Chapter 20: Pewter city Gym
AN: I have decided to go with my original plan and not make the mystery man a transmigrator

Rex woke up the next day feeling refreshed as he began to make breakfast before packing up his stuff, recalling all of his pokemon and making his way towards Pewter City where he would be earning his very first gym badge. Rex cycled at a fast pace to get in some extra exercise before he got there. somehow Rex still felt tired and so did Machop, Rex attributed it to the aura training and the system confirmed that after scanning him and machop it found that he was very close to being able to sense aura, and that this first step brought with it a boost in stats for him and machop. Rex simply nodded as it was a matter of course and nothing strange about it, luckily the tiredness did go away greatly after sleep. After riding for a while he finally saw Pewter city. Rex felt incredibly excited at the prospect of his first-ever gym battle, he was very confident as he had a very small chance of losing if any but he didn't want to get arrogant since he still had many things to learn when it came to the art of battle. Before entering he had to go through the mandatory check by officer jenny and was soon allowed in without a hitch.
Rex looked around at the city, it definitely was not as vibrant and luxurious as Veridian city but it was still big and very well kept. Rex made his way over to the pokemon centre to have his pokemon checked on before making his way over to one of the PC in the centre. he decided to call professor oak for a chat and see how things were going, after all in less than a week Ash and Gary would be starting their journey.
Oak "oh hello Rex, how are you?" he asked cheerfully
Rex "good professor I just made it to Pewter City and I will be challenging the gym today," he said semi excited.
Oak" hahaha I see you're excited that's good, I wish you the best of luck, Ash and Gary are getting restless over here wanting to start their journey already. tell me Rex have you caught any pokemon yet?" he asked
Rex " yes I have actually, a shiny Magikarp that evolved into a massive Gyarados that I will show you when I have the chance to go back to pallet town, as well as a Bellsprout and a scyther." he said happily remembering the very happy days he just had with his pokemon.
Oak" I'm glad that you caught a few and you have a few with a type advantage to rock types so you will be fine, I welcome the idea of bringing your Gyarados for me to look at, I also forgot to take a look at your black Machop since I was busy, I hope that's okay with you?" he asked
Rex "yes yes that would be fine, but I have to go Professor my pokemon are ready, the next time I call you will be in Cerulean city," he said with a smile before waving and cutting the call. Rex made his way over to nurse Joy and collected his pokemon before saying thank you and walking out. he was directly walking towards the gym where he would be fighting. As he walked he thought about who to send out. Machop was definitely a no go since his fighting type attacks are even stronger than his elemental ones it would just make brock quit being a gym leader, well not that he was a good one since his little brother forest did a much better job he thought as he chuckled. He thought about it a little harder and soon had an idea of who he was sending out. he was going to have Bellsprout vs geodude and use the pressure from the fight to evolve him. Onix will still curb stomp a freshly evolved Weepinbell so he won't go with that. He thought about it and decided to use Scyther against Onix, his speed will make it an easy fight.
Rex soon made it to the entrance to the gym and breathed out expelling the little nervousness he had and made his way in. not too far in, a receptionist could be seen on the computer tying away. when he saw Rex walk in with his white knee-length coat, black turtleneck and gloves making his way over, he stopped what he was doing and faced Rex.
Receptionist "are you here to watch or challenge the gym?" he asked respectfully
Rex " I'm here to challenge the gym," he said calmly as he stared at the receptionist.
Receptionist "very well, there is currently a challenger on the field but you are more than welcome to watch or come back at a later time." he said flatly.
Rex "no need it should end quickly, I'll watch." he said before making his way over to the seating area on the second floor where the audience would sit. it was different to the games, here the arena took the whole first floor and there was only a staircase to the side next to the reception where the audience could take a seat.
Rex soon found a seat near the front and began to observe the challenger and Brock. currently, Brock was using onix, so it seemed that geodude was knocked out but it also appeared that the challenger had already lost a pokemon as well either to Onix due to low health or a double knockout. The battle was underway, the challenger had a raticate which zoomed towards the Onix using quick attack, Brock was calm and told Onix to use harden, Raticate smashed into the Onix and bounced off doing no damage whatsoever. The challenger was shocked, Rex just shook his head, Onix might have less attack than an oddish, but his defence is horrifying. Special attacks and speed was the way to win but the challenger seemed to be too stupid as he kept using quick attacks and tackle against Onix. Brock easily won the fight with a rock polish and a tackle before following up with a bind. That was the end, the challenger lost and recalled the knocked out raticate. Rex was not surprised, the challenger was an 11-year-old kid with no information on the pokemon he was facing or the type of attacks that are effective.
Rex made his way down and onto the field, he was passing the kid when he heard him say.
Kid "be careful man he's strong I'd say to go back and train." he said sadly.
Rex "there won't be a need for that, but you kid, need to read up on pokemon a bit more," he said as he walked away while waving. Rex soon came onto the battlefield, the good thing was the kid was incompetent enough to not damage the field, or was that a form of competence he pondered before being interrupted by Brock.
Brock " hello are you here to challenge the gym as well? I saw you in the stands," he asked
Rex " yes I'm here to challenge the gym when will you be ready?" he asked back
Brock " well Onix didn't take damage from the last fight and he's still has a lot of energy and I have a spare geodude ready so whenever you want," he said confidently
Rex " I'm ready right now let's get this over with," he said calmly.
Brock "yes lets that way you can come back tomorrow for another try," he said with a smile
Rex " Sure, ok, whatever you say." he said dismissively.
