Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve: Playing Rust IRL

Carrow and company were back in Menagerie. What were they doing? Manufacturing the ever living shit out of the now termed 'Players'. Due to the fact that the bots could utilize their rust powers due to being born out of their soul, or at least that's how they explain the phenomenon, changes were put into Project Experience.

Previously it was meant to be a 1v1v1, this was promptly thrown out of the window, and a new plan was in play.

The new plan was actually a recommendation from DeeJay while high. In his own words 'why don't we just play rust?'.

These wise words led to them to building a cargo plane, and then airdropping hundreds of 'Players' all over the north eastern part of Menagerie. All of the players were uploaded with the rules upon activation. No going out of bounds; this meant going to Kuo Kuana, no teams larger than fifty, human players can't team with each other, and lastly don't fuck with the main base.

The main base went through some BIG redesigns, now no longer looking like a Rust base but a monolith of reinforced concrete with massive concrete walls, SAM turrets, actual turrets, and a small army; courtesy of 'Cobalt Private Military'. This place was designed to function much like Outpost.

Yeah, they recreated Cobalt. The main base is now in charge of airdrops, helicopter launches, chinook crates, monument building although these monuments were actually functional unlike the ruined ones in the game.

The penultimate end goal of Cobalt was to recreate each and every monument and get them to work. This meant creating launch site, launching satellites for the Satellite Dish Array to work, and so on and so forth.

A massive project, that the ultimate end goal was to nuke the entire place, thus recreating Rust.

As for what the human players were doing? Well they would be playing the game just as the others were. The only one that wouldn't be playing the game would be Worm. Worm was relocated to the main base and was now the supreme intelligence of Cobalt and made sure that everything was moving smoothly.

There was only now one main problem. Robots didn't respawn, instead their soul and mind would reside inside of the memory core, and only through reconstructing an entire chassis and then replacing the old memory core would they 'respawn' as it were.

This actually helped control the 'Players' as it were as DeeJay's were rather spastic and chaotic to say the very least.

As more and more Players were deployed, Grimm populations actually decreased to exceedingly low margins; being over hunted for a nice fur hat or the fat in their belly. Bots also started either forming their own factions, or joining the human factions.

Carrow's Faction was known as the 'Lords of Hades' and he gained the title of Grimm's Bane.

He was bored one day and then he decided to try and tame a Grimm, thus capturing and then enacting exceedingly cruel torture techniques on the demons.

He taught all those under his reign to utterly HATE the Grimm, and his base had the largest amounts of skulls and skeletons surrounding it.

When you can teach a machine, soul or no, to hate something with a zealous viciousness only found in the human race, you know you're doing something right.

DeeJay's Faction was known as the Gunner Nomads, lots of trucks and generally filled with Player hunters. They don't destroy any memory cores, but hunt players down simply for the PVP. He was 'Mad Max' personified.

Max's group was the Shadow Clan. Assassin's, snipers, grubs, and bushwookies. Sneaky motherfuckers that can put a bullet in your skull or chassis a kilometer or two away. They valued secrecy and all those that joined him wore ninja clothes and a blank mask.

There were several other 'Player' clans but the two with the most traction were the 'Iron Legion'. They hunted the human player faction and were generally filled with DeeJay's bots, crazy fuckers.

The other 'Player' clan was the Eco Clan. Miners, Farmers, and Industrialist, formed mostly of Carrow and Max's bots, with a good amount of the most greedy of DeeJay's bots. They were greedy as all hell and WILL gouge you of everything you own.

Northern Menagerie was turned into a literal free for all warzone. Carrow at some point went ahead and stole a blueprint for the Paladin, then revamped the entire thing to be a mobile artillery unit. Blasting dozens of missiles every day at Iron Legion and Shadow Clan territory. Max was playing gorilla warfare simulator, sabotaging and sniping Carrow every time he took off his helmet.

Meanwhile DeeJay would drive up, raid a base, steal everything not nailed down and then blow up everything that is, before driving off into the sunset, stashing his new found loot in far out of the way locations, before repeating the process; only limited by how many casualties he takes and how many explosives he has.

Carrow was the most organized and forward facing of them all. Large armies of Scrap Bots, Hummer Jeeps and Bomber planes. Heavy hitter, but static and easy to hit in turn. He had to patch holes while also fighting back against several different enemies, however a tight alliance with the Eco Clan balanced things out.

All of this fighting however eventually brought some attention toward Northern Menagerie.
