Chapter 22: Hunting Competition (4)

Meanwhile, in the outskirts of the Southern Forest, Mo Bei could feel the shadows of experienced rank 1 Gu Masters follow them stealthily. Most likely, they were sent by the clan in order to make sure they would not die to boars. After all, they were assets of the clan, which invested a considerable amount of resource to awaken their aperture and raise their cultivation through teaching, primeval stones and even going so far as to give them two Gu worms.

Tang Chi followed closely behind Mo Bei, her eyes fixed on the blood stalker Gu worm as it crawled up the trunk of a tree. The worm was a powerful tool for tracking, and she had proven herself to be a master of using it to his advantage. Since she chose it, Mo Bei forced her to practice at night in order to track injured boars, allowing the group to double their hunting efficiency.

Tracking a wild boar king was no different.

As they walked through the dense forest, Mo Bei explained his plan to Tang Chi. He knew that the boar king they were hunting had a lair filled with remnants of boars that died of old age. Wild boars were intelligent, and rather than letting other beasts feed on their deceased ones, they preferred to let them die in peace. This meant that they would be able to collect dozens of boar tusks in one go, as long as they could sneak into the lair.

Of course, after a month of wandering in wine taverns, the group knew that those lairs were often led by wild boar kings. Typically, only a team of veteran rank 1 gu masters would attempt such a feat, but Mo Bei was confident in his own strength. He was determined to win the competition, and he knew that the rewards for bringing back a boar king's tusks would be worth it.

As they reached the top of the hill, Tang Chi saw the blood stalker Gu worm had led them to a clearing. In the center of the clearing was the entrance to the boar king's lair.

Mo Bei took a deep breath and signaled for Tang Chi and Shi Feng to follow him closely. He entered the lair first, scanning the area for any potential threats. Tang Chi followed closely behind, her eyes scanning the area for any sign of movement.

"Incredible", Shi Feng muttered at the sight

The lair was filled with the remnants of boars that had died of old age, just as Mo Bei had predicted. The smell was overpowering, and Tang Chi struggled to keep from gagging.

"This stinks...", she complained before supressing her nausea

Mo Bei moved with confidence, quickly locating the tusks. He began to gather them, placing them into a large sack he had brought with him.

Tang Chi stood guard, her Moonlight Gu at the ready in case they were attacked. As she watched Mo Bei gather the tusks, she couldn't help but feel grateful to be working under such a skilled and confident leader.

Mo Bei crept quietly towards the sleeping Wild Boar King, his Moonlight Gu at the ready. They had been waiting for the right opportunity to strike. Using his liquor worm, little gu and moonlight Gu in combination, Mo Bei was prepared.

"Shhh", he mentioned to his subordinates who were gasping in excitement, "As soon as I attack it, follow me and shoot out as many moonlight blades as you can until you deplete all your primeval essence in your aperture!"

As he approached, Mo Bei realized that the beast was much more massive than he thought. I was the size of a human being in height, and probably weighed more than three hundred kilograms.

Still, he took a deep breath and swung his Moonlight Gu with precision, striking the boar in its legs to deal a crippling blow. The boar let out a loud roar, waking up in a frenzy. Mo Bei knew that he had to act fast. He signaled to his companions, Tang Chi and Shi Feng, who quickly sprang into action.

"NOW!", he shouted

The three gu masters worked together with seamless coordination, attacking the boar from all sides with a barrage of moonlight gu blades. The boar thrashed and roared, but the trio held their ground, determined to bring down the Wild Boar King.

However, Mo Bei's attacks were on par with peak rank 1 Gu Masters thanks to the liquor worm. The first strike had already been fatal, targeting its legs and crippling its movements. Afterwards, it was just a matter of finishing it off quickly.

Tang Chi's Moonlight Gu blade sliced through the air, striking the boar's flank with a sharp crack. Shi Feng's Moonlight Gu followed, striking the boar's snout with a resounding impact.

Mo Bei took advantage of the distraction, swinging his Moonlight Gu with precision and striking the boar once again. The boar let out a final roar, its massive form falling to the ground in defeat. Mo Bei, Tang Chi, and Shi Feng stood panting, their Moonlight Gu blades still at the ready in case the boar made one final attack. But it was clear that the Wild Boar King was defeated as they approached. Just in case, Mo Bei swung his knife into its eye. Seeing no reaction, it seemed that it was completely dead.

Mo Bei looked at his companions with a sense of pride and respect. "You both fought bravely," he said, his voice filled with a sense of fulfillment. Their sleepless night sessions of hunting had proved effective

After all, hunting a wild boar king, which was a rank 1 wild beast, was no small achievement. Many Gu Masters died in an attempt to do so, not to mention mere students like them. Tang Chi and Shi Feng smiled back, nodding in agreement.

After several minutes, the group emerged from the lair, each one with a sack of tusks slung over their shoulder. Tang Chi was keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings in spite of the victory. She knew that being complacent in the wilderness was the main factor why Gu Masters sometimes died.

As they made their way back to the surface, Mo Bei's subordinates couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in what they had accomplished. With their boss' guidance and expertise, they had done accomplished something that experienced Gu Masters would not dare to attempt.

Tang Chi knew that she had much to learn, but she felt confident that under Mo Bei's leadership, she would continue to grow and become a skilled gu master in her own right.
