Chapter 143: Chapter 142 - Thinning the herd
Then Violet said, "W-W-Wait, Why are you so strong? Who are you?"
It suddenly clicked with Violet that she was saved with ease from the jaws of those beasts, and it did not seem like Hazel was affected by it. She now knew that Hazel was anything but weak.
Hazel just humphed and said, "I am his little useless pet rabbit, isn't that right?"
Hazel just picked one of the more moderate jokes that they had made about her. Violet and Ellie realized that she had heard them and realizing how much stronger she was compared to them made them embarrassed and somewhat scared. Two also looked at One who had witnessed Hazel's strength and smirked at him, sending a clear message of I told you not to interfere. One clenched his teeth and apologetically looked at Hazel.
Xue was amused and startled by the ability of Aile and Hazel. If before, she had a bit confidence to be able to escape Aile and Hazel, now she was sure that she was outclassed. Xue was glad that these people did not mean her harm, but the situation reminded her of the one that happened 7 years ago. Nonetheless, she stood far away as to not be in anyone's crosshair. She remembered Shadow, the person who she has not been able to meet for a long time due to that irritating Phantom.
Aile noticed the tense situation and said, "Let's get started, this will be tiresome." He knew that Hazel was not going to go too far, but did not want to create more divide among everyone here. He had mostly enjoyed the atmosphere of the group and did not want to change it too much.
Aile then pointed at One and Two, "The two of you will bring a few wolves."
Aile then pointed at Ellie and Violet and said, "The two of you will join them here and kill the wolves. Also, I do not want to end up stopping my mission and babysitting both of you back to Port Kiar. Hence you better show me a better performance then what just happened."
Xue came and said, "What about us?" She had realized that Aile was giving her face in front of her people, but here she was somewhat ignored. She, of course, did not want to order Aile's people around now.
Aile looked at her and said, "Do as you please, if you want to fight, then join them, if you want to rest, you can do that too."
She nodded and stood away with the scout that had come to this side.
One and Two immediately went towards the wolves, and Ellie and Violet had their hands rolled into fists. They did not want to be seen as useless, especially now after they had been calling Hazel that. In just a matter of minutes, they had metaphorically been slapped in the face. Even worst, their lofty position that they thought they had, it had turned into a complete joke. Although they could not do anything about what happened, they believed that, at least, being able to protect themselves, will give them some face. As such, they did not loiter around and were ready for the wolves to come.
As they were preparing Hazel arrived next to Aile.
Aile said, "Are you satisfied?"
"You are just punishing them like this so that I do not retaliate... But you know, they have to understand what to do and what not to. If I was someone else what would happen to the four of them. They are acting like rich-young masters. We can not let them act like this, especially now, whether it is Port Kiar or any other place, we already have many people to deal with..."
Aile pondered about what Hazel said and nodded, "You are right, we have to break their superior facade."
Aile then pulled Hazel into his embrace and said, "Come and stay with me, my little rabbit." Aile then sat on the ground and made Hazel sit on his lap. She nuzzled into him but kept her eyes on the fight.
Then began a long process of thinning the herd of the wolves. The first time, One and Two were followed by 6 wolves. One and Two took on three wolves and let Ellie and Violet take the other three. One wolf fought Violet, and one Ellie and the other one did not join immediately. It was waiting for an opportunity to finish one of them. Seeing the situation, they did not hold back. Violet used her lightning element, the same as Hunter, as a surprise attack and paralyzed the beast for a second. In the little time that the wolf was frozen, she hit the wolve a couple of times crippling it. After the wolf was severely injured, she was gaining advantage slowly.
Ellie, who had seen her lightning element, reverted her voice to her original and asked, "Is that you?"
Violet was surprised to hear Ellie's voice and said in her genuine voice, "Yeah, it is me." As she recognized her. She too was surprised but now was not the time to catch up.
They did not dwell on it too much, and instead of fighting them separately now, they joined forces and fought. As they had previous fighting experience with each other, they battled synergically. They were much better at dispatching the three together. After a few minutes, they victoriously looked at each other and then looked at One and Two to showoff their achievement. They had great teamwork and were sure of their triumph. However, once they looked back, they saw that One and Two were not only finished, but they had skinned the wolves and had brought its hide to Aile and Hazel to sit on.
Both of them muttered, "Bootlicking minions."
However, they had not resigned themselves to defeat just yet. Ellie and Violet acknowledged that if they knew each other's identity before, they would have been able to deal with the wolves quicker.
Noticing that Ellie and Violet were done, One and Two stopped glorifying Hazel and went to bring more wolves.
Hazel then said, "I am starting to like these two. They are shameless yet loyal at the same time."
Aile nodded at her and just held her closer into his embrace as it felt right. She adapted to being attached closer to him.
Hazel then continued, "It seems that you also have lost the bet and Two won; those two figured out each other's identity."
Aile lifted his face cover a bit and kissed her on the neck and said, "Thanks to you, he won't dare to ask for compensation now."
Hazel blushed and said, "Stop that, we will be alone by tomorrow, just wait till then."
Ellie and Violet noticed Aile's affectionate behaviour and were further infuriated. Soon after One and Two arrived, this time, they brought 10 wolves. They diverted four to Ellie and Violet, and they fought with the 6 of them.
Ellie and Violet were done and once again looked back. They saw that One and Two had not only finished dealing with six wolves, but they also gathered some firewood and had started a flame. They gritted their teeth this time, it was clearly One and Two's victory. Not only were they fighting more wolves, but they also had enough time after that to gather firewood and start a flame.
Ellie sighed and just said to Violet that, right now, they can not compare to them in strength. Violet nodded unwillingly but told her that at least they should be able to deal with a portion of wolves each time or it would be too embarrassing.
While One and Two allowed the fire to stabilize its temperature, they went and gathered more wolves. They fought 7 wolves, and Ellie and Violet had to face 5. Five wolves seemed to be the limit for them, they could barely handle them together. One and Two also had to put more effort into dealing with the seven wolves.
Xue and the scout were slack-jawed, all the people in Aile's team were monsters. As the best fighter, Xue could barely compare herself to One and Two. She knew that she had the advantage of being trained by her mother, and she had access to many resources. Over the years, Shadow's treatment had supported her to get many cultivation resources, which allowed her to progress smoothly. Yet two random people that were sent by him was at her level. Not to mention Aile and Hazel who seemed to be the leaders.
By the time Ellie and Violet were done this time, they noticed that One and Two were fixing the wolf meat over the fire. Aile had already applied herbs to the meal.
Once again, One and Two went and herded more wolves. By the time Ellie and Violet were done, they could smell the tantalizing smell of roasted meat. However, before they decided to ask for some. They noticed that One and Two had already brought the next group before they could rest.
