to keep holding my hand. I was probably reading too much into it, so I gently pull my hand back and walk to the auditorium.

After I disappear from her sight, the girl stands there, still remembering the sensation of my hand on hers. She brings her hand to her face and runs it down her cheek. "What a beautiful contrast of color. It was like Yin and Yang.", she said to herself, remembering my dark skin tone. "It's definitely the color of a rebellious soul. The complete opposite of mine. We have to meet again.", she said as she starts towards the auditorium.

Now, at this point, I've finally made it to the entrance ceremony just as they told the students to take their seats. Which was a breath of relief for me. Because I had too many speed bumps on my way here and that was stressful. But I take my seat, relax, and the ceremony begins. The principal, Mrs. Tanazaki, walks up to the podium on the stage and welcomes us to her prestigious school and congratulated us on passing the entrance exam.

She had short dark hair with brown eyes and a serious demeanor with an air about her that made her seem like a drill sergeant. It was pretty intimidating. She goes on to explain the rules of the school as well as the expectations she has for every student, which was to be expected. She also said that there is an area of the island that non-students live that was off-limits, unless we had evidence of an invitation or was given permission from school authority, which was also reasonable. She continues to explain everything we need to know, from the school facilities to the residential shopping areas on the island.

Everything said up to now was well received. But, now things started to go off the rails with what happened next. Mrs. Tanazaki said, "Now that we got that information out of the way. Some of you might be wondering about your dorm arrangements and who's going to be in the room with you.". Some of the students start to talk amongst themselves for a few seconds until she started to talk again. "At this Academy, we have a certain tradition when it comes to placing our students in dorms.", she says calmly as she looks over the room. Mrs. Tanazaki gives a half smile, "Did it ever come off as strange that we let students sit in any seat, instead of separating you by gender?". The students look confused as she continues. "You sat where you are without any real thought as to "why" you chose that seat out of all the others around you. You didn't doubt for a second that you sat in the wrong seat, right?", she said while raising an eyebrow with a slightly smug look. I'm sitting here, trying to figure out what she's trying to say to us. To be honest, I half expect her to say that there's someone eles' name on the chair that we're all each sitting in.

But what happened next caught everyone off guard. "I would like for each of you to reach under your seats and feel for a small pouch. Take it out.", she orders. We all do as she says and sure enough, each of us pulled a pouch from the seat. I looked around to see everyone elses' pouches and saw that they were all different colors. From white to rainbow, everyone had thier own, but the most common colors were blue and pink from what I can tell. I had a black pouch, which I felt was either ridiculously ironic or just a set up for something stupid. Mrs. Tanazaki added that we can trade our pouches with anyone who was willing, but we only had three minutes to do so. Most guys who got pink pouches traded them with girls who wanted them but the few that didn't "swung for the other team" so nobody made a fuss. I decided to keep mine.

After the time passed and everything calmed down again, Mrs. Tanazaki told us to group up with the people with the same pouch as us because one of each colored pouch had a map inside that will lead to the corresponding dorm.

Everyone's jaw dropped at this news. There were around 5,000 students in the auditorium that a person would have to search through in order to find the one person with a map to there dorm and none of us knows how many of one color there is. Mrs. Tanazaki says with a that half smile, "I almost forgot, you only have two hours to find your dorms. If you don't find it by then, we'll change the door locks so you won't get in until you pay for the new key. Good luck.".

Everyone goes ballistic, scattering around to find people with like-colored pouches. As expected, people with blue and pink pouches have it easy. So I can assume that those colors are for the common dorms for each gender. I looked in my pouch, hoping that I had the map, but the only thing I had were two skeleton keys. So this meant that there was at least in other person with a black pouch that I had to find, which wasn't all that comforting. I started looking for the other black pouch but the only dark colors I keep running into are brown and navy blue. After about 15 minutes of this. I've had enough. This running around wasn't getting me anywhere. I had to try and let the other person know where I was, but all of the good vantage spots were taken, and it's too difficult to seach person to person. Then, I got an idea.

Even though I'm pretty tall, there is still a chance that the other person can't see me, but there's nothing stopping them from "hearing" me. Unless they're deaf, that would be unfortunate. So, I run to a nearby corner of the room, facing it. My idea was to use the corner to amplify my voice so everyone can hear it, including the one(s) I'm looking for. I take a breath out, a deep breath in, and then shout as loud as I can, "TO ANYONE THAT HAS A BLACK POUCH. MEET ME OUTSIDE THE AUDITORIUM AT THE LEFT SIDE DOOR!!!!", my voice reverberating throughout the auditorium like a thunder clap. My ears somewhat ringing.

After I make my location known to the one I'm trying to find, I immediately head outside to wait for whoever responds. I get outside and look around, "Seems like I'm the first one here.", I say to myself. I walk a few steps away from the doors and turn to face them, waiting for whoever shows up. After about another two minutes of waiting, the doors open, and out steps three people I never expected to see again so soon. It was the three girls I helped along my way here.

The girls all noticed me at once, "Hey! It's you again!", they said in unison and surprise, as well as surprising each other with their response. When I saw this, I was dumbfounded. I couldn't even say a word with how crazy of a coincidence this is. I looked at all of their pouches and to my expectations (and slight surprise), they all had a black pouch. 'What kind of asshole comes up with the situation? It's like an obvious sequence of events leading to a predictable outcome. WHOEVER WROTE THIS IS AN AMATEUR!!!', I thought to myself for some reason, I don't know why but it just felt right. Remembering all the events that happened up until now, I was only able to say two words, "What's next?".
