Chapter 57: Who Are You?

"Aww, they are so cute…" Rose muttered with her full attention on the two furballs sitting on her lap.

They cuddled into Rose's palms, demanding to pats and as a result, Ryan was left alone. He couldn't help but feel threatened by the two hidden dangers, so he reminded of his existence. Laying his head on her shoulder, Ryan snuggled into her neck, finally regaining some attention.

"It's bizarre how smart they are. Whatever I tell them, they act as if they understood everything," Rose pointed out as she leaned on him as well.

"That's indeed weird. What if they are not normal cats but instead a pair of magical creatures?" Ryan suggested while observing the two cats to see if they would react to his comment, but instead, they laid comfortably to rest.

Mrrrrr…

Both murmured from Rose's gentle scratches, clearly enjoying it.

Even though they didn't react, Rose did. If there were Vampires in this world, why wouldn't other creatures exist as well? The idea of the two cats being magical creatures matched well with their abilities.

After all, which cat could speak human language and even lead the way for you without knowing your plans.

"Even if they were, I don't think they have any ill intentions. They seem friendly," Rose stated, gazing at the cats.

"That's the point. They look cute and approachable, but deep down can be dangerous. You never know," Ryan warned with a shrug.

The lingering alarming feeling inside him never ceased. Whenever he looked at the cats, all he could think was danger.

Too bad, his mom couldn't know that and countered playfully, "Are you only saying that because you are jealous of them? Do you want Rose to pet you on the lap as well?"

Ryan only rolled his eyes, knowing full well she was just baiting him. He fell into her traps too many times in his life.

Hearing no comment from him, she only smirked and informed, "We are reaching home soon. Don't sleep."

Looking out of the window, Ryan confirmed it, recognizing the familiar neighborhood. It has been a while since he has been back home, usually coming over for holidays.

Gardens surrounded their stand-alone house, the whole land being the only thing his grandma left them. She used to live with them ten years ago only to disappear completely, moving out of the country.

"So this is the place you grew up… Looks nice," Rose commented as she finally stopped playing with cats, shifting her focus to look around.

They were driving inside their property, surrounded by countless colorful flowers and trimmed trees. In terms of the house itself, it was mostly old-fashioned, nowhere near the modern Rose's house.

"It's okay but can't compare to yours," Ryan replied casually to which Rose quickly disagreed. "What are you talking about? Look at this garden, all those flowers. If I were you, I would spend most of my time outside, reading books while surrounding myself with nature."

"Well, you can do it now."

Seeing his dad standing in front of the house to greet them, he nudged Rose with the shoulder and pointed at him with his gaze. "That's my dad."

Rose tensed up, but Ryan could tell she was much more confident compared to before.

"Don't worry. My father is all jokes. Similar to my mom," Ryan whispered, not letting his mom hear it.

He liked his father as he was very similar to himself, both in mind and appearance. Ryan already expected what would be his reaction when he sees the two new members of their family.

"Did you actually buy cats? There is absolutely no way those two will stay at our house," Ryan's father immediately protested when two cats walked out of the car, looking around as if to check their new home.

"Oh, shut it, will you. How about you greet your future daughter-in-law instead?"

Ryan's father changed his expression when he heard his wife, gazing at Rose, who just came out of the car.

He was stunned, looking at Ryan and his wife back and forth as if to check if they were for real.

"Good afternoon, Sir. I'm Rose, Ryan's girlfriend," Rose introduced herself first, bowing respectfully.

Only then did he react, questioning Rose confused, "Good afternoon… Are you sure they didn't kidnap you from some modeling show? Blink once if you need help."

Yup… I knew it.

His parents were just too predictable.

Ryan approached Rose to help her, but then she hugged him first, explaining, "No Sir, no one kidnapped me. I came here on my own. If we were to go back in time, it was me who approached him first."

"Haha," Ryan's father burst out laughing. "The history likes to repeat itself. My wife was also the one that flirted with me firs—"

Too bad he wasn't able to finish as his wife approached, stabbing him in the side with her finger. "Are you going to help with groceries or stand here talking nonsense? We will talk inside as we prepare dinner."

Ryan's father pretended to be hurt and muttered, "Can you see what I have to deal with daily? She is such a bully. I hope you can be better for Rya— Au, au, au!"

In the end, Ryan's mom lost patience as she dragged her man towards the car, pulling on his ear. Rose couldn't help but giggle at that sight, looking at Ryan in wonder.

"Do you think we will be like this when we grow up?"

Ryan squeezed on her waist and embraced her before replying, "I want to say yes, but I doubt you dare. If you pull on my ear like this, I would punish you later."

Checking where his parents are, she leaned over to his ear and pulled it with her teeth.

"Will I get punished if I pull it like this?"

Just as he wanted to tease her back, Rose escaped while smiling playfully and ran over to his parents. "Please, let me help."

Ryan already imagined how he would punish her later at night, but he couldn't help but be happy that she was more open and bold with him. He found that attractive as he loved bantering.

Ryan's father naturally didn't let her carry any groceries, taking all the bags by himself, so Rose focused on the cats instead.

"Emily! Isabella!" Rose called out the cat's names, but only the black one, Emily, arrived on the first call. The other one was still wandering in the garden, not reacting.

"I will bring it back," Ryan volunteered, taking this chance to calm down his mind. He wouldn't be able to relax until he confirms the two cats were not dangerous to them.

Without waiting for her permission, he walked into the garden, approaching the cat. Isabella was smelling flowers one by one but turned around when she sensed his presence.

She looked at him as if trying to ask why he was disturbing her, so he went straight to the point.

"I know you are not a normal cat. Who are you?"

He expected her to come out, speak with the human voice, and explain her intentions, but it seemed his imagination failed him.

Meow~

Isabella only called out cutely and walked in between his legs like a typical cat. She returned to Rose without giving any signs, making him ultimately confused.

One thing he knew for sure.

He would not ignore his instincts.

———

"Stop!"

Two police officers aimed their guns at the black-cloaked individual. Only when their guns clicked did the man stop. The residents reported him, so they arrived to check on him. No matter how many times they tried to stop him, he didn't react, continuing to walk around the neighborhood.

"Turn around and show your face!"

The suspect turned around, but he didn't uncover his hood and instead laughed.

"Haha, you humans are so weak. No strength what so ever, only hiding behind your pitiful guns. Do you think I'm scared? Come on, shoot me if you dare," the suspect taunted, not even bothered by them.

"If you don't drop on your knees, we will—" The policeman warned, but the suspect cut him off, "You will what? Shoot me? I already said I don't care."

Confusion filled the policemen's faces. How were they supposed to handle someone who wasn't scared of dying, daring them to kill him? Do they just shoot him or what?

"I see you two are still beginners. Let's play a game then. Can I reach you before you kill me? Let try," the suspect proposed and began walking towards the police car.

Bang! Bang!

They finally couldn't handle the pressure and pulled the trigger, afraid of the man. Two bullets hit him in the chest, but to their surprise, the man continued to walk forward as if nothing happened.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullet after a bullet fired, but the man kept walking. They thought he had a bullet vest underneath his cloak, but shooting in the legs changed nothing.

He slowly approached them and grabbed their guns, breaking them in half. They tried to run but suddenly felt like they couldn't move.

"I guess I win," the black-cloaked man commented, throwing the guns on the ground.

The two policemen were too scared to even say anything. Who could break a gun with their bare hands? They were sure the man would kill them, but he suddenly walked away, leaving them alone.

"Boring. Let's go, Balthazar, we have a mission to complete."
