Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Don't try to run

RUSSIA

Villanelle sneaking inside Irina's house is a difficult feat than before. The security cameras all over the place take time for Villanelle to get rid of. She creeps inside through the backdoor of the kitchen and into the living room, scanning the house for any clues. The framed pictures display a loving family yet the father, Konstantin is missing. The area is silent for a house or two, especially for an annoying kid like Irina. She searches every room to scourge for a shadow, but no hair or fart can be seen from the teenager.

Am I too late?

Villanelle hears the sound of a car stopping in the front yard. She hides momentarily behind a curtain and waits for the person to get inside the house. Taking out the gun from her waist and prepares herself to use it if the guest tries something hostile, she will be aggressive.

The person goes straight into the kitchen after arriving on the premises. Villanelle finds it eerie to see somebody wearing an all-black dress. A dreadful thought comes into the assassin's mind, as she hears the sobs of a grown woman eating a custard pie.

"What happened?" Villanelle asks glaring at the woman, her tone of voice sound extremely concerned to know the reason behind the tears pouring down the puffy cheeks of the matriarch.

The woman stands up and tries to run away but Villanelle put her gun out and aim at the broad woman.

"Don't try to run. We both know you can't."

"What do you want from me? Konstantin is not here." The woman shouts back at the rude guest with tears falling down her face.

"Where's Irina?" Villanelle asks with a steady tone. The gun in her hand is aiming at the woman's skull.

"She was at the Juvenile Facility days ago but someone took Irina and I don't know why and who," The woman answers with resentment. She wipes her tears away with a handkerchief.

"Why is Irina at a facility?" Villanelle pleads for an answer wrinkling her forehead in confusion.

"It's all Konstantin's fault. He tries to take Irina with him and uses my car to get away. Then she saw him and ran him over. My fiance. Irina killed my fiance." The woman burst into tears, mentioning the death of her lover because of the youngster's deadly deed.

Villanelle rolls her eyes and stops herself from laughing. She teaches Irina to drive before leaving Russia and this is what the kid did.

"You'll find another one," Villanelle comments, sliding her weapon back to her waist. She left Irina's house with more questions than answers. Konstantin is nowhere to find and Irina has been abducted.

JUVENILE FACILITY

The establishment is easier to overrun than Irina's place. She enters thru the employee's lounge and stole an identification card from one of the staff that goes around to check the children. The security is minimal as she predicts. The only problem she's facing is, which staff assist the abductor to take Irina out of the facility unnoticed.

An employee will have to pay the security personnel to get a kid out. They need to be careful of the cameras on each corner of the hall. Calculating all the possibilities of all the employees that can accomplish the task makes Villanelle excited to catch the rat.

She goes into the security room to check the recordings when they last see Irina at the facility. Her gut tells her the investigation must start here. An investigation will be easy if she can trace who talks to Irina while she's incarcerated.

An employee comes into the room and discovers Villanelle searching for records on the computer.

"Who are you? What are you doing here?" The man yells while staring at her as she continues probing every footage of Irina recorded by the security cameras of the facility.

"I asked who are you?" The man approaches Villanelle with hostility and she counters the gesture with the same courtesy.

She punches the man in the face with all her strength. The man is stunned by the retaliation he does not anticipate. He takes the baton out of his pocket and tries to hit Villanelle in the face. The woman knows how to defend herself and holds the weapon with her hand before it hits her hard on the head.

Villanelle smirks at the man and wonders if Carolyn will be angry if she kills him in self-defense. She knows the MI6 has strict rules even if she is not officially hired yet.

The man tries to hit Villanelle again but the woman kicks him hard on the stomach and he falls on the floor in pain. The man drops the baton and Villanelle punches him continuously on the face until blood gushes out of his nose and a cut on his forehead.

"Where is Irina?" Villanelle asks the man wearing a blue uniform. Her hands are on his collars and his lips are bloody from punches Villanelle has done.

"I don't know." The man mumbles as his rims feel painful from the blows. Villanelle will not stop punching him until his blood spills from his maw. She pulls the man's body down and hit him with her right knee. The man cough as it strikes his ribs with high-intensity. Villanelle pulls the man's head back up and questions him again.

"Who paid you to let Irina go?" Villanelle rephrases her question.

"A... A woman. She... She left a card for... someone named Villanelle. I... I left it on the drawer." The man stutters as the pain on his face and body grows.

"You should have said that earlier." Villanelle retorts, rolling his eyes as the man reveals information about Irina.

"Are you... Are you Villanelle?" The man mumbles, asking the mysterious woman who surprisingly appears out of nowhere and hits him consecutively until he almost passes out on the floor.

"Yes." Villanelle answers grinning at the man whose eyes go wide with anger.

"Why didn't you say so?! You don't have to hit me! I could have given you the car— " The man's words are interrupted when Villanelle hit him with a keyboard throwing out the keys into the air and scatter around the floor. The keyboard breaks in half and the man falls unconscious.

Villanelle goes in front of the table and opens the drawer to locate the card. She finds a postcard of London with a message on the back.

Villanelle,
