Chapter 1: Catastrophe
In the year 2024, multiple mmorpg and tower defense games flourished having millions of players online every day. Though the tower defense games that they made were a bit different from the original. The tower defense game they developed was the same except for the towers, since what they did is that they replaced the towers with characters instead. They added a gacha system where you get to summon different entities or characters of different ranks, abilities, and factions. A player from the Philippines with the name Angel Cruz was known for his powerful 7 star units, being able to clear multiple levels at ease and reaching the top.
But as soon as he reached the top, Angel then decided to play the mmorpg games and abandoning the tower defense game he once played.

**WARNING**
All tv screens were suddenly opened to the word WARNING, as in the background can be seen multiple large looking gates falling from the sky. As the camera man focused the camera on the large gates, the gate opened and beasts and monsters that looked like it came out from a game bursts out from the gates and attacked the people closest to them.
"Woah, people are getting good with their CGI this days.", Angel's friend says.
"Huh, what do you mean?", Angel turns his head away from the laptop to look at the news.
"I mean I get that people are now hooked to games but to put things like this in the news is just...", Angel's friend says in an upset tone.
"I don't think that's CGI... *ring* *ring*", as Angel was about to finish his sentence, the door bell rang multiple times.
Angel looked over at the peephole to see who was ringing the door bell but nobody could be seen. He then returned back to his seat and suddenly the door bell once again rang. He got irritated with it and stood up from his seat and opened the door. But before he got to open the door, his friend said something...
"Survive?"
Angel thought he was just murmuring to himself and opened the door. To his surprise, he saw a little goblin with a club on his hand. A system panel then popped in front of him with a quest.
[Survive the opening debut of the game of the gods.]
"What?", Angel says in disbelief
The little goblin then hit Angel's ankle with the club and fell down in pain. The ground started shaking as if a massive being was walking towards them and the little goblin ran away in fear. Angel managed to shrug off the pain and stood up to check.
"Angel, we need to get out off here!", Angel's friend shouts
The floor rumbled again as they felt something big was getting closer. His friend looked outside the window and saw outside a large minotaur holding a large hammer.
"Angel, what are you still standing there for! We need to get out of here!", His friend shout at him.
"Y-yeah!", Angel answered.
They went to the emergency stairs and went down. The minotaur then swinged with its hammer with great force and brought down the building. Angel managed to survive with a few concussions but his friend's foot was stuck to one of the heavy debris, it had seemed that when they fell down, one of the debris fell down to his leg.
"Hey stupid, look behind you.", Angel's friend points at the minotaur behind Angel.
The minotaur stared at them and got his hammer ready to swing it down to them.
"What are you still doing there! Get away!", His friend shouts at him.
He got back to his senses and instinctively moved away from the hammer. The minotaur then smashed its hammer down to his friend, killing him. He couldn't do anything, as it is in the nature of humans to feel fear in front of the powerful and strong.
The thought of death ran through his mind and closed his eyes. The sound of helicopters could be heard and as he opened his eyes. A man with a sword then charged to the minotaur but he was only able to slash him. The helicopters started to open fire on the minotaur and the man went for the minotaur's neck when it was getting distracted.
Angel felt relieved but the feeling of sadness for not being able to do anything for his friend to survive was more powerful. The minotaur was brought thanks to the man with sword.
"Hey, you okay?", the man with the sword asks Angel.
"M-my friend, Christian!", Angel cries.
"Yeah, I saw. I'm sorry I was late, if I was here a bit early, I could've have saved your friend.", he comforts Angel.
"Rias! We need to go quickly, monsters are starting to move over here!", the soldier inside the helicopter shouts.
"Bring down the ladder, this guy's coming with you!", Rias shouts.
They brought down the ladder and had me board the helicopter. The helicopter left the man named Rias down there with the monsters but I didn't feel any feeling of worry or concern, as if I know he was going to survive the number of monsters.
After 4 hours, I was brought to Palawan, an island which was a part of the Philippines. The soldiers said that it was the most protected island right now in the Philippines. We went down from the helicopter and brought me to a tent to have me get medical assistance.
As I walked through the camp, I noticed that the soldiers weren't holding guns but rather weapons you'd see in games, the ones wearing hoods were holding staffs and the ones with heavy armor were holding swords. There were soldiers that had guns but most of them were the ones with swords and staffs. It has been reported that not only here, but the whole world were going in shambles because of the appearance of the gates and monsters, I had no choice but to adapt to the world right now.
As 3 years passes, the world had gone through a change. Firstly, multiple factions were built as the appearance of the awakened were increasing, the ones that awakened during the 'Time Of Catastrophe' had built their faction in order to have power that rivals the government. Secondly are the debut of gods, the survival quests was completed for those who managed to live a single day in the 'Time of Catastrophe', and as they survived, multiple gods started appearing in the system panel, and each faction had one god blessing them with power and items. And finally the gates, the gates appeared back then had no crystal to them and the monsters could freely burst out as they want but now, the gates have a crystal on top of them with different colors indicating their difficulty. It has been said by the 'Defender', people who raids the gates is that gates have certain missions to complete before completely destroying the gates.
Back to Angel Cruz, due to me not awakening yet, the only job I could get right now is as a 'Porter' or other commonly known as a bag carrier. Awakening is either by chance or through a god's will, even after the rigorous training I went through, the only job I could get was a porter just because I'm un-awakened. I joined a gate raid to earn money, the difficulty of the gate was yellow meaning its a medium ranked gate with only c-class and d-class monsters inside.
We were all ready and went inside. The inside was not something we expected, the sky was dark and gloomy and the trees looked dried and dead.
"Everyone, be ready and stay alert. We still don't know what could be the monsters are.", C-rank Defender tank-class Mark Santos says.
[Mission type: Survival - survive the waves of enemies until the 10th wave.]
'A survival type huh, its a good thing we brought a supporter-type here', Angel sighs in relief.
"Hey porter! count the number of potions you have on your bag.", D-rank Defender assassin-class Melanie Gonzalez.
"We have about 10 of each potion.", Angel answers.
My bag isn't a normal one but its a space-type item that I bought so that I can bring a number of items without feeling heavy.
"Why do you need potions when we have Rachel with us?", D-rank Defender barbarian-class Daniel Perez asks.
"A supporter can't function if they ran out of mana, that's why bringing potions is a basic of the basics.", Mark answers.
"Even still...", Daniel gets cut off.
[The waves are starting in 10 seconds.]
As the wave started, I stayed in the middle of them since they work in a triangular formation with the porter and the support in the middle. But a problem came on the 10th wave where the boss came. They had defeated it yet the notification for completion had not yet appeared, getting the party worried.
[11th wave shall now start.]
[**Warning**]
[Changing difficulty to 'Black']
"W-what!?", Mark shouts in disbelief
It was the first time where a difficulty color black appeared. The highest difficulty gate that had appeared was red color which needed 5 S-class Defenders to clear.
A gate came out of the ground and monsters appeared similarly to the time back then, a moment similar to the 'Time of Catastrophe'. They tried to fend them off but they were soon overwhelmed by the difference of power. The monsters resembled demons, they looked creepy and strong. Rachel hid behind me as we watch them get eaten by the demons, both of us were devoured by fear, and especially since the situation was similar to back then.
The demons walked up to us, smiling. I closed my eyes knowing that death come next.
'If only I hadn't come here! Damn my weakness and everything!', Angel shouts in his mind.
'Huh? Why is my head still intact?', Angel wonders.
"Seriously, are you really our master?", a familiar voice.
'A voice? Wait, why does it sound familiar?', Angel opens his eyes to see.
As I opened my eyes, I wondered where did this man come from. He was a bit taller than me, had red hair, wearing a black coat, and was holding two swords. Memories from back then came, there was one unit I had which reached the 7th star. Cerios, the dual blade of the moon, he was one of my units that I used as I rose to the top of the tower defense game.
"This is a dream isn't it? Ha, to think I'd see my unit after my death.", Angel says.
Cerios then grabbed the demon and slit the demon's head off. He then slapped Angel back to reality.
"Oi, wake up. You need to get moving.", Cerios says to him
"Wait, if your real, then...", Angel says as a golden system panel shows in front of him.
