Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Aiden was a regular college kid that was into movies and anime, when one night after finishing an essay for school he decided to go to a local all-night pizza place to grab some food before going to bed. But on his way to the restaurant, he hears screaming from down the road and plumes of smoke going high into the air.
When he got there to see what was going on he saw an apartment building on fire and a woman being held back by some people screaming in a police officer's face.
"PLEASE MY SON IS IN THERE, HE'S ON THE THIRD FLOOR PLEASE HELP HIM!!!"
Before even realizing what was happening Aiden could feel the air around him get hotter as his body started to run into the burning building before he even got a chance to think.
While running through the smoke-filled building he sees another door that looks like a back entrance into the building that's already completely inaccessible due to the collapsed doorway heading for the third floor all he can think is
"Why, Why am I doing this?"
Aiden gets to the third floor and begins to yell through the coughs caused by the smoke that's slowly filling his lungs making his chest burn in a way that no one should ever experience.
"HELLO?"
"IS ANYONE THERE?"
Aiden hears a distant and weak.
"Here"
Aiden makes his way to the voice which sounds like it's from behind a door Labeled twelve. He opens the door and is met with the full heat of the fire that has all but consumed this apartment. But he can still hear the voice deep in the apartment saying.
"Please help, I can't breathe"
So he puts his head down, covers his mouth and nose with his sleeve, and enters the apartment while trying his best not to inhale too much smoke or get too burned. Aiden makes his way to the voice before he's met with what appears to be a bedroom door. Aiden can hear from the other side.
"The door, it won't open"
Aiden tries to open it but it won't budge, so he yells.
"Get back"
As he begins to ram his shoulder into the door trying to break the door down, It takes him three tries before the door flies open. When the door opens He sees a young boy around eight years old laying on the ground crying through his coughs. lungs are more than likely filled with smoke. Aiden quickly shakes himself out of his thoughts and goes to the kid and asks.
"what's your name kid?"
"Cole"
The kid says still crying and coughing.
"Alright Cole I'm gonna get you out of here but I need your help alright?"
Cole nods as Aiden rips off one of his sleeves and begins to tie it around Cole's head to make a makeshift mask to keep as much smoke out of his lungs as he can.
"I'm gonna pick you up and I just need you to hold on tight okay?"
Cole nods again right before Aiden picks him up while keeping Cole's head tucked into his chest. Aiden begins to make his way out of the apartment and down the stairs and towards the entrance of the building but right before he reaches the door the wall collapses covering the majority of the door. seeing this Aiden runs to the small opening in the door and yells out for help.
"HEY, WE NEED HELP HERE!"
As Aiden is yelling he sees one of the cops run over.
"sir we need to get you out of there"
"First take the kid"
Aiden says before as quickly and carefully as possible he hands the kid over to the cop. Then right after the cop takes the kid the rest of the wall collapses covering the door completely, At this moment all the smoke, heat, and exhaustion catches up to Aiden and he slowly collapses onto the ground and the last thing he hears before he passes out is sirens.
