Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - Getting Started

Standing in front of the man a portal that could fit even a Ghast towered over him. Around him the dark teal and black mosses that grew around made him feel uneasy within this forgotten city. Made of dark stones in an architecture unlike any he saw before upon the surface it all held great riches but maybe this was his greatest hope.

It had been years since he woke up in this world, left to his own devices he endured and survived without ever even knowing his name. Giving himself one still felt wrong, like abandoning his own life because judging by the natives of this world he must have been an infant at one point.

Yet he had no knowledge of his name, who he was or what he was. He was like the natives or better known as 'Villagers' yet he looked so much different. All of them only ever differed between gender and each other in subtle ways, an almost constructed consistency like the ruins he found across the world.

It all felt wrong. Like it was a template that was put down over and over again. But there was no point worrying about that. He travelled through rifts made of obsidian into the depths of fire and netherack to challenge a dragon. Oddly enough those dimensions were easier to find than digging past the boundaries of deepslate and reaching these depths.

Another thing he never understood was the innate ability to create. To break and build yet every tool he held with a material it was almost terrifying how intuitively he could create. Regardless this towering behemoth of a moss ridden portal stood before him and at his side to what he assumed was its mechanism he installed a lever.

Not yet even daring to say his goodbyes because of the beast that roams these depths he put a grin on his face as he flipped the switch.

A low hum rang out and a wave of energy shocked through him making him feel sick. Before him it stood there a dark swirling void he was all too familiar with from the End but the stars that danced in its dark seemed so enticing.

That awe was snapped from him as the sound of ground breaking could be heard metres from him. The heavy growling of the predator, a horned giant with a gut built like a bony cage for the lives it must have taken… The Warden.

Hastily he ran into the portal with that sickening feeling in his stomach as he heard the sound of its echoing screech. Then it hit him as he stood in the portal, the jolting force making him throw up but the portal clung to his body like a cobweb not letting him go as he heard it rushing and then the dark swallowed his vision.

============================================================

Waking up on the ground his eyes were immediately seared by the brightness of the sun. Around him the world still looked the same, the same forests and soil. Nothing really seemed to have changed.

"Was it just a route to the surface?" He gritted his teeth as he threw his sword into the ground and sat down disgruntled.

Coughing he tasted the blood in his mouth as he pulled out an apple embellished in a thin veil of gold and began to eat the whole thing. His stomach felt a little better and the bloody taste lingering disappeared. Taking a deep breath he got back up and stashed away his helmet tired of the weight it pressed against his head.

Looking around he took out his compass and grimaced. This was definitely a different dimension from how his compass spun erratically but other than that it all looked the same.

"Well, it's a new dimension. But what's it's gimmick?" He muttered, glancing around. The Nether was always on fire and the End was encompassed by the void. Another thing he had to take into account was the risk of hostile creatures. Hopefully it was nothing too extreme and if they only appeared at night that would be better.

So getting off the coarse soil beneath him he looked around the trees and smiled. At least now he knew how to build a house.

Taking what he assumed to be the remainder of the day he fully cleared about a thirty by thirty block area and began to build himself a home. Thankfully the trees were as generic as they came and made a wood that was a slightly darker tone of oak but not quite dark oak. Regardless he hastily put together essentially a small fort building a wooden perimeter wall around two blocks high and fencing across the top with a centre entrance into the fort being fenced off. Then he built his house across the back wall and managed to get it done before nightfall. As the sun began to set he laid in bed and then he felt the sudden chill that always told him the same story.

You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby…

Tensing up he put his armour back on and grabbed his bow he lovingly named 'Apollo' after a book he found in an abandoned village library when he was pi-....borrowing what was left for his own home.

Notching an arrow he stood outside as the tip of the arrow glowed a faint red and flared up. Climbing the ladder he got to the top he built to overview the general area. Directly atop his home and about ten blocks high he looked around the area muttering mild curses of forgetting to plant torches around the area. Looking to the South and East edges of his fort that were closer to the forest he saw in the thickets of leaves and fauna flecks of red and white.

"Skeletons and Spiders?" Muttering to no one but himself he readied his bow. Then it dawned that the overlapping red and white seemed to not be quite right. 'Either they're jockeys or these are something new.'

Quickly putting away the arrow that snuffed itself out he looked to see the creatures. Yet they seemed to not stray close to the light of the torches patiently wading around the perimeter.

Now as a rational person he should have done the logical thing of waiting and seeing if they were neutral or hostile. However, today was a really long day and he needed some sleep. So nocking back the arrow he aimed for the white fleck as the arrow flared drawing the growls of these monsters and he let the arrow fly.

Soaring through the air the creature seemed to sense the danger of the flaming arrow and bolted back with a snarl. Clicking his tongue he pulled another back as he saw them begin to step into the light and his only reaction was…

"Ender…Wolves?" He looked at the peculiarity. Sleek black fur and red eyes with what seemed to be bones jutting out of its form and a skull for a mask. The pitch black ink tone was reminiscent of the Endermen but they snarled like normal wolves when they got aggressive.

Sighing if the fact they looked like wolves meant anything, it did mean he should not have attacked them. But regardless he was still going to have to kill them.

The sudden speed as the creatures charged forward would have startled him if he had not gotten used to that mishap with the Speed III potion and silverfish…he shuddered recalling that hell.

They dug into the walls of the fort and he smiled.

"Dumb mutts." His bow sent arrows flying into their skulls as the flame unravelled and ignited them like a fiery blanket. Their screams fill the night. Each arrow was like a lead weight slamming them into the ground and bounding back.

The small pack of four snapped at him as they tried to circle his fort but for a man that had hunted a dragon these wolves were easy targets once they stepped into the clearer light.

Disgruntled he was pressed by just how many arrows it took and the fact his fort now had gaping holes in it. The creatures poofed into a familiar black smoke but dropped glimmers of experience all the same. Too tired he barely got the house repaired by the middle of the night and slumped into bed till dawn.
