Chapter 2: Ruthless Alpha

Chapter 2:

As Alpha Charles was pacing back and forth in his room, deep in thought about the prophecy, the door creaked open. Luna Queen Maya stepped in, her dress shimmering in the dim light, her face had a lot of vibrant colors. She had just come from the festival, the festival that Alpha Charles had left to seek solitude in his quiet room.

Her bright looking face, usually happy, looked sad and forlorn. This unusual expression on Queen Maya's face caused a ripple of worry to run through Alpha Charles. He stopped pacing and turned to her, his brows furrowed in concern.

"What's wrong, Maya?" he asked, his voice filled with worry.

Queen Maya sighed, her shoulders slumping. "No one at the festival seems to have a welcoming expression around me," she complained bitterly.

Alpha Charles felt a pang of sympathy for Queen Maya. He rushed to her side, laying his hand gently on her chin, which was flushed red from distress. He could feel her worries seeping into him, adding to the burden he was already carrying in his heart.

Despite the prophecy weighing heavily on his mind, he decided to put it aside for the moment.

The care and love he had for Queen Maya, was undying.

With a reassuring smile, he took her hand in his. "Let's go back to the festival," he suggested, trying to infuse some cheer into his voice. Together, they walked back to the festival, their hands intertwined.

And as they stepped into the lively atmosphere of the festival, Alpha Charles stole a glance at Queen Maya. Unnoticed by her, he observed the radiant smile on her face.

There was love in her eyes for the packmates, a genuine happiness that was infectious. Seeing the rest of the packmates at the festival, having fun and celebrating, clearly made her happy this Alpha Charles just noticed for himself.

He admired Queen Maya's ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life, her ability to connect with their packmates, and her unwavering love for them was commendable, despite the fact that the packmates don't care so much that she still loves them so much.

With a gentle hand on her back, Alpha Charles guided her through the crowd, as they walked towards his throne, the packmates parting to make way for them. He led her to her seat, at the right hand of his throne.

As Queen Maya took her seat, Alpha Charles breathed in deeply. His mind went back to thoughts of the prophecy which echoed ominously.

The words, "There shall be a night of the dark moon, a pup will be born" and "He will be your downfall, and your doom," reverberated in his head. He closed his eyes, trying to fight off the disturbing thoughts.

Meanwhile, oblivious to the turmoil in Alpha Charles's mind, Queen Maya was lost in the festival's revelry. She was screaming and dancing, she vibrated to every new song the disk jockey tuned. It seemed to inject her with fresh energy, her joy radiating throughout the festival.

Queen Maya turned to look at Alpha Charles and saw him rubbing his hand over his face, as if trying to wipe something away. She squinted, trying to see if there was anything on his face, but there was nothing.

"Charles, what's the matter?" she asked, her voice barely audible over the music.

He started to say something, then stopped, shaking his head. "It's nothing, Maya," he said, his voice barely a whisper.

But Queen Maya wasn't convinced. She knew him too well. "Charles," she said, her voice firm. "Tell me what's wrong."

He was silent for a moment, then suddenly, he raised his voice. "I said it's nothing, Maya!" His voice echoed through the festival grounds, silencing the music and the chatter. Everyone turned to look at them, shocked by the sudden outburst.

Alpha Charles's facial expressions said it all. The discomfort in his eyes after his outburst was a clear indication that something was disturbing him, something he was trying to hide.

Regaining his composure, Alpha Charles turned to the partying packmates. "Why did you all stop? Continue having fun," he commanded, his voice now calm but firm.

At his command, the disk jockey turned the music back on. The packmates resumed their dancing and shouting, the festival coming back to life. But the atmosphere had changed. The joy was now tinged with a hint of unease.

Queen Maya, however, had her eyes focused on Alpha Charles. She was trying to understand what was bothering him. She wanted to ask, to offer her support, but she held back. She didn't want to provoke another outburst.

So, she watched him from the corner of her eye, her mind filled with worry and confusion.

Again, she saw him fighting with his thoughts, closing his eyes and opening them. It was clear that something was bothering him deeply.

Then, Queen Maya did something very brave. She rested her hand on Alpha Charles's chest, her wolf eyes meeting his. She tried to communicate with him through their mind link, trying to pry open the door to his thoughts, to understand what was bothering him.

But Alpha Charles blocked her. He breathed out heavily, with the force of his mental block as strong as the force he used to push her away from his thoughts. It was clear that he didn't want her to know what was troubling him.

Queen Maya was taken aback by his reaction. She had expected resistance, but not this much. She realized that whatever was bothering Alpha Charles, it was something he was not ready to share, not even with her.

This made Queen Maya really mad. She got up from beside Alpha Charles and walked away, her feet stamping hard on the floor. She was heading towards Luna's room, her mind a whirlwind of emotions.

On her way, she accidentally hit one of the bartenders who was carrying a tray of drinks for some of the big community people who were werewolves. The drinks spilled, drawing the attention of them. They turned to look at her, their faces morphing into scary expressions. They moved towards her with speed, their sharp wolf teeth and claws out.

One of them glanced at the throne, locking eyes with Alpha Charles. Seeing the threat to Queen Maya, Alpha Charles transformed into his wolf form. He let out a low growl, the growl echoed through the festival grounds.

At the sound of Alpha Charles's growl, the packmates immediately calmed down. They shifted back to their human forms, their scary expressions replaced with ones of fear and respect. The festival continued, but again the atmosphere was not the same.

The night was still young, and the festival was far from over.

When everyone at the festival had gone back to their celebration, Alpha Charles found himself unable to shake off his worries.

He watched as Queen Maya disappeared into the Luna's room, her anger evident in her every step.

Deep down he wanted to make things right, but he was also aware that he couldn't share his fears about the prophecy with her, not yet.

Just as he was about to follow her, a sudden, eerie howl echoed through the night. The loud sound of music playing in the background stopped, in the ears of Alpha Charles and he froze, his eyes wide with fear. He felt a chill run down his spine. The howl was unlike anything he had heard before.

He turned towards the direction of the howl, his wolf instincts kicking in. His eyes widened as he saw a figure emerging from the shadows, its eyes glowing in the dark.

The figure was unfamiliar, and there was something about it that made Alpha Charles's heart beat really fast.
