Prologue
The attack was too fast for Harou.
He stumbled backward over roots and yelped as his side bashed into a tree trunk. [What's with this pain… I think I broke something.] He howled and released a shockwave. The surrounding fog withdrew as his attacker anchored its paws into the ground, and withstood the wave. Swiftly without remorse or mercy, the attacker pounced and swiped razor-sharp paws at anything it could get in contact with. Its glowing eyes pierced Harou's soul as its bloody teeth snapped for his throat. Harou swiftly side stepped and countered, slashing at its neck. The attacker recoiled in anger and pounced once again, smashing into Harou's ribcage, pinning down Harou. Harou kicked with his hind legs, launching the attacker off.
The attacker rolled and instantly recovered its battle stance,「Cease the meaningless resistance, Harou.」
Harou coughed up blood,「The clan won't tolerate this, Zylo.」Harou steadily stood up and took a defensive stance.
「The clan?」Zylo let out a laugh-like howl.
「This is the clan's will, Harou.」
Harou resolve wavered, 「Im- Impossible. Why would the clan..」 [It can't be. Why would they betray me?]
「You're past your expiration date, Alpha. You are weak.」
The strong killed and used the weak. It was how a species evolved and survived. It's a kill or be killed world, and Zylo knew that. Harou has barely been able to defend himself against his attacks. Even if Zylo ambushed him, Harou hasn't been able to put up much of a fight and got easily overwhelmed. However, Harou was fighting two battles, one with Zylo and one with himself. He was too shocked about his clan's betrayal, to focus on Zylo.
「It's over Harou, perish」
Zylo started emitting an intense heat from his mouth, flames flickering deep inside. Zylo's black fur started waving. Shockwaves pulsed out of his mouth. Harou started to feel heavy, every passing second strength diminished. Every second, his pain amplified as the waves gained strength and the air currents slashed and scratched.. Blood trailed down his arms. Harou groaned in pain.
It never occurred to Harou before now, he might die. He was bathed in his own blood. His once mystical white fur was tainted red. This isn't how he planned to go out. He knew his time was coming to an end. The shockwave exerted powerful pressure. Exhaustion ate away at his legs. They were on the brink of giving out. His vision started getting blurry. Harou slowly started collapsing, unable to resist the shockwaved.
Zylo's mouth radiated intense heat. The surrounding fog started to steam. The flames grew brighter and denser. His black fur was coated in a crimson aura.
「Goodbye, brother.」
Zylo released the flames.
Then Harou lost consciousness.
