Chapter 3: Choices

Sofia wraps her arms around her again, tears spilling down her face as she rocks her screaming friend to and fro. She had no idea what to do to make this better for her, so instead she hushes her as she waits for her to calm down. Nurse Mohala however, quickly gives her an injection of a sedative. The last injection she had, she was too worked up and her body was too weak to stay awake, causing her to pass out on her own. This time, it slowly rushed through her to ease her nerves. "Everything's going to be ok Finnie, you'll see…" She murmurs, though she herself doesn't feel so confident as she wasn't sure what could be done.

Delfina feels herself drift slightly, feeling numb again. She couldn't recall her legs getting injured, but she also fainted rather quickly. That being said, she suddenly realized another question she hadn't asked yet, her mind strangely switching gears at breakneck speeds. "What about the party? I hope it was a terrific one."

Sofia feels her brow instantly crinkle with confused apprehension. Nurse Mohala continues to study Delfina, a knowing look on his face as he does so. "Ummm, it was gorgeous honestly. But we barely noticed the festivities since we noticed you hadn't arrived by the time all of us had. We started checking around and learned what happened." Sofia replies, feeling bitterness as she recounts the memory. In her opinion, it had taken far too long!

Delfina nods her head slowly as she finally feels like her breathing has calmed. She tilts her head and looks at Nurse Mohala with a weak smile. "I think I'm hungry now…"

Mohala nods his head and stands quickly. "Ok, no problem. I'll get you some soup in just a moment." He leaves the room with exchanges of gratitude.

"Are all of these flowers from you?" Delfina asks Sofia as she looks around the room again, noting the many bouquets of flowers on almost every surface.

"Only about three are mine, I've been changing mine out." Sofia replies sheepishly. She continues when she sees Delfina looking at them baffledly. "Ena and Jeremias both visit often too, so I think some is from them. I can't speak for all of them though, I haven't really looked at them all." She trails off as she curiously looks around at the flowers as well.

"Your meal has arrived!" Mohala announces as he comes in, a tray in his hands as he successfully breaks their attention. He places the tray down on a table that was rolled to her so she can comfortably eat while resting. They idly chat as she eats, but soon she finds herself tired once again.

"I've texted Ena and Jeremias, we'll come visit after work tomorrow if you'd like?" Sofia mentions as she readies to leave for the night.

"Yes, please do!" Delfina replies with a grin that turned into a yawn. She waves as Sofia leaves, then thanks Mohala as he helps her get more comfortable.

"You are most welcome Delfina.' He replies with a small smile. He looks at her for a moment before continuing. 'I have to warn you though, tomorrow might be an exhausting time for you. Remember to take it easy and let us know right away if you're getting overwhelmed at any moment, ok?" He asks, waiting for her to nod before he goes on. "You''l be seen by Doctor Beyaz Sarica first thing in the morning. We'll introduce you to a couple of other doctors that will be helping you and your quality of life in the future. If everything goes well, and you're up to it, there's some people that would like to meet you."

Delfina blinks at that, trying to think who would bother besides her friends. "Who wants to meet me? I can only think of Sofia, Ena and Jeremias…" She mutters, mostly to herself.

"Kenwyn Teague will be formally introduced I believe. Kaphiri Seif and Vahid Nazeri have both been rather concerned about you and are your fellow accident victims. I recall some of the knights would like to ask you a few questions about the accident as well." He pauses to scratch his chin in thought. "Also, I do believe the King of Hookgold may wish to see you as well."

Delfina's eyes grew as he spoke, feeling more so confused than ever. "The King? Why?" She stammers, feeling some of her drowsiness flee her.

Mohala chuckles at her reaction and pats her head. "Nothing but good I'm sure. Try to get some rest though and not stress about it, they can wait until you're ready to deal with them anyways." He states with a shrug as he leaves.

Delfina feels herself become exhausted once more just trying to mull over everything. With a release of air, she mutters "What have I gotten myself into?!..." to herself as her eyes close.

**********************************************

Delfina feels her nerves rattle as a group of people stand before her. Mohala and two female nurses helped to move her into a wheelchair, then aided her in getting ready for the day before wheeling her to this large exam room. She assumed that the room was chosen simply to be able to fit in so many bodies. It was just her, her main doctor, Doctor Beyaz, and the nurses. Beyaz had reiterated some of what Mohala had told her, but went into more depth as to a lot of the details. Like how she suffered some brain injuries and may still have some side effects but seemed promising so far.

"Delfina, these doctors are part of your specialized team in managing your health. Doctor Zophar Traverse will be helping with your rehabilitation and physical therapy." Beyaz states as she motions to a man with a friendly smile and demeanor, who nodded in reply. "Doctor Vítor Sisto will be helping with your prosthetic and anything to deal with that." She adds as she motions to another doctor who gave her a warm smile but appears more analytical. "And last but not least, this is Doctor Melchora Sisto. She will be your psychiatrist." She ends as she motions to a woman that resembles Vitor quite a bit. Delfina was willing to place money that the two are twins.

"Ummm, hi…" Delfina replies awkwardly as she rubs her arm. She was still wrapping her mind around all of this, and having so many greet her was uncomfortable. However, knowing all in the room are actually working together as a group to help her grounded and eased her anxiety a bit. She can feel her pace slow a bit as she looks at the different people before her.

"Hello Delfina, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." Doctor Melchora replies warmly as she smiles reassuringly. She had a slight no nonsense feel about her, but was also very warm.

"Hi Delfina, I look forward to working with you." Doctor Zophar says with a lopsided grin, a playful glint in his eyes that she was certain was a constant feature even though she just met him. "Jena Rayna Macawili Roxas here is a nurse from my department and will be helping us." He adds causing Jena to flush and scowl at him using her full name.

"Hello Delfina, I promise we'll do everything we can to make life as easy and comfortable as possible." Doctor Vitor states in a way that makes you truly believe him. "I believe you've met Akako Miyashiro, she's a nurse in my field and will be assisting us from now on." He glances at Akako before turning back to her. Akako stands a bit more proudly as she gives her a smile.

"And Mohala is with my field, all of us will be working together with a few others to assist you in having your life as close to normal as possible." Beyaz states, seeming to slide into a change of pace. "Do you mind if we assess your injuries now?"

Immediately Delfina feels her blush return as she wasn't sure what all that entailed but looking at these attractive doctors wearing time period garb that makes her wet dreams come true, she feels suddenly shy. "I..I suppose…" She murmurs as she averts her gaze.

Beyaz softens a bit and approaches her seated on the exam bed. "Don't worry, we're just checking on the healing progress as it's important for any plans we can make for your recovery." She only nods for the other two doctors to move forward after Delfina gives her a wavy smile and agrees to it. To their credit, they were very quick and professional with assessing her. They checked and measured her leg, asked questions respectfully as their nurses wrote down notes. It wasn't just the amputation they checked on though, her other injuries were all checked on and notes were taken for. When everything was done, they all share a grin as they look at her. "You're healing beautifully and we're not seeing any complications at this moment. I'd like to keep you here for a few more days and start your physical therapy tomorrow. Are you ok with that?" Beyaz asks as she waits for a reply.

"Ummm…" Delfina trails off as she blinks in surprise. She hadn't considered returning home or anything of the sort at the moment, but it made sense to. Except, what would she be returning to? How was she to navigate this strange world?

"It's ok to not answer now, there's no rush in you leaving. However, the physical therapy the earlier we start the rehabilitation the easier and better it will be for you." Zophar adds in, giving her a reassuring smile. "Either way, there's no pressure at this moment and we can discuss this again later." She slowly returns his smile as she nods her head.

"Alright, it's my turn to chat with the patient, so all of you out." Melchora states in a friendly manner but somehow still held the aura to dare them to argue. They all acknowledge this and bid their farewells, then evacuate the room leaving the two women alone. Melchora smile at her as she takes a comfortable seat and places a file on her lap with a pen in one hand. "Let's start with how do you like your new room?"

*************************************************************

Delfina was surprised by realizing the larger room was to be hers until she leave the facility. She also discovered that the facility was ran by Hookgold and was one of the best in the lands. The conversation she had with Doctor Melchora had explained and eased much of her worries and helped her to relax quite a bit.

All of this of course was taken to a crashing halt as soon after having lunch and all of her stuff moved to the new room, she was summoned to speak with the King. Now, she was seated in her wheelchair before him. He is seated comfortably behind a desk with two men, one on either side of him, that looked vaguely similar to him. The imposing trio stare at her with different domineering gazes that causes her to swallow cautiously. The King smiles at her widely as his eyes shone with interest and care. The male to his left had a face of disgruntled curiosity. The other man wore a smiling mask that barely gave away his irritated curiosity. As handsome as the trio was, her nerves ran far faster than any other thoughts.

"Ms. Delfina Le Carvennec, thank you very much for joining us this afternoon." The King states as he leans forwards in his seat slightly, looking her over as if she was a prize of some sort. "I am Alvar Keskkula, and these are Bohumil," He gestures to the one on his right. "and Valentin." He motions to the man to his left. After a second with nothing said, he frowns in annoyance before snapping at them "Greet her."

"Hello Ms. Delfina." Bohumil greets her cooly as he stares at her through hardened eyes.

"Hi." Was the short mumbled reply from Valentin who didn't bother to look at her at all.

"Umm, hi?" She replies, feeling unsure of herself and why they were in such a nasty mood.

Alvar heaves a sigh in exasperation at this, rolling his eyes at them before giving her a half smile. "I apologize for my sons' behavior at the moment. It's my fault, but I also thought I raised them better." He tells her, then gives a slight shrug in a what can one do? kind of way. "Now, to the reason why you're here." He looks her dead in the eyes to deliver the most bizarre comment she's heard in her life.

"I need you to choose between my two sons."
