Chapter 19: The Fight

Master Jäger stepped forward from the crowd and started his announcement to the crowd.

He, first of all, introduced Jason as someone who wanted to be taught by the dojo and that the fight that was about to happen was his combat test to determine if he was worthy.

Everyone stayed quiet and listened but they pretty much got all they needed from the first bit of information that master Jäger started with.

Almost everybody in the crowd had been through a similar test after all so they were familiar with the process.

The introductions continued on with a few more words for Jason being brought in by Felicia herself.

Then switching to Jason's opponent, not much was said about him since he was a disciple of the dojo but a basic intro was given for the sake of Jason.

The youth standing opposite Jason was the youngest of master Jäger's personal disciples.

The personal disciples differed from the normal dojo trainees as they are taught more special skills and secret techniques personally by master Jäger. They are essentially the carriers of his legacy while the rest are just trainees he empowers with basic skills.

Back to the youth, he was the youngest disciple to join the dojo and has been learning from master Jäger for just upwards of two years.

By virtue of the time he joined and being the youngest, it stands to reason that he was the weakest of all personal disciples so it made him the perfect fit for a more even test of skills.

Jason at this point in the introductions was keeping a calm look on his face but was internally kind of furious.

He thought that he was being taken as a joke by sending the weakest disciple to fight with him.

He knew his thoughts were unreasonable but couldn't help but feel insulted. His pride in his strength did not allow him to see anyone apart from master Jäger as a match for himself hence the disappointment in his mind.

Inwardly deflated from his excitement, he just wanted the match to hurry up and begin so that he could end it quickly.

Then maybe they would take him seriously and at least send someone stronger.

He even hoped that master Jäger would step in at that time if he was fast enough.

Master Jäger had just finished his introductions when Jason finished organizing his thoughts.

"Alright boys, the rules are simple for this fight. Don't go too heavy and by that I mean don't cripple your opponent and don't hit vital spots. Other than that, I need to see the absolute best from both of you. This is an assessment after all so showing me what you can do would be enough."Master Jäger addressed the two fighters.

"Get ready!!!." He barked as he backed into the crowd a bit.

The whole place had gone silent as both fighters took their stance and prepared for the fight.

Jason was a newbie to martial arts fights, he didn't really have a stance to rely on so he went for the basic boxing posture to start off with.

Although whether his form was correct or not was a different matter altogether.

"Let the match begin!!!!" Master Jäger roared to get the fight started.

Both fighters immediately rushed at each other as they went for a straightforward clash with different thoughts to it.

Jason was of the mind that his strength was superior enough to just end it in one hit as he did with Antonio in the gym so he went for an all-out punch at the start.

Meanwhile, the disciple was thinking that testing the waters would be a good idea so he held back a little as he wanted preliminary information on his opponent's strengths.

The two clashed straightforwardly with the expected outcome being the case.

Jason won out in the clash as he sent the disciple back about three steps.

Of course, the disciple could mitigate most of the punch strength because he didn't use all his strength and was more cautious for the first clash.

Jason's thoughts were churning but it was mostly about how his punch wasn't able to finish off his opponent quickly.

He quickly summarised that his opponent was just stronger than Antonio and that's why he could take the punch albeit still losing out in the clash.

He simply thought a few more clashes like that would easily take him out of the fight so he wasn't discouraged and thought proudly about his assessment of the situation.

Meanwhile, the disciple got all the information he needed about Jason in that first clash.

First, he knew that Jason's strength was way better than his. Going head-on against Jason would always lead to him being on the losing end of the trade

Second, Jason was an absolute newbie. To him, anyone slightly trained in martial arts with Jason's strength should have won the match with the first clash easily.

It was clear to him that Jason did not know how to use his strength properly in a fight.

That combined with the fact that Jason had the advantage but didn't press him on to keep his strength advantage solidified Jason as a noob in his eyes.

In that instant, he came up with many different ways to subdue Jason.

Most of the ways he devised to defeat Jason involved complex movements of martial arts and would definitely work against someone like Jason but he decided to keep things simple.

The disciple went for the simplest way for a martial artist like him to defeat someone like Jason; feints.

Both fighters with their own thoughts once again charged at each other like bulls to continue the fight.

As they got into range of each other, they both threw a straightforward punch once more to the delight of Jason as seen from the smirk on his face.

Only, the smirk vanished almost as quickly as it appeared on his face.

Their punches did not connect as it was only a feint to get the disciple in range to get a kick in.

And he did.

Jason was kicked on his sides as his face showed a slight trace of pain before backing off a bit from the fight.

The young disciple didn't do anything and only stood there and waited for Jason's response.

Jason was pissed off for getting kicked by someone he deemed to be too weak for him.

He charged once again at the disciple looking to grapple him and use his strength to overwhelm him.

The charge was really fast and he opened his arms wide to get him like a tiger pouncing on his prey.

Jason could see victory right in front of him but his victory slipped past him both literally and figuratively.

The young disciple was very flexible as he twisted away from Jason's before landing a solid punch on his back.

Jason missed once again and the worst part to him was that he didn't even get to touch his opponent's clothes.

A punch, a kick, a grapple, a quick jab, Jason tried all those but they were repelled by the disciple and he took a hit every time he missed.

Jason was getting frustrated but increasingly clearheaded.

He didn't let his rage consume him anymore as he backed away slightly to reassess the battle situation and he came up with a chilling summary.

He was losing and losing horribly.

He realized that every since they clashed the first time, he had never been able to land a solid hit on his opponent's body.

Thinking back to the battle moves so far, he couldn't tell how it was happening to him.

By all means, he was faster, stronger, and more agile than his opponent but he still lost in every trade of blows they had.

This made him very uncomfortable at the thought.

He wanted to redeem himself so he decided to fight a more controlled fight.

He wanted to just react to moves and use counter-attacks to break through and finally land a blow on his opponent.

After making his decision, he kept his cool and slowly walked closer to his opponent to stay in range while observing his movements to be able to react quickly to anything.

The young disciple of course saw the change in Jason's fighting tactic.

He knew that that was the best solution Jason could come up with for the fight but nevertheless, he knew it was a useless attempt.

As long as Jason didn't learn about feints and how to identify them quickly in a match, he was destined to lose the match.

The fight went on for a little while longer. It was less one-sided than before as Jason started blocking some of the feints.

But alas, 9 out of 10 of the feints still worked on him and he got hit by the followup attacks.

One could say that Jason was definitely improving and getting better, but it didn't matter for the fight as he couldn't land one hit on his enemy.

The match quickly came to a conclusion as master Jäger ended it after seeing all that he needed to see.

"Alright that's enough boys, the match is over. Get back to your corners." Master Jäger shouted to stop the fight.
