Chapter 2: Awake again
When Alan woke again on a bed made of straw with rough, pale sheets, he was alone in a small room. He saw few decorations, a small wooden sword hanging on the wall to his left next to the door, covered in dust seemingly forgotten. A bookshelf with a single tattered book, to far away to make out the title, on the wall to his front with a simple desk and chair below it. To the wall on his right was plain with a simple window in the center.
'Thats strange,' Alan thought to himself not remembering the house he was brought into having glass windows. 'the more I think about it I don't remember much at all.'
A knock on the door startled Alan of his thoughts just before it was opened and a bright light caused Alan to look away.
"Oh your awake, good good." said a woman with the most beautiful voice he had ever heard, yet it almost sounded as if many people said the same words at the same time making it hard for him focus.
"Who are you?" Alan said puzzled by the voice still unable to look in that direction due to the intensity of the light.
"I am only here to answer questions you seem to have. The easiest ones first," the voices said, "Your worried you might have died, the answer is yes, tho you are not dead now. This world we are in currently has a force that drifts through the breeze and flows in each and everything, its able if harnessed properly to do great and amazing things, yet slowly corupts the same. Sometimes causing the dead to rise as horrible creatures with no mind that only destroys that which it can not understand. Alas this has not happened to you, for one reason or another the spirit you currently have within your body kept you from dying. Who or what or even from where that spirit originates I do not know."
"Wait I died?" Alan said not keeping up with the voices.
"Of course or I would not be here, I try to repair all broken souls who appear in my home." the voices answered together.
"Your home? This is my room, those are my things." Alan exclaimed.
"Indeed they are and I'm glad you know this each exist in your room but each also represent something by appearing in this room. They each represent potential for your new soul, the book, do you know its title?" she questioned.
"No its too far away for me to read it," Alan said confused.
"The book is titled "Beginning steps to magic" it showing here in this room represents the potential for your mana vessel to be strong. Likely due to having a second spirit inside you body." the voices explained.
"Unlikely, I never could get anything to happen before just Simple magic like everyone can produce. What does the sword mean?" Alan questioned before giving the voices time to respond.
"It usually represents honor, yet it has also been known to shown great strength and skill. Unfortunately it is never both and I can not see which one you might aquire." the voices seemed conflicted in answering that question as if they were worried in which traits Alan would grown into.
Alan still struggling with the many voices he is hearing from this figure he still can't view, slowly started recognizing the voices as people he knows. When at first he discovered this it was the voice of his brother, Steven, when he recognized it his brothers voice faded out. The next one he discovered was the voice of his father ,Jack, like the first it faded out. It was at this time he noticed the light getting dimmer and dimmer as the voices faded out. The next was his mother , Susan, and the one after was that of the healer he heard when he was brought into the house.
"Your starting to accept what is happening to you," the single beautiful voice stated while Alan could hear her standing up and coming towards him. "Wake up" she whispered in Alans face close enough to startle him, gently kissing him as his eyes opened.
