Chapter 1: Chapter 1

I sat on the cold stone bench overlooking the city of Elysium, shrouded in permanent darkness no mage had figured out how to lift.

I vividly remembered the day the darkness had fallen. I had defeated Azrael the Archon of Darkness with the aid of all the mages the world could offer.

I was the only warrior at the battle as warriors were naturally weaker than mages. However, I alone was the exception to that unwritten rule.

In my early life, I had tried to figure out why that was so but I wasn't the greatest of researchers and so I gave up a while later.

In my journey to figure out why I was stronger than every mage, I found out why mages are stronger than ninety-nine point nine per cent of warriors(me being the exception of course)

It was during a trip to The Dead Kings Rest, an island off the northeastern coast of The Continent. By chance, I had stumbled across a library of old scrolls, written in a long-forgotten language.

I brought the scrolls back to the mages guild in Elysium for them to try and decipher. According to the scrolls, it was because mages had a ball, about the size of a marble in their chest.

The ball contained energy the scrolls referred to as mana. It strengthened the mage's body and also allowed them to cast spells.

A warriors body holds mana but they are not able to use any of it. It just sort of flows around inside them. When I first found out I was stronger than mages I went to the makes guild and got a "mana application test"

The test determined how well your body was able to store and use mana, providing you could use some in the first place.

I didn't have a mana core but my body was already saturated with mana. The odd thing about was that even though my body held more mana than the most powerful mage I wasn't able to control it at all.

Where this differed from other warriors was that my body was infused with mana, my muscles and bones were partly made up of it. Other warriors just had it floating around inside them, not affecting their bodies in the slightest.

I was jerked out of my thoughts as I heard a war horn blowing from across the city. I sighed then pulled myself on the bench to start my lonely walk to the north gate

After we defeated the first Archon, Azrael, it became known that he had a sister, Rhea. According to a few people who have met her and didn't die, Rhea was the most bloodthirsty person on The Continent.

She killed for fun and razed villages to the ground just to listen to the screams of the villagers as they died under her mace.

There was a lot of rumours surrounding her mace. One rumour said that it was a gift from the King of The Underworld and was enchanted by the gods.

I was never one to believe rumours but after watching her in action I grew inclined to the idea that there was a type of godly enchantment on the mace.

First of all the mace was the same size as her and the head of the mace was made out of the hardest and heaviest metal that was ever found.

Combine that with the fact that she swings it with one hand like it's a sword…you would be crazy to think that she didn't have some sort of divine blessing.

I reached the gate that separated the city of Elysium from the war-ravaged lands of The Continent.

I noticed that there was a reduced watch tonight probably because this fight would be the turning point between the Archon and their forces and the armies of The Continent.

If the Archons won then all hope was lost and there was no point in putting out a full watch only for them to get decimated by the Archons forces.

If the armies from The Continent won there was no need for a watch as there would no longer be any threat.

I checked to make sure my sword was secure at my waist and I took one last look at my status as the worn gate creaked open revealing my opponent.

---------------------------------------------------

Jason the Unfaltering

Strength: 999(MAX)

Vitality: 926

Endurance: 879

Intelligence: 0

Titles: Bane of Azrael, Scourge of The Underworld, Liberator of Elysium

Effects: 10% damage to Archons, 20% damage to the undead, 20% chance for a person to obey your order without question

---------------------------------------------------

Because I was a warrior my physical stats were high and the "intelligence" stat, which dictated how much mana a person had, was at zero. I always found it a bit weird that even though my body was constantly full of mana it wasn't recognised by my status.

I had tried many things to raise my "intelligence" stat from enlisting the help of the most powerful mages The Continent had to offer, to eating monster cores full to the brim with mana.

The mages had no idea what was going on with me and when the mana from the monster cores entered my body it just disappeared like I never absorbed it in the first place.

I looked at the "Vitality" and "Endurance" stat, a bit annoyed that I wasn't able to raise them to the max before the fight. I had been killing every monster in sight for the past year as soon as I learned I was the battle the Archons sister.

I did not doubt that Rhea would be a very formidable opponent. She has demonstrated it many times in the past. One of the most memorable ones was when she single-handedly almost wiped out the entire population of mages.

Due to that, every mage refused to fight her which only left me, as the other warriors were too weak. I vividly remembered the day it happened.

A message had been delivered to the mages guild stating that Azrael was going to be resurrected. I desperately tried to convince the mages that it was a trap but they wouldn't listen.

They had gotten too used to the power they wielded and completely forgot that somebody might be stronger than them.

I had refused to go hoping it would make them think twice, they didn't listen to me and lost one thousand and forty-two mages, leaving only three left, the Grand Mage, his apprentice and one woman who got lucky and hid in a pile of corpses.

I quickly brushed these thoughts to the back of my head as the gate fully opened with a clack sending an echo across the empty city.
