Chapter 164: Theapan Temple (Part 6)

The Following Day..

Vorbuk chewed on a piece of cooked meat one at a time as Daryl kept handing food in his direction. When he wasn't feeding the wolf he would pass food to the tiger, Chase, as well. In front of where they sat they watched Prince Leo train. Against the odds the wolf at realized that Ashley had decided to train the prince personally during their free time.

Clang! Clang!

The sounds of the weapons striking against each other was loud.

Prince Leo was working hard to grow stronger because he did not want to be left behind. He wanted to stand on equal ground with those around him. No he wanted to be able to do more for them. Vampires were fast and could even be considered brutal in battle. Training with Ashley would clearly help him gain more experience to benefit him in the future.

Pat. Pat.

Vorbuk could feel Daryl's hand lightly patting against his head. His ears pinning back as he watched the two of them against each other. Determined to get stronger the prince decided the vampire would be a good choice to aid him in training.

"I think he's helping his highness train for your sake." Daryl spoke quietly to the wolf beside him. It was the first time the wolf had allowed him to pet the wolf. Probably because his mind was focused on the match between the others.

Flick.

The wolf's ear flicked in response to Daryl's words. Not being able to understand what the wolf wanted to say the man could only say what he wanted. Small reactions that showed the wolf was listening made him feel a bit less like he was talking to himself. Knowing the wolf could understand him was not enough to make him feel less awkward when the wolf could not say a word back to him personally in this form.

"Since his freedom depends on your survival he probably thinks it's better if the prince was able to do more himself without relying on others as much." Daryl sighed and passed the wolf the last piece of cooked meat.

"Vorbuk," Daryl said with a pause. "I know you are different from average beasts but you must never forget that there will always be those who look at you for nothing more then what they want to see. You will always have someone who wants to use you. They may even look friendly on the outside at first."

I understand what your saying, Daryl, but your wrong as well.

Even mortals will use each other for their own greed. Anyone can be betrayed at any point by someone they least expect. That is simply a part of life. Another aspect of what we call life.

"What nonsense are you feeding the mutt?" Bredret who was pretending to nap on a stone wall nearby grumbled downward at Daryl.

"It's simple understanding for his situation. Given that he is a companion there will always be people trying to take advantage of him." Daryl staked his reasons.

"It's common sense that people will want to take advantage of him.. Do you think that's any different from how I grew up? He doesn't need reminded. It will only make him worry more in the future if you do that." Bredret closed his eyes again with a grumble.

Daryl was listening to the dragon grumbling. His voice was harsh and sarcastic as if he did not care about what he was saying himself. Underneath that sarcastic surface Daryl was aware that the dragon was showing that he cared while trying to go unnoticed.

"Similar to you?" Daryl paused as if he was thinking about something before continuing his thought out loud. "Now I really worry about the wolf's future."

"Do you want me to roast you?" Bredret's eyes flashed as a low growl escaped his throat.

"You wouldn't do that." Daryl stated simply. He knew the dragon too well to know that he was not that reckless to do something he would regret so badly. The dragon hated doing things that could cause him such a heavy impact of guilt. There had always been so much guilt built up inside him in over the years that he didn't want more of it.

"Do you want to bet?" Bredret was feeling very annoyed.

"I don't need to bet. You wouldn't do anything to me even if you really were angry." Daryl felt like giving up on the conversation.

If he wanted to keep asking him to give a reason though he could easily think of reasons for the dragon to avoid killing him. There was a big one right on the top of the list that he could easily give Bredret. The dragon did not like to do manual labor for others which only added on weight to the reason that he could give him.

"Why? Why wouldn't I?" Bredret's annoyance became mixed with confusion. He wasn't sure why Daryl was so certain that he wouldn't do anything. Was it some sort of blind faith in friendship? What was this childish nonsense?

"Did you forget?" Daryl glanced in his direction. "I pay for your drinks. If you killed me you would have to get a job and pay for them yourself."

"Fuck! You heartless bastard!" Bredret shouted as he burst to his feet and stormed off. His action causing both Chase and Zoe's hair to stand on end in surprise.

As Bredret left the dragon managed to leave a fist sized hole in the side of a tree. Leaves falling from the tree's branches from the vibration of the strike he had made on it.

I'm not sure if I should feel sorry for Bredret or the tree at this point.. Vorbuk thought to himself as he watched the dragon vanish from his sight. He was not sure how he ended up knowing such strange people after coming to this world. It made him want to question his own sanity when he witnessed such scenes.

"I think that was a bit much.." Zoe whispered to herself causing Daryl to cough out of guilt. It was difficult to tell if she meant him or Bredret.

Ah, that familiar sunrise hair. Vorbuk caught a glimpse of Priestess Mai walking in the distance towards the temple.

Standing up the wolf trotted off in the direction of the priestess. Daryl watched as he left however the others were busy and didn't. He followed the priestess into the temple. Down the hallways she stopped at a large double door.

Opening the door she entered the room. The wolf was easily able to slip in the gap in the door she left behind. Was she aware or not that the wolf was following her? Vorbuk could not tell.

Watching her from a distance as she browsed the large amount of books in the room. From a glance he could assume they were in the temple's library. Many books looked ancient or simply old. The room was spotless clean and well aired with large windows. The sunlight that shone in the room during the day could easily be used alone to read so the room did not require lighting during the day.
