Chapter 11: Chapter 11

(Robin's Point of View)

When Leo asked my sister and I to watch over him, I was confused.

What did he mean that he was going to choose a class? And it was going to take time and he may possibly lose consciousness?

This is all happening so fast that I don't quite understand what is actually happening.

One minute their is a voice inside my head telling me that the world is going to end, then I'm being kidnapped along with my sister and dragged out into the middle of the desert by my sisters crazy ex boyfriend.

And then we meet this man around my age who has a seemingly endless skillset that fits perfectly into the situation we now find ourselves.

At first, I thought he was quite scary, but after spending some time with him I can tell he isn't actually all that bad of a guy and is just putting up a rough exterior to keep my sister and I at a distance.

I wonder what his life has been like for him to be the way he is..

"Robin, are you listening?"

Oops, I got lost in my thoughts and didn't realize that Amber and Leo had been discussing something this entire time.

"I'm sorry, I was thinking about something. What were you saying?" I asked embarrassed.

Leo, clearly displeased with my spacing out let out a deep sigh, "The process shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes. Amber says you two have never used firearms before so I am going to give you a quick rundown of how they work before I start my class selection, okay?"

I just nodded my head up and down in agreement.

I can't quite figure out why but I get this knot in my chest whenever he is looking directly at me.

It's not like he's overly attractive and I am caught off guard by his looks, but his eyes seem to see directly through me rather than looking at me.

For some reason it annoys me and hurts me at the same time...

I wonder why?

While I'm lost in my thoughts once again, Leo has finished giving a quick walkthrough to Amber and now he's approaching me.

"Give me your hand" he says, reaching out and grabbing hold of my hand before I have a chance to react.

For some reason, my heart starts to race as my hand rests in his.

What is wrong with me?!

This man just killed three people in front of me just a few hours ago!

He's bad news!

But why... why can't I seem to hate him?

I don't understand...

"And that's how you use the pistol. Understand?"

Ah! I forgot to listen again!

I'm such an idiot... but I can't possibly admit that I didn't hear a single word he said! He'll think I am useless and stupid if I do that!

So I just nod my head, put on a brave face, and hope he doesn't notice.

He gives me a side eye glance as if he doesn't believe me, and my heart beats even faster when our eyes meet, but he eventually just shakes his head and turns away from me.

As he walks towards a large boulder and takes a seat I can't help but stare at him the entire time.

He doesn't seem to realize or care that I'm watching him because he starts swiping at the air as if he's scrolling through something.

The entire time he's doing that, I was never once able to look away.

"Hey little sis, you're staring an awful lot, you know that?"

Being called out so blatantly for my actions, I let out a little yelp and turn towards my sister in a panic.

"No I'm not! What are you talking about? Stop it."

Amber just gives me a knowing glance as if she can read my mind.

Since it's not like I have a private room or somewhere to hide I can only turn away and look out over the land that stretches out from the base of the small mountain we're currently standing atop, watching the sun set.

The skyline is a mixture of oranges and reds that eb and flow across the horizon.

If it weren't for the dozens of animal corpses strewn across the ground and the stench of death lingering in the air, it would be quite romantic and the perfect spot for a date.

At that thought, I subconsciously look in Leo's direction.

When I realized what I was doing, I panicked yet again.

He's not a good person! You haven't even known him a day! Stop it!

What is wrong with you Robin?!

A lot apparently!

Stupid stupid girl.

I force myself to look back out over the horizon, ignoring the snickering of my hateful sister behind me.

And that's when I see it.

A large shadow moving slowly through the plain.

I nearly screamed but I somehow managed to keep my mouth shut.

It doesn't appear as if the animal has caught sight of us yet because its not moving directly towards us, but if it continues on its current path, it's only a matter of time before it catches a whiff of the blood pool below us.

As quietly and stealthily as I can, I signal towards my sister, trying to get her attention.

But since her back is towards me, she doesn't notice me.

I want to holler, whisper, or just make a single sound but I'm too scared.

I look towards Leo, hoping he's awake, but he's still lying there unconscious.

Without any options, I turn back towards the open plane where I last saw the shadow, hoping to track it as best as I can, but its nowhere to be found now.

I frantically look around trying to locate it as quickly as I can but I only come up empty..

Stupid Robin! Never look away form a potential threat for any reason!

As I continue to scan the area, a sharp high-pitched wail that seemed to pierce the air suddenly rang out behind me.

Panicked that I had allowed something to attack Leo during his class selection, I turned towards him.

For everything that I had seen that day, this was by far the most grotesque and gruesome sight yet.

It would be something that I would remember for the rest of my life.

Leo's body was twisting, expanding and contracting in every which way imaginable.

His arms, legs, torso, and even his face seemed to lose all their muscle and bone only to inflate a millisecond later into sharper and more defined features.

The pain must have been unbearable, because he was thrashing around so much that it looked like someone had just electrocuted him with enough energy to power a city.

I wanted to help him but I feared that should I approach, somehow I too would experience pain on the same level as him, and that stopped me in my tracks.

I had no choice but to watch in horror and awe as his body continued to metamorphize into whatever its end goal was.

Is this the power of the world we live in now?

To change the very structure and body of someone?

I didn't have long to think about it though because Leo's screaming gradually died down, the thrashing finally slowed, and the changes eventually stopped occurring.

When I thought that everything was finally over, a wave of energy washed over me and it made me feel like someone had just picked up the small mountain we were standing on and rested it on my chest.

I panicked at my inability to breathe and looked towards my sister in a bid to plea for her help, but she was worse off than me and was already on the ground clutching her chest.

Thankfully, just as quickly as the feeling of suffocating appeared, it disappeared.

Gasping for breathe, I lost the power in my legs and collapsed onto my butt.

I could feel a torrent of sweat racing down by back, chest, and face, but I didn't care.

Now standing where Leo had just been was the most ridiculously handsome man I had ever seen in my entire life.

Leo now stood tall at 6 feet 2 inches, with a commanding presence accentuated by a remarkably chiseled physique. His body appeared to be a testament to ultimate peak of the human body, with well-defined muscles and a strong, confident posture that exuded strength and vitality.

Leo's hair was now a striking shade of dirty blonde, falling in thick, tousled waves that framed his face with a touch of effortless charm. The hair, though slightly disheveled, added an appealing ruggedness to his overall appearance, hinting at an active lifestyle.

Beneath a pair of sharply arched eyebrows, his eyes shimmered in a vivid shade of blue, capturing the essence of a clear summer sky. His eyes were deep and expressive, seemingly reflecting a combination of intelligence, determination, and anger.

Although I knew it was Leo because of the shredded clothes hanging from his body, it was hard to believe that someone could change this much in such a short amount of time.

I could see him scanning the area before he eventually locked eyes with me.

The moment our eyes met, it felt like time stopped.

'Mama mia that's one good looking man!' was all I could think before I passed out.
