Chapter 8: Atop the Ivory Peak

The wind whistled by Rohann as he flew northwards. His red eyes glowed in the darkness of the night as he fixed his gaze to where his destination would be. His appearance retained a sense of elegance despite flying faster than the speed of sound.

Eventually, a large mountain appeared in his line of sight. The mountain was so tall that it seemed to have reached the clouds. No trees grew at its peak since it was made of some kind of white rocks. This is where the name Ivory Peak came from.

Rohann flew up the peak and landed at the flat ground at the very top of the mountain. There amidst the white surroundings laid the black dragon Yurem. He seemed to be sleeping when Rohann got there.

Sensing Rohann's presence, Yurem opened his eyes and looked behind him to see his friend standing there.

"Ahh. There you are. It seems I fell asleep while waiting. The air and ambiance of this place is very comforting indeed." Yurem said as he transformed into his human form and stretched his body.

"Zorenn isn't here yet? Looks like we're early." Rohann said as he looked around to find Zorenn, only to find no one. Him and Yurem were the first ones here.

"She did say we shall meet an hour later. I believe it won't be long now before she gets here." Yurem said.

As if on queue, the sound of wind breaking was heard a distance away. Rohann and Yurem Looked towards the sound to see the flying figure of Zorenn who was coming closer to them.

Zorenn landed in the middle of the flat open ground of Ivory Peak. Despite going neck breaking speeds, her landing was very smooth and she didn't need to slow down unlike Rohann.

"Hey! You're early! That's good. Now please stand back since I need to prepare the magic circle and everything else." Zorenn instructed the two as she took out something that looked like blue chalk out of her storage ring.

Rohann and Yurem followed her instructions since she was the creator of this project. Seeing them back away, Zorenn walked to somewhere she deemed appropriate before throwing out the blue chalk. The chalk she glowed blue in midair and started scribbling on the ground by itself.

Seeing Zorenn relatively free, Yurem asked a question that was bothering him. "May I ask why my presence here is needed? Am I vital for this project to succeed?"

Zorenn turned her gaze to the dragon in his human form and answered, "Well, you're our friend. I figured you would want to see this. It'll be a vital part of our history, after all. With this, we can live as long as you do!"

The dragon smiled when he realized the meaning of what Zorenn said. Dragons had a very long lifespan. Even if Rohann and Zorenn were the strongest humans alive, they were still humans. He knew that deep down, he will eventually have to get used to not having Rohann and Zorenn with him anymore. With this insanely groundbreaking project Zorenn made, he realized that these two friends of his can finally accompany him in his painfully long life.

"Also, you're an extra layer of protection. I just feel safe knowing that the strongest dragon will be here with us. No one can interfere with us when you're here!" Zorenn added with a cheeky grin. Rohann and Yurem chuckled.

"True. I'm glad you're with us, Yurem." Rohann supported what Zorenn said as he patted Yurem's shoulder.

"Ahh. You two are teaming up on poor me, I see. Oh well, there's nothing I can do. Looks like you both are stuck with me as your guard." Yurem humored both of them.

"Hehe, I knew I could count on you." Zorenn said. "Also, if something indeed goes wrong with the process of the project, you can just break the magic circle. One clean swipe on any of the lines will be enough. Only do this when the blue magic circle turns red, alright?"

"I hear you. You can count on me." Yurem replied with a resolute tone in his voice. He really wants this project to succeed.

Just after Yurem spoke, the magic circle was done. The entirety of the blue flying chalk was used in its creation. A magic circle that contains patterns and shapes in an orderly manner inside its potentially infinite sides can be seen glowing blue. Zorenn was satisfied with this.

"Hey, Hann. Get over here in this other circle. Don't break the chalkline. Fly over and stand still here." Zorenn instructed Rohann as she gestured to the blank circle beside her.

Rohann listened and flew over to the circle beside Zorenn. Once he was in position, Zorenn waved her hand and two glass containers were suddenly placed at the center of the magic circle.

The glass containers were huge cylindrical instruments that can undoubtedly hold an adult human inside. The top and middle part were made of glass. If one looks closely, some patterns that were similar to the magic circle on the ground can be found etched on the glass.

The bottom part was made of a black metal that was similar to the material of Rohann's weapon: Morh Vius.

Rohann saw this and asked Zorenn. "Renn? Is that… Abyss Mythril?"

"Hmm? I'm surprised you noticed! Has the 'oh I hate studying' guy finally decided to study something other than weapons?" Zorenn responded to Rohann teasingly.

"Of course I would notice! I know what my weapon looks like. That right there looks like it…" Rohann scoffed before he trailed off as if he realized something. "This project is… incredibly expensive."

"Yes… it is." Zorenn sighed in response. "But the rewards are worth it!"

"Listen, since you're not really old and frail looking, I programmed your new body's appearance to be exactly what you are right now, alright?" Zorenn informed Rohann. "It'll only be the outward appearance though."

"So that's why you asked for strands of my hair the other day. Sure, I have no issues with that." Rohann appreciated Zorenn's initiative and thoughtfulness. "But, what else will my new body have?"

"Something that will hopefully make you actually sit down and read. I opened up the arcane pores on your new body. Your body right now is blessed with mana, but you can't use it because your body is not designed to bring mana outside and influence anything besides its original pathway. After this, you can also start learning magic. The magical capability of your new body is closely replicated from mine." Zorenn said.

"So… I can be a wizard as powerful as you?" Rohann asked with excitement.

"Yes, you can. If you're willing to slog through books and study magic." Zorenn teased with a sneer. Rohann had a reputation of hating studying as a child. "But lucky for you, you're friends with the Supreme Sorciere. I can find time to teach you all you need to know."

"Hehe, thanks Renn. But what about you? What will your new body be?"

"Hehehehe. I'll be a man in my new body. A carefully designed figure of a true lady killer. That'll be my new appearance." Zorenn answered Rohann's question with a sick grin.

"You sure about that? What will the people say when they find out the Supreme Sorciere is an entirely different person from who they knew?" Rohann asked.

"You forget I'm a wizard, Hann. I can do many things. Creating an illusion is one of them. By day, I can be Zorenn the Supreme Sorciere. By night, I will be… Rennzo, the most dashing man in the world!"

"Pfft! Seriously? Rennzo? You're still incredibly shit at naming, I see."

"Shut up! I named this project good, right? Jeez."

Yurem laughed at seeing Rohann and Zorenn bicker. This scene reminded him of the battle twenty years ago where he first met these two humans.

"It seems some things never change. I'm glad to see that you two can still be like rambunctious children despite your age." Yurem said.

"Ha! Age? That will soon be a concept we might as well forget. We can live forever if we want to with this painfully complex magical ritual I made." Zorenn proudly huffed.

"Living forever, huh?..." Rohann muttered to himself.

"Anyway, the preparations are complete!" Zorenn announced before turning her gaze to Rohann. "You ready?"

"Yeah. Always." Rohann answered with a confident grin. He's seen how cautious and serious Zorenn was with this project. With the amount of security and failsafes she made sure to implement, Rohann felt safe.

"Alright. It's time." Zorenn said before turning silent as if she was thinking of something. "Don't worry, Hann. You'll go back to your children better than before."

"HAHAHA! You don't have to worry about me, Renn. I trust you." Rohann assured Zorenn before looking up at the clear and starry night sky. "It's just… it started sinking in. The fact that we're about to do something that will be greater than anything we've accomplished so far."

"Huh? The fuck you talking about? I'm the one who made this project."

"I KNOW! Eugh, you know what I mean!"

"HAHAHAHA! I know. I'm just lightening you up, Hann. Being serious doesn't suit you~"

After another short bickering session, the blue magic circle on the ground shone brightly in a blue light. Zorenn's eyes glowed blue along with the magic circle. Power radiated atop the Ivory Peak as Zorenn began the ritual that took twenty years to create.
