Chapter 3: The Love Death Brings
"W-was that really a dream?", he couldn't wrap his head around what the hell he just saw. "Could that really have been a dream? I mean, I'm clearly alive unless my heaven is in my room with Yuna.", Akai recoils at this thought and feels a sense of disgust hit him and then bounce off, he tried to whisk the pain away with the joke but only had a moment of relief. His body had forgotten the agony he had just supposedly experienced but his mind couldn't let go of it, he couldn't move his hand from his stomach no matter how hard he tried.
His sister was terrified when she finally saw the expression of near insanity on her brother's face, she had never seen him depressed or truly down about anything but right now he looked like he was about to snap. Terrified she asks " Akai, are you gonna be ok? You look really shook up.", her big brother looked up at her and forced a smile teeth and all. "That's a BS smile Akai, I know you better than anyone and you never smile with your teeth." She sat down next to her brother and hugged him. " I know that whatever is happening to you is really serious if it's got you all shaken like this. Whatever it is, you have Dad and I to help you. You've even got Tsuyoi too, I know he'd go to hell and back to help you."
Akai began to regain control of himself as his sister's words began to pull the pain away from him, she was the only person who could do that right now, and she did. Akai was the type of person to refute his emotions, but she was the only person he could trust enough in his life to listen, and so he could trust her with these words. "Sorry Yuna, I guess I just had a bad dream."
" Teh haha hahaha, sounds to me like you were rolling over in your sleep after you left the window open all night." She laughs at her brother who is unsure what to think about this but just chalks it up to just a bad dream, maybe he just slept in a bad position. Trying his hardest to believe this he is able to take his mind off of the gruesome dream as he and his sister head over to eat breakfast. "What are we havin' this morning?", Akai asked this strange question like she didn't make same thing every morning.
Her response to this was her usual morning routine of sarcastic banter with her brother, "Sorry baka but it's rice omelet with ketchup and hot mustard again." Weak chills ran up his spine once more before he again brushes it off as, "obviously she would make that right? She only makes rice omelets."
Nervously " Of course we are, why wouldn't we have rice omelets?", He says this with a nervous structure to his voice that clearly gets Yuna's attention when she turns around and glares at him. Was she pissed or just messing with him? He couldn't figure it out, in fact he couldn't figure anything out. The world seemed so weird and foreign to him since he woke up like he wasn't used to walking. The world was blurry still as well, he felt sick but at the same time he felt fine. "I feel like I'm gonna be sick.", he thought.
"Seriously! They aren't that bad are they Akai?" He had thought out loud on accident and now he faced a dark future, she was obviously discontent with this distasteful comment. She had a look of annoyance as her eyes locked with Akai's, hands at her hips and a weirdly small frown on her face.
"That's not what I meant Yuna, I was talking about in general I feel sick." As he said this his face turned pale. The images of Toshimichi's body and that boys innards were coming back to him faster than he could handle, his hands stiffened as he grabbed his stomach again and fell to his knees as the memory of being cut in half flooded his mind again. He wanted to puke, but he couldn't, he tried to stand but the thought of having no legs removed his desire to, he wanted to speak, but he thought he would die if he opened his mouth.
Yuna watched in horror as her brother hung over the edge of insanity once again, the only thing holding him back were the thoughts of his family having to watch this and his friends greif, he knew that there were people who would be crushed if he went crazy. Finally, feeling confident enough to speak, Yuna comforts Akai one more time as she helps him back to his feet. " Come on Aka, just keep your hand on my shoulder and let's get some breakfast.", she guided him to the table and sat him down to eat. He was still as white a feather and unable to focus on eating. "I'll be back in a sec Aka, just eat what you can and get ready. We're gonna be late if we don't hurry up."
"Sorry Yuna, I'll hurry."
Yuna headed up stairs to fix herself up for school. putting on her tie she notices a strange feeling that seems to grow around her and cover her like a cage, she couldn't get rid of the feeling of dread surrounding her and it only got worse. "What's happening? Why is thi-"
Crash! Something breaks in the kitchen and startles Yuna, she quickly finishes her tie and runs downstairs to find Nao, her and Akai's youngest sister standing over a broken glass that had shattered all over the floor. Spreading shards of glass and a puddle of orange juice all over the kitchen floor. Akai was at the door putting his shoes on and wasn't too happy to see that it had gotten to his White dress shoes and stained them orange. "Ahhh man, really Nao. Those were my shoes for next week's interview".
The voice of a young girl responded to Akai's detestable attitude. "Well I didn't mean to drop it, if you hadn't left you tie on the ground then I wouldn't have slipped and thrown it all over the place". Shocked, Yuna looks at Akai and to her displeasure he wasn't wearing his tie. Nao snipped at him again in an exasperated tone " I thought this tie was super important Akai. Why aren't you taking care of it like you do when you tell mom how to clean it"?
"Calm down Nao, he isn't doing to well today ok. He might be coming down with someth-"
" I'm fine Yuna, don't worry about me. It was my fault and I just got a little cranky is all. Sorry Nao, I didn't mean to yell at you."
" You better be sor-"
Yuna interrupts her again with haste " you clearly aren't ok Aka, you almost threw up twice already. You shouldn't even be going to school but I know you wouldn't ever miss a day of school even if you had Ebola." She looks at her brother with a really concerning look now, trying to get him to take a hint but it's useless, he just pops the door open and looks at her impatiently.
"Well. You're the one who told me to hurry up so lets get a move on Yu-"
Just before he could finish his sentence, the world around him filtered out to a black and white tone all around, the first emotions that Akai felt were depression and sadness as the life of his families lovely was sucked out of it. Then he realized that this was familiar as his began blowing in the stationary air and his body felt like it could move but wouldn't. He looked at Yuna who had watery eyes that reflected a bit of light and then to his 12 yr old sister Nao, she still had that annoyed look on her face. Then suddenly the world began to warp and twist as the color flooded back into it and everything returned to normal.
Nao stood there confused as to why her brother stopped talking and Yuna just waited for him to get out the door. Standing there dumbfounded and in disbelief, Akai didn't know what to think anymore and just blindly walked out the door. "Come on Yuna, we're gonna be late if we keep messing around".
"I'm right behind you Akai.", the two got on the bike and Akai turned back to Nao before shutting the door.
"Make sure you clean that up or mom will get mad ok!"
She raised her hand with something in it and had a cocky grin on her face now. " You forgot your tie AGAIN Akai."
Akai went to get off but Yuna beat him to hit and swooped the tie from her sister's hand. "Thanks Nao, see yah later"!
The two of them head off to school at a quicker pace than usual but didn't bother going too fast because they were already and had accepted that fact. "Hey Yuna, how was your meeting with Tsuyoi yesterday?"
In an embarrassed voice "It went well I guess. We just talked about orientation."
Akai rushes her with another comment in a sarcastic voice " Ah man that sucks, I thought you might have actually done something sis, too bad you seize up around him."
"Shut it! Shut it! Shut, it!", she smacks her brother in the back of the head a few times out of embarrassment. She turns Akai's head towards the shops they were passing a little with her last assault. Akai opens his eyes after she had finished and looked forward again but just as he did this he noticed a weird streak of light off of the shop window.
Suddenly Akai hears something zip by them and looks over to the left to see a nightmarish sight. It was the girl from his dream, she was running along the rooftops only a little slower than they were. "N-no way! Is that really her?!", upon saying this she turns and looks him dead in the eyes with those cold and psychotic eyes as a disturbing grin formed on her face. The blue in her eyes left a streak of turquoise light trailing behind her for a short distance. The more they looked at each other the more fear rushed into Akai, the more that horrible pain overtook him. He turned to his sister and shouted "Put your arms around me Yuna"!
"W-what? Why"?
"Just do it dammit, we're gonna take a detour"!
Confused, Yuna just decided to do it anyway since he had been acting weird all day. "Ok, whatev-".
She puts her arms around Akai's torso but before she could finish talking Akai tore the bike out into the middle of the street trying to use the passing cars as cover from their pursuer. Yuna, now totally lost and panicking about the current situation is yelling at Akai and hitting him, trying to get him to get back off the busy street. "Yuna! Stop hitting me and hold on, this is gonna suck!", thinking she's about to die, she grabs him and prepares for an impact. Akai sees a gap in between two cars and takes it, dashing through the gap he skims a light pole upon returning to the sidewalk and tears skin from his leg causing him to bleed severely. "Tch, damn that hurts gaah"!
Akai looks to his right at a shop window that was coming up and to his horror, in the reflection he saw a blue haired girl running right behind him and his sister now, only a few feet behind them holding something silver in her left hand. "What! How did she get here so fast?!", he realizes in this moment that he is totally outmatched. "She's gotta be running at least 40 Kilometers no more like 50! This bitch is crazy"! He looks back and sees her sprinting with perfect strides and slowly catching up, the worst part about it was she didn't even look like she was trying either.
Yuna looked back after Akai did and saw the girl as well and started panicking even more now, she wasn't sure if her brother was suicidal or if she was going crazy as well. "Akai! What the hell is happening!? Why is this lady chasing us?!", she looked back again and saw the eyes of an insane person looking back at her, Yuna saw a surprisingly attractive woman plagued with psychotic nature and a Lust for blood. Then she saw the knife in her hand, it was Yuna favorite knife covered in blood all the way down. " I-is that my knife? Akai! She has my knife"!
Akai, knew instantly what she meant and didn't even bother to look back at her, he knew that everyone in his family was already dead and there was nothing he could do but survive. "Yuna! Jump!", the woman leaped forward with her knife pointed forward at the siblings. Akai threw his sister off of the bike and dropped down into a slide on the concrete using his bike to slow down easier, while he was doing this he saw her flying straight at him and only moments away from thrusting the knife into his throat.
A voice spoke to him from some unknown place he couldn't see, it was a kind a loving voice, Akai could tell that she was talking to him and him alone when the world around him turned to a starry night.
"I love you Akai. I hope to see you again one day".
