Chapter 2: 1st nightmare

He studied the system for some time, and he was not willing, but he understood what he needed to do. However, it was a whole different matter doing it. From what he gathered from his Dark Souls system, every mob he defeated would become his army.

He could either use their souls to improve his stats or get their weapons in exchange for them. Alternatively, he could gather enough soul fragments to slowly buy a weapon from the shop, which also had an enchantment section that required souls, something he currently lacked.

As he grasped the system, he realized he wouldn't die in the Dark Souls system but would rather lose his souls and return. He had three chances to retrieve his souls after death, making it more forgiving than the game.

It still felt unfair to him to be inside a nightmare spell with a soul grinder system, instead of some golden finger. Despite cursing his luck, he resigned to his fate. This nightmare wouldn't be easy, even though it was his first. He had no chance of beating it with his current skills, and he needed to acquire skills from the Dark Souls system.

His plan was to go into the Dark Souls system, fight mobs until he had enough souls to raise his stats, and ultimately challenge bosses to obtain their weapons.

He needed to choose carefully which weapons he would aim for and how many stats he needed to use them. Time in this nightmare would stop, but the monster waves could happen anytime. He had to get stronger first, and with desperation setting in, he couldn't afford to waste time.

In the small hut made of wood, beautifully built but not his own, he frantically looked around and found a blade. It wasn't a sword but a Kukri-type knife, yet he deemed it enough. His first destination was Limgrave, where he planned to find ruins and eliminate weak, helpless mobs who had given up on life.

As he examined the system, he saw a vast array of places he could go, including challenging god-like Elden Beasts or formidable foes like Slave Knight Gael.

However, those were not options for him at the moment. He was but a mosquito in a sea of powerful boss monsters. His best bet was to find weaker foes to gather his first souls and soul fragments. Steeling his nerves, he selected Limgrave, and as soon as he did, time stopped, and the gate of his hut transformed into a fog door, reminiscent of a boss room. It was a relief from the mind-melting situation. Moving closer to the gate, he vanished into it.

Suddenly, he found himself gazing at the Erdtree in the far distance. The view was amazing, with no one in sight. Recalling that he needed to head to the bridge where he could find easier targets, he started descending the mountain cautiously. His destination was the broken church, but on his way, he encountered numerous sheep. Tempting as it was, he shook off such thoughts and ran until he reached the old church. He was a little tired, but he knew it wouldn't do. Checking his goal, he realized he needed to reach past the hill and go to the road.
