Chapter 104: A Contracted Battle (2)
Ulthris Kaahen, the lava stone orc leader, has begun to feel very annoyed. Just like his battle against Tharnomath, it seems that once again his opponent has chosen a hit-and-run tactic.
Whilst this is normal, a strategy for opponents who are weaker in close combat. It is simply a waste of time for the orcish walking fort.
"Is that what they've taught you in their might estate? When to run and when to cower!" Ulthris begins to yell out, a feeling of disgust joining his already prominent rage.
*BANG*
Another loud banging sound follows as the large lava stone orc begins to smash his great war hammer against the nearby buildings.
"WHERE HAS THAT PRIDE GONE, BOY! FIGHT ME!"
'Surprisingly enough, I kinda get what he's going on about. Still, I can hardly risk an early death just for his satisfaction.' Secessuss thinks, still trying to figure out some effective way to fight the brute.
'Think, think, think…. The only damage that I've done is with my blood bound spear. Could that have anything to do with the fact that my spear out of mana is considered physical? I noticed that when fighting that wraith in the tournament, and perhaps Ulthris has a lower physical resistance than magical?'
'...'
'That would mean that I have to get close to do any damage. I am pretty fast, and I have a few tricks hidden underneath my sleeve. Then again, everyone has a plan until they get hit with a war hammer in the face.'
'...'
'Shit.' Seccesus curses, mentally noticing that any chance of victory will have to be the result of close combat.
Ignoring the still ranting opponent, Secessus begins to utilize blood magic on himself. His heart starts beating faster as his blood flow intensifies. This result of this blood magic is comparable to a form of doping.
Reflexes are heightened, instincts are sharpened, whilst speed and strength have risen considerably.
Calmly collecting his breath, Seccessuss looks toward the raging larger orc. His decision was made, only the outcome was left to be decided.
One deep breath.
Inhale... Attack!
The once retreating shade demon uses his wings created of darkness to go towards Ulthris Kaahen.
Now it was Ulthris Kaahen who was visibly surprised by the sudden change in battle strategy. His rants had never before actually yielded any success. His opponents tended to fear death more than an angry orc.
Using this chance, Secessuss decides to go for maiming blows instead of fatal ones. He assumed that he was simply not capable of killing his opponent in one blow. This forced him to try and go for an advantage instead of victory.
Before his blood-bound spear strikes Ulthris's body, an image of the wounded Tharnomath flashes by. His mangled leg was a sight for sore eyes.
Seeing this image flashy by, Secessuss strikes Ulthris Kaahen's leg. Hoping to create a similar result.
The spear managed to pierce the orcish armor-like skin considerably deeper than his first attempt.
Ulthris Kaahen could not dodge in time as the spear lodged itself in his knee cap.
Not willing to let a chance, to strike his opponent, go to waste. Ulthris tries to punch Seccessuss, "Schweres Herz" would probably have been relatively easily dodged.
Ulthris's left fist connects with Secessuss's right cheek. Knocking out 2 teeth and bloodying the lip even more.
Secessuss creates another blood-bound spear, leaving his previous one lodged, and goes for another strike on Ulthris. This time it was blocked as "Schweres Herz" hilt gets in the way.
The large orc goes for another grapple on his opponent. This attempt is dodged again, using shadow walk to travel from one shadow to another.
Instead of retreating like before, Secessus decides to continue his attack as he uses Ulthris's shadow to walk out again. Attacking his exposed back, Secessuss tries to impale the blood-bound spear into Ulthris's spine.
Impaling a spear into strong armor-like skin is more time-consuming than slashing it with a sword. This small difference gives Ulthris Kaahen the chance to counterattack.
Ulthris Kaahen is not the smartest when it comes to general topics. He wouldn't know how the economy worked, or a philosophical debate might not be his strong suit.
Luckily for him, that's not how you learn to battle. The battle is learned from experience, and Ulthris has plenty.
His opponent, a shade demon taught by the Talvit brothers, was utilizing his superior mobility and exploiting Ulthris's larger figure.
The shade demon was also aware of Ulthris's strength and has been actively avoiding a direct hit.
His opponent has also figured out that any magical spell against Ulthris is rather futile. But the physical attacks that Secessuss has launched have also only done minimal damage.
As an experienced warrior, Ulthris decided to try to lull Secessus to a sense of complacency. His body could sustain these attacks for quite some time.
The orc just had to made sure that his next strike would prove fatal.
The momentum of this battle did not change for the next 10 minutes.
Secessus whilst landing strikes that would be maiming for any other demon has not done any major damage. Ulthris has still been biting his time, attempting a grapple here and there, but to no avail.
Ulthris's neck, torso, knees and other body parts show injuries.
'His move have gotten sloppier.' Seccessus notices.
Having made this observation, he decides to go for a strike on one of Ulthris's eyes. In an attempt to blind him.
Dodging a pitiful grapple attempt, the shade demon goes full speed towards Ulthris's face. The blood bound spear draws incredibly close.
"AAAARRRGGGGHHH"
A loud scream comes out of Ultkris's mouth. Not a scream of pain, but rather one resembling a soldier charging into battle.
Then before the spear could make contact, Ulthris manages to reach out with his left hand and with a firm grip holds the spear.
There was never fear in those eyes. Now that he has hold of the spear, a smirk appears on his face.
"Schweres Herz" requires a lot of strength to wield. That's why it is considered a great war hammer.
Secessus realized quickly however that all sense of logic surrounding the limitations of one's strength should be abandoned.
Ulthris manages to swing the 2 handed war hammer with his one hand at an even greater speed than before.
"WHAM"
A loud clashing sound is followed by the sound of an object being dragged over the ground at an incredible speed as "Schweres Herz" made direct contact with Seccessus's head.
