Chapter 2: An Ice Cold Wand

"Heir Pen- I mean Arthur wake up," I hear Ragnok say to me. "We've arrived at your vault."

I get up and look around, the environment was like a cave only lit by torches. A giant golden metal door with the name Pendragon on it was directly in front of us. We get out of the mine cart and walk up to it. As we get closer I notice more details on the door, the name Pendragon had the design of a sword put through it, a dragon was circling around the name, and countless jewels were on it.

'Too flashy,' I think to myself.

'I agree,' Merlin says in agreement. 'That gold, those jewels, and the inscriptions all basically scream 'I'm rich!''

"The Pendragon vault requires two things to open it," Ragnok says. "The key and magic from a Pendragon, so put your hand on the door and inject a bit of mana into it."

I do as Ragnok said and place my hand on the door. Focusing on my hand I let a bit of magic out into it. Once I did this a keyhole revealed itself and I used the key my parents gave me to unlock it. The outline of a door glows in front of me and the metal of the vault disappears inside the outline to reveal the inside of the vault. Countless galleons, sickles, and priceless jewels were piled up to the ceiling. Merlin jumped off my back as I filled my bag with galleons and sickles.

'What are you doing Merlin?' I ask her with a bored expression.

'Just grabing some important stuff,' Merlin answers. 'My vault's attached to the Pendragon's so I might as well grab some things.'

'Don't take to long, I still have other stuff to do,' I tell her.

'Don't worry, I'm already in my vault,' Merlin informs me.

'Great hurry up,' I respond.

While waiting for Merlin I start looking through the vault. Digging through the piles of galleons, I spot a bit of leather. I pull it out to reveal a wand holster with a silver eastern dragon design on the buckle. Deciding to keep the wand holster, I start back looking through the piles again to find a dagger in a sheathe. It looked more like a combat knife with a black blade and a ruby near the hilt.

'That's a good dagger,' Merlin tells me, snapping me out of my thoughts. 'Especially with the ruby in the hilt.'

'Your back?' I ask her. 'Anyway, what's so important about a ruby? I thought it's just a regular gemstone.'

'Rubies are powerful gems, they grow dull to warn you of danger, they can enhance healing magic, they can increase damage and prevent it,' Merlin informs me with a serious tone. 'They are the gem of the king which possesses an inner fire so be sure to wear it on your left side.'

Hearing this I put on the belt the sheathe was attached to. I pick up Merlin and put her on my shoulders. I walk out of the vault, the door closes behind me, and I get back in the cart. Once I was on, Ragnok (who was already there since I entered the vault) started the cart and we return to the surface. Once on the surface, I leave Gringotts and head to Ollivander's.

-[Ollivander's]-

Once in Ollivander's I take note of the surroundings, the shop was tiny, empty except for a single, spindly chair in the corner. Thousands of narrow boxes containing wands were piled right up to the ceiling of the tiny shop, and the whole place had a thin layer of dust about it.

"Heir Pendragon, I was expecting you," An old man with pale silvery eyes and white skin tells me. "I remember both of your parents' wands. Your father's wand was custom made, griffin feather and spruce, good for duels and incredibly loyal. Your mother's wand was made with unicorn hair and ebony, great with charms and shield spells. Now which arm is your wand arm?"

"I'm right handed," I tell him as he pulls out a tape measure and measures my height (4 ft, 10 in).

Ollivander quickly moves to a shelf nearby, pulling out a box, and handing me the wand inside, "Phoenix feather and chestnut, 7 and a half inches, very rigid, go ahead and give it a flick."

I do as Ollivander says and flick it, which happens to cause a book nearby to catch on fire. Ollivander quickly extinguishes the flame, repairs the book, and takes the wand, putting it back in the box.

'I think we're gonna be here for a while,' Merlin tells me. 'So I'm gonna take a nap, wake me when you get your wand and leave so I can remove the tracer.'

-(An hour later)-

'WHY IS IT TAKING SO FRICKIN' LONG FOR ME TO GET A DANG WAND???!!!' I yell inside my mind as Ollivander takes back another wand.

If Reparo didn't exist, half the shop would be totaled due to the destruction I caused simply waving a wand not suited for me. I could tell that for some reason Ollivander was getting more excited with each wand I tried as he muttered, "This is getting curiouser and curiouser."

Soon Ollivander gave me a new wand, one that instead of being a normal wood color was icy blue, and told me, "This wand is a bit special, a whisker specially given by a eastern ice dragon, a western ice dragon heartstring, an English oak found near the center of a forest right beside a frozen over lake on the winter solstice, 11 inches, nice and flexible. This wand has been known to freeze wizards who try to use this wand but in theory if this wand works for you, it'll be very powerful, giving you an immunity to all spells involving the cold, easy manipulation and powerful amplification of magic, a strong affinity for spells involving ice and the cold, and a preference for non-verbal magic. It'll also be fiercely loyal protecting you with an ice aura and will never betray you by going to another person. However I've never found someone with the right qualifications to use the wand."

He gently hands me the wand with a look of high expectation, I give the wand a flick cautiously. The wand let out a calm, cool glow from the tip. I felt a bond form between me and the wand as this happened.

"Brilliant, a Pendragon with that wand will be very interesting," Ollivander says. "7 galleons."

"Are you sure it's just 7 galleons?" I ask since I expected it to be more due to the nature of the materials.

"This wand has been here for a long time," Ollivander tells me. "It may have been made out of once in a lifetime materials but, I'm happy to have been here to see it finally chose an owner."

'You have a pretty good wand,' Merlin tells me. 'English oak with dragon materials just like my wand.'

'You were awake?' I ask her as I pay Ollivander. 'Since when?'

'When I sensed the draconic materials in the wand,' Merlin answers. 'Due to your mana core draconic materials with elements will work better for you. Also, I already removed the trace from your wand.'

'Anything interesting with the English oak?'

'It's known as the King of the Forest from the winter solstice up until the summer solstice, and its wood should only be collected during that time. But as the days begin to shorten again holly becomes the king, and so holly should only be gathered as the year wanes.' Merlin informs me. 'Due to this they say 'When his wand's oak and hers is holly, then to marry would be folly.''

'Well glad I'm crazy, cause if I get married I don't care what wood my wife's wand is made from,' I tell her as I take a look at my school supply list.

"Guess I need to visit Madam Malkin's to get my robes," I say out loud to no one in particular as I head in the direction of Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. 'I also kinda want some formal gloves I can wear year round.'

-(30 minutes later)-

'Okay, I got my robes, my wand, my cauldron, my scales, my phials, and my telescope,' I think to myself as I check the list. 'Guess I got it all so~ time for sleep!'

'I swear your lazier than a cat,' Merlin tells me.

'That's saying a lot since it is actually coming from a cat,' I tell her in mock surprise as I head to The Leaky Cauldron. 'Well I couldn't care less anyways, wonder if I can find a telly to watch somehow watch Doctor Who?'

'Thought you wanted to sleep?' Merlin asks me with a smug expression on her cat face.

'Thought you want me to stop my parents from having your tubes tied?' I ask her making her face become pale.

'Why are you so interested in Doctor Who?' Merlin asks now carefully choosing her words.

'Well in my second life it was already on Doctor number 13 in the series,' I tell her. 'And very hard to find episodes featuring Doctor 1-8 so, I'm happy to be able to see Doctor number 7 on the telly.'

'And again I ask, why are you so interested in Doctor Who?' Merlin asks me a second time.

'It has really good writing for the time,' I answer. 'I mean I thought I wouldn't be able to stand the stuff the 1980's and 1990's had on the telly but...'

'Well you won't catch me looking at that me anyway, besides can you even explain it?' Merlin questions.

'Easily, just give me a chance to explain,' I tell her. 'I bet I can turn you into a whovian with my explanation and one episode of it.'

'You have one chance,' Merlin tells me.

'That's all I need clever girl,' I tell her. 'Doctor Who is about a man named the Doctor who, by the way, is an alien whose species are called Time Lords. See in their universe Time Lords can before humans so we would look like them. But Time Lords have very key features that differentiate them from us; two hearts that are a must, meaning they both have to be beating, they are extremely tough and resilient, they are immune to Röntgen radiation which are both X-rays and gamma rays, they don't need much sleep, they can heal from certain amount of damage via a `healing coma`, high sounds don't affect him, they can resist attempts at disintegration, they can friggin' fly, they live for hundreds of years yet look younger than humans their age, enhanced senses, a body temperature of 31 degrees Celsius, larger brains than humans with the ability to separate the hemispheres for multitasking, and when close to death they have the ability to regenerate with new bodies.'

'So far you only told me about how amazing Time Lords are,' Merlin comments.

'Oh shut up you, I had to explain what a Time Lord is before explaining the rest,' I tell Merlin before continuing my explanation. 'The Doctor travels in something called the T.A.R.D.I.S, which stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space -which is stuck in the form of a police in a box btw-, and he travels with companion's, humans mostly, across all of time and space having adventures which could involve historical figures or aliens in the past, present, and/or future. But to warn you in the series time is EXTREMELY relative, the Doctor could be talking to someone and they know him but he doesn't know them yet or he could be talking to himself from the future and freaks out about destroying the universe but nothing happens.'

'So the Doctor is this all powerful being?' Merlin asks with intrigue.

'Nope, he's just very~ lucky and very~ smart,' I respond. 'Other stuff would be spoilers which is a common saying in the community.'

By this time, we made it to my inn room and I found out we had a telly in it.

'Now for the episode,' I say to her with excitement that I don't normally have. 'Next stop everywhere!'

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
LokiTheUmbreon LokiTheUmbreon

I decided to give Arthur a special wand with two cores and an English oak wand wood with a special attribute. Because I like ice, like a lot, I also decided to make Arthur's wand based on the element of ice.

Also I'm a huge Doctor Who fan, Doctor Who started airing in 1963 so it's the right time period for it.

P.S. My Favorite Doctor is the 11th one played by Matt Smith
