There stood Seraphina Nightshade alongside her four companions, Elizabeth, Catherine, Edward, and Charles. The year was 1214, precisely when Seraphina had recently celebrated her thirteenth birthday, just like her four friends. It was a mandated decree that upon reaching the age of thirteen, all individuals were summoned to the town hall for the elemental assignment. In total, there were seven elements to be bestowed. The first was fire, followed by water and its accompanying ice, then came nature. After nature, there was light. Shortly after, the ominous arrival of dark magic, with its tales of danger, left the young teens hoping they wouldn't be chosen. That's when the hunters emerged, possessing extraordinary skills and mastery of weapons. Fire, water, ice, nature, light, dark magic, hunters – these were the known paths. However, there was one path that didn't align with any element, a place of powerlessness and humiliation. It was a fate everyone prayed to avoid.
Now, let me explain how it all worked. Even if both of your parents hailed from the ice realm and you were raised there, your elemental affinity remained unknown until the age of thirteen. That's when you ventured to the town hall, and a drop of your blood would be tested in water. If the water turned a light blue hue, it meant you possessed the power of ice. If it turned dark blue, then water was your element. A red hue indicated fire, green represented nature, brown signified the path of the hunter, black denoted dark magic, and pure transparency meant you had no elemental affinity. Thus, having an element was not determined by your parents but by your very essence, flowing within your blood.
Seraphina's parents were both connected to nature. Her greatest aspiration was to embrace her affinity for nature. She already sensed it within her being. She nurtured the trees and cherished all things related to nature. Her friends, who also had a connection to nature, hoped to share this bond. In the water realm, people typically possessed dark blue eyes, while those in the ice realm had light blue eyes. Fire realm individuals had red eyes, and those aligned with light had light brown eyes. Dark magic was associated with purple eyes, and hunters were recognized by their dark brown eyes. The powerless, unfortunately, were identified by their black eyes. This system allowed people to discern one's elemental affiliation.
