Chapter 56: Chapter 55 – A good news!
Aile quickly hurried to the door to see Jake enter. He had an injury on the back of his shoulder, which was still bleeding. Aile gestured him to come into the room.
Jake had a long sigh of relief, seeing that Aile had arrived at the tavern safely. Aile quickly went to his bag and took out some healing cream and rubbed it on the guard's shoulder. He felt that this injury was his fault. After all, he had all of this planned, and Jake stayed behind to hold the assassin back from hurting him.
At the same time, Sara became curious and asked a few questions to Jake about his injuries. He danced around the truth, not telling Sara what exactly happened. This was mainly because he felt guilty that he was the cause of the escalated situation. Aile could see some guilt on his face. This made Aile feel worse.
At the same time, he felt somewhat happy that Jake had started to cover for him and that he was not ungrateful.
Aile then tried to put Jake in ease. He told Jake that apparently, some group wanted to ruin the princess's birthday and they created some trouble in town and also in the northern garden. This made Jake have another sigh of relief. He had thought that this was all his and Aile's fault.
Which was correct, but then his logic kicked in and had told him that Aile is only 10 years old and it was all just coincidental. Jake left his room soon after with a calmer expression than he came with.
Aile talked with Sara for some more time when Hazle came and asked him about how he found those runes, and he similarly explained the situation as he did to the guard. She was much more thorough than the guard. Aile was no ordinary person, and he answered everything correctly without disclosing too much. Then Hazel told Sara to come with her as initially, that was why she came here.
She also said something to Aile that made him sigh in exasperation. Hazel told Aile that they would have the princess over for dinner and that he needs to attend it and he should dress up. Aile tried to get out of the arrangement, as he did not want to have more contact with her after today's incident, but he realized he could not escape. Hazle persisted and dictatorially told him that he has to come.
Aile sighed, if he knew this, he would have worn a mask today to hide his face from her. In the end, he agreed to meet her.
He could not change anything now, so he no longer worried about that.
Once everyone was gone. Aile started to meditate to get into a calmer state. He organized his thoughts. He went through today's event to make sure that he had not left any clues or loose ends.
One of the areas of concern were Jake, he knew a lot. However, Aile was not too concerned on that front. They had grown closer after today's battle, and Aile was sure he would not disclose much as it would also implicate him.
Then, there was another loose end, which was that tourist that helped him spread the rumours. This was a bigger problem.
Aile started to think of a possible problem that could arise if he speaks about how they spread the rumours. He came up with a few countermeasures.
Then was the young master who he had hurt, but he did not seem like the type that would implicate himself. If he reveals anything a lot of fingers could point towards his direction.
Then Aile started to evaluate the progress of his goals in coming to Cape Tie.
He had achieved one of his goals in coming here to increase his Rune knowledge. Now he had another important goal, which was to find out why Duke White wanted him here and a few minor goals.
These were to find a possible way to learn more about intermediate Runes to continue understanding Runes.
Second, to find a trading link in this town, as after his deal succeeds with the bandits, he will need a partner to collect the material and trades with. As Cape Tie was close to Port Kiar and a much larger town, it was a perfect place to find such a trading firm.
Then he remembered that he just received a lot of information from the soul connection for his Auxiliary Field. He started to evaluate the new information in his head.
Time passed, and after 1 hour of digesting the new information, he woke up with a shocked expression. His heart was beating faster, and he had excitement built up in his body. This was because he had just received a surprise from the new information.
The highlights of which was that the auxiliary connection would improve his runes from normal one to "Spirit Runes." Spirit Runes are living runes, using the runes in a specific pattern one can make them behave like living things. As long as the key components remain the can regenerate by gathering energy from the atmosphere. They will be harder to detect and much harder to destroy. However, it was more time consuming to carve them. This was something that Aile had not seen in any of the books.
He assumed that this was something that would probably not be seen in the whole kingdom. There was a lot more information that he needed to learn and try out. However, he had plenty of time to learn them, and there was no need to rush it.
Aile then went to the bathroom to prepare a bath. He opened the tap and started to undress.
He had gotten into a huge fight today, and the talisman the young master used had actually hurt his back. He then gently took off his clothes and noticed a red patch on his back.
He went back to the room and took some of the healing-cream and applied to his wound. He was gritting his teeth from the stinging pain caused as a result of contact between his hand and the red area. Halfway through, he realized that it would have been better to apply it after the bath as it would be washed off.
He wanted nothing but to stop feeling that pain, thus he decided to apply the rest after the bath. He entered the bathtub quickly with both his feet when a chill run down his spine.
This was because he had not adjusted the water temperature. This was usually done by Diana, Sophie, Emily, and Fiona. He got out and remembered them. He turned the hot water at this time and started to fill the rest. As it was happening, he pondered about them; he was thinking about how they were doing and if they were safe at Port Kiar.
He had created a safe location for them, but he did not know if that was enough. He thought perhaps he was too hasty. He should have created more options for them and one that could allow them to leave the town.
Right now, they had a relatively safe location. However, if a big event happens in the town. The mansion might not remain secure. From the chaotic events today, Aile got a better understanding of human savagery in such occasions, and this made him worried.
From all these mistakes, he noticed that he needs to have more experience and knowledge to better plan and protect his people. He knew that he was lacking experience in a lot of areas, and his solitary lifestyle prone him to careless mistakes. However, this cannot be changed until he fully integrates with the body.
In the end, a lot of these problems could not be avoided and had to be faced. So Aile sighed and entered the now warm bath. After washing himself, he groaned. It was a mediocre bathing experience. This was because of his pulsating back, which had turned red and very sensitive as a result of talisman burn. He applied the cream and mentally cursed the princess a couple of times.
Then he wore the clothes that Sara had bought him, and this improved the way he looked. It was getting close to the time they had to meet the princess, and he was ready. He then looked at the time and noticed that there was still some time before dinner.
Therefore, he decided to make sure that he was in a good health condition. After noticing the burn mark on his back that was quite serious, he noticed that his vigilance and understanding of wounds were not high enough.
Thus he decided to examine the rest of his body to make sure nothing is wrong. He checked throughout his body and did not find any anomalies. However, he did find something to his liking. He only needs to consciously cultivate tonight to get to the third stage of cultivation. Well, this news excited him. While Aile was enjoying his progress, he heard a knocking on his door.
