Chapter 2: Inkopolis

I feel my bed vibrate, while the light pulses in my eyes.

"Wh-wha-what?" I mumble.

Then, slowly, the ever so annoying

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

begins to get louder, as the sound comes to my long pointy, elf-like, ears.

I moan, knowing that this means I have to get up for the day.

I slam my hand on the clock, concluding the loud noises that emitted from the small object, and began to roll out of bed, and clean the slobber off of my chin.

It was unusual for someone in the orphanage to have their own room, but the other kids learned the hard way that they should respect my privacy.

I look out the large glass window, and see the small town that I lived in.

Sea Arrowin.

It's about 2 hours south of Inkopolis, the world's greatest city. Anyone who's anyone would do anything to live there, and luckily they're given the option to. Inkopolis only accepts inklings with the greatest potential, stamina, and overall skill. They need to make sure that the squid-kids who participate in Turf War are strong enough to do so. Luckily, because us inklings are born naturally strong, and with barely any weight to hold us down, because we have no bones, we are quick and strong. And we're even quicker and stronger when we're in squid form. Inkopolis only accepts the best of the best, but it isn't too hard to do so, I think- well, I hope. I'd do anything to live there, and not in this small town.

People tell me that I am very social, and I make friends easily, so I think I'd be living better in a bigger society.

"Faith!" a voice yelled.

I jumped at the sound, "Ah, um- yes?"

"Are you going to stare out that window all day, or actually get ready?" the stern voice of the woman who ran the orphanage rung through the halls as she yelled at me, "Are you going to come downstairs and package the boxes for the ink guns or what?"

I forgot to mention, if you don't live in Inkopolis, you have to work in the orphanage, and package weaponry and clothing. We never know when another Great Turf War will pop up again. It's even more saddening, knowing that literally everyone outside of Inkopolis lives in the orphanage. Inklings don't get to know their parents, and are sent to the orphanage with no knowledge of what background we're from. We're kind of like- what do you humans call it again- oh, hippies. We believe in fate and equality, so everyone is raised in the same child labor-esq fashion.

"Ms. Durstock, I think you forgot, I don't have to do that today." I declared awkwardly, looking down at my phone to check.

"And why is that?" she asked, her bony arms crossing.

"I'm going to Inkopolis today to be tested." I announced excited, bouncing up and down and pointing a peace sign at her.

"Why are you dancing like a cosplayer? It's just testing, there's practically no way a slacker like you will ever get in." the woman said with a sigh.

"That's why I have my name. Faith. My parents had FAITH in me, and so do I." I retorted with a chuckle.

"Seriously?" a girl behind Ms. Durstock said, "Faith, come on."

"You're released from work today, but don't let me catch anyone else pulling this charade tomorrow, and you have to be back here by 9." Ms. Durstock announced, "If you don't follow either of these rules, there will be serious consequences."

"Yes, Ma'm." I replied, flicking my wrist as I swayed my short lavender hair.

"Good." Ms. Durstock announced, "Now get out of this establishment within ten minutes."

I jumped to move forward, and began to grab my clothes from the drawers as Ms. Durstock left the room.

I slipped into a grey sweatshirt and black shorts, loosely tied my brown worker boots, and walked out of the door.

"Bye, Faith." a girl said, standing by my door, leaning against the wall and crossing her arms.

"Oh, bye." I responded, waving cheerfully, and bouncing with every step I took.

I slid down the staircase, and ran out of the door.

"Miss Faith, you have to do some-"

"I'll do it later!" I yelled to Ms. Durstock.

"But you-"

"But I'm LATE! I have to go, bye!" I shouted, sprinting out into the busy streets of Sea Arrowin.
