Chapter 16: The Picture
POV Yang:
It shouldn't take us long to unpack, put everything away, and decorate the room to our liking.
First, we put up our room decorations. Weiss put up her painting again, I put up my Achieve Men poster, Rubes suspended a sheet over her bed with rope and attached the red drapes to the window, Blake set up her many books, and Sapph put a framed picture on her desk.
We then moved on to store our clothes in the closet. The closet is rather similar to the one in the old dorm, but this one has five sections instead of four. We had each picked a section, and stored our clothes there. Weiss had by far the most clothes, and she basically filled her section. Weiss's hanging racks, drawers, and shelves were neatly filled. Then came me and my sister, with ours about half full. We each had two pairs of shoes, and enough clothes to last a couple of weeks without having to do a load of laundry. Blake had about half of the amount we had. She has enough clothes to last a week, a few more days if the uniform was counted, and two pairs of shoes. Lastly, Sapph's contained barely anything. She had one set of comfortable clothes, likely to sleep in, one set of exercise clothes, and the uniforms.
After that was putting away toiletries in the bathroom. The bathroom was the same as the one from our old dorm. There is a large shower in the far left corner of the room, and on the wall next to it is a towel rack with shelving above it to store shower supplies, like soap, shampoo, and conditioner. With this everyone had rather high-quality products, even Ruby as I had drilled into her that it's important not to damage your hair and skin with low-quality trash. There is a medicine cabinet with five shelves that we used to store teeth hygiene and beauty products. The handsoap and floormats were provided by the school and were already here.

After we put all our stuff away, Ruby went to go inform the dorm manager that we have finished moving rooms, and Weiss went for a walk. Blake went to go take a final sweep of the old dorm in case we forgot anything, and I just lay on my bed with nothing to do.
After a while, I watched Sapph walk into the closet and come out with her uniform. She walks over to her bed and sets them down. It seems that she has decided to change.

She slipped on her thigh highs while sitting on her bed.
She then looked up and smiled at me.
"You've been staring at me for a while now. Is there something you need?" She asked me.
"Hahaha… No, but I must say, with your looks, I bet any boy would come after you if they had the chance," I Awkwardly laugh and then change the subject.
"Hmm? Well maybe, but I don't swing that way," She informed noncommittedly.
"Huh? You're gay?" I ask surprised.
"Yes…. will that be a problem," She replies a little guarded.
"Huh? Oh. Oh, no. I have no problem with that It just shocked me is all," I defend myself.
"That's good, Weiss hating me is already enough, I'd rather you not as well," She said with a relieved smile.
Some silence hangs in the air, and as I try to think of something else to talk about, I look at the picture she put on the bookshelf.
"What's in the picture?" I ask as to get rid of this awkward silence.
"Hmm? Oh, this. It's a picture of my family," She says with an unreadable expression and picks up the framed photo.
Hearing that I become curious. None of us had any chance to get to know our new teammate yet, and I figured this is a way to start.
I get up off my bed and sit next to Sapph. She notices this and moves her hand to let me get a better look at the picture. On the picture are twelve smiling children that were all wearing the same weird white clothes.
"You have a big family," I say, as that is a lot of siblings to have. I don't ask about the obvious lack of parents because that is likely a sore spot, and I don't want to upset her.
"Haha, no blood relation. We were just the closest things any of us ever had to a family," She says with a nostalgic smile.
"Oh, who are they?" I ask curiously.
"Oh well, The long brown-haired human with brown eyes is Bran. He used to act so tough, but he was a cry baby. Every time he had a nightmare, he would come to me for a lullaby. He always said my voice kept the monsters away," She spoke with nostalgia.
"He sounds cute," I say with a smile. That reminds me of how Ruby would come sleep with me when she had nightmares. She was so cute.
"Yeah… Oh, and the cat Faunus with white hair and deep blue eyes. That is Han. We used to call him ice king. He always acted so cold toward everyone, but that was just a front. He was actually really kind, and he would act like a big brother to the others even if he tried to play it off as troublesome," She introduced.
"Hehe, he sounds funny," I laughed. I couldn't help it. The image of a kid running around and acting like a tsundere was too much.
"Hehe, no doubt... The platinum-haired human girl with pink eyes is Tina. She's blind. She used to be so curious about everything. She'd ask me questions all the time and would be so bubbly after receiving an answer."
"She sounds absolutely adorable," I praise. She reminds me of how Ruby would act when I used to read her stories.
"And this cat Faunus here with the white hair and amber eyes, her name is Snow. She didn't show many emotions, but that didn't mean she didn't have them. She was just scared. Her semblance ran according to her emotions, and she felt that she'd hurt someone if she didn't keep them in check. I used to hold her when it was too much and just let her fall asleep in my arms," She says a little sad.
"Poor girl," I said. I remember when I used to think like that. My semblance runs off of my anger. I can and have hurt people because of it.
"Then there's Onyx, the black-haired human with black eyes. He was always so cocky. He would never admit he couldn't do something regardless of the circumstances. He may have acted like that, but his kindness was bottomless. No matter what someone would need he would go out of his way to help," She said with some pride.
"He sounds both troublesome and delightful," I say with complicated feelings.
"The dark-skinned bunny Faunus with white hair and red eyes, here. Her name is Mazon. She loved to fight. She was always challenging others to fights, and whenever she lost I comforted her so she would stop crying," She says with a chuckle.
"Hehe, she sounds troublesome," I comment with a laugh.
"Yeah, but she was family nonetheless. The next one here is me," She says.
"You look so young, how old were you?" I ask genuinely curious.
"I was ten, There was a difference between month and day but all of us were the same age. Anyway, This pink-haired boy with purple eyes, here. He is Lave. He used to wear my clothes any chance he got. He said he liked dressing up as a girl," She said with a smile.
"Huh? I thought he was a girl," I said.
"Hehe, you weren't the only one. This black-haired monkey Faunus, here. His name is Shade, but he was a ball of sunshine. There was rarely a day when he couldn't be found smiling. When I was feeling down he would never fail to make me smile," she says as her smile grows a little.
"Hehe, he reminds me of Ruby," I state.
"This purple-haired human girl here is Vi. She's a sarcastic little one. Her words were sharp and witty, but that was a wall. You see she was good friends with a girl, and she died because of her actions. She pushed people away because she didn't want to make that mistake again," She said with sadness.
"Oh…..," That hit too close to home.
"This ivory-haired girl with blue eyes may not look like it but she is a white tiger Faunus. Her name is Ivory. She was outgoing, smart, and strong, but she couldn't sleep alone. Whenever possible she would sneak into my bed and have me cuddle her," She says with some nostalgia.
"Hehe," I just laugh.
"And the last one here, with black hair and red eyes is Ebon. She was always so clingy. She was practically glued to my side, even as she fell asleep she would hold onto me. She was so cute, and I could never say no to her," She said.
"It sounds like you spoiled her," I reply with a chuckle.
"Yeah…. I miss them," she replies with a sigh.
"Oh, homesick already? It'll be fine. You can visit them over break," I say to alleviate her sadness.
"I wish I could, but I'm afraid that that won't be possible," She said and I saw drops fall onto the picture frame.
"They are not here anymore, they're gone," She gets out while continuously losing composure.
"Shit, Sorry I-," I try to apologize as I had stepped on a landmine, but I am interrupted by Sapph.
"They were the world to me! Why!?" She is full-on bawling now as she hugs the picture.
"I do-," I once again try to speak and am interrupted.
"It should've been me! Why wasn't it me instead!" She yelled as she sobbed.
Instead of words I just bring her into a hug, and she goes silent for a second before once again sobbing. This time however she wrapped her arms, still holding the picture, around me and pushed her face into my neck.
My shoulders grow wet as she desperately clings to me. I just sit there and hold her tightly, as I hear sobbing in my ear. Her desperation eventually calms and her sobs quiet. Her breathing grows stable as she seems to have fallen asleep, but her grip does not loosen.
"Haah," I sigh
I don't want to wake her, so I carefully reach down and take off my shoes. I then lay down with her still holding onto me, and reach behind my back. I grab the picture frame that she has in her hand and carefully remove it. This seems to cause disturbance as she flails her arm a bit before tightening her hold on me. I set the picture on the bookshelf behind me, and return to holding her.
I close my eyes, and after a while, I fall asleep.

TheGrandLabyrinth I was planing on this being more than just Yang's POV, but then I realized that it's 8 a.m., and I've been writing all night.
