Chapter 23: The devil of Aradale

16th century

Jamie knew she should have listened to the brute king about the berries but she wasn't about to admit that he was right to him. She kept quiet for as long as she could but silence wasn't really her forte just like sitting still and so, she decided to poke a sleeping tiger.

"Tell me why everyone calls you the devil of Aradale, your highness"

"No" Alexander's voice was firm and gave no room for objections but Jamie kept talking.

"You won't get a moment peace unless you tell me, oh king"

Alexander all but grunted "It's too bad the berry didn't paralyze your mouth too...too bad"

Jamie kept quiet for a few seconds before she tried to speak again but King Alexander managed to turn himself so, he wouldn't look at her anymore but it didn't stop him from remembering his boyhood tales, when all he knew was blood and violence, when he earned his name - the devil of Aradale.
