Chapter 21: The Fight

It was the expected day of the dungeon break; hordes of Hunters stationed in San Francisco. It was apparent that not just the recruited S-Rank Hunters were present.

When the strategic meeting ended, they announced the contents of it to the public. News stations reporting the news shocked the world. Who wouldn't be when you're facing Dragons, an S-Rank Dragon.

Neighboring cities of San Francisco evacuated, not taking any chances of being in the cross-hairs of a dragon. A Dragon can fly; no nearby place is safe.

As for Kara's home, they live near the small towns of Colorado, nice and quiet. The air is clean, and it's surrounded by thick forests too. However, a magical barrier is protecting their land, can't be too careful in protection.

Now, the only people present within the vicinity of the Golden Gate Bridge were officials, Hunters, reporters, and the military. Even if modern weapons were deemed useless, people still cling to them.

Overlooking everything from afar was Kara. She situated herself in between the shore and the bridge, the middle. Anything further would be boring in her words.

Everyone was tense, even when the ocean breeze swept their faces. However, the one to break this tension was Thomas. He still attended in his Hawaiian shirts; his daughters love them.

His attitude was laid-back, almost as if he knew they would come out as the victors today. He was probably the only one not wearing armor; even reporters had bulletproof vests.

Even his daughter had some semblance of armor; her attire was that of an ethereal dress with light armor padding, flowing sleeves with a metallic arm brace, thigh-high armored greaves, and her sabaton (Footwear) was that of a heel.

She was still in her growing stages of life, but her appearance was that of an innocent angel. Platinum white hair that shines in its untainted self, eyes of sapphire with hints of golden hue, fair skin so supple and smooth that it's akin to a baby's bum, and a face so perfect that will make Aphrodite bless her soul.

It was highly evident that she would grow to an unchallenged beauty, no contender for the title. Except, very few only get to see her countenance, and an overprotective Papa is protecting it from tainted eyes.

*Zzt* *Zzt* *Zzt*

Alas, the awaited fight arrived. Hunters could feel the rush of magical energy pouring out of the humongous gate, so much so that low-ranked Hunters breathed heavy.

"Aerys, it's time," Kara said as she mounted on the top of Aerys' head. The two got hidden by the cover of the ever-so-present fog of San Francisco.

*ROAR!*

*ROAR!*

*ROAR!*

As Kara said her piece, they could hear an endless amount of roars surfacing out of the gate. Not for long; tens of dragons flapped their wings free, soon that number reached a Hundred.

Hunters seeing this scene were paling in fright; never have they ever imagined this scene. It was like the gates of Hell suddenly emerged.

But soon, orders came ringing from veteran Hunters. The healers started buffing the squads assigned to, the mages chanting and casting their spells, rangers knocking their arrows, tanks taunting the dragons, and fighters strengthening their sword arms.

*Woosh!*

*Zoom!*

It attracted the dragons breaking free to the magical attacks zooming past them, but it hit some squares in the chests.

*Boom!*

When the magical bombardment reached their target, a scurry of explosion happened. Dragons got covered by the rain of attacks, unable to be seen,

The next thing that happened made Hunters gain hope; a series of Dragons dropped from the skies, with clipped wings.

"YEAH!"

"TAKE THAT!"

"T-This is easy!"

A sound of cheers resounded within the Hunters; no one can blame them; any amount of success eases the hearts.

However, some knew better than to have false hope. The big guy has yet to arrive, they thought.

And like the breaker of hopes, a looming shadow began peeking out of the gate, an immense scarlet shadow.

The weak paled, but the strong steeled their hearts. The wave of small dragons has yet to die, and yet, the big guy has arrived, arrived like a hammer shattering windows of hope.

*ROAAAAAAAAAR!^

It released a deafening roar; everyone had to clutch their ears; they were stunned!

The first wave of Dragons didn't slack and released their versions of fiery breaths — Hunters on the ground looked like pigs on a slaughter.

However, not all were stunned by the roar. Namely, Thomas didn't even move from his initial spot nor flinched.

He strode forward while spreading his arms wide and gathered mana within his palms. When it reached its peak, he clapped both palms of his together.

*CLAP!*

The sound and shock wave that resulted from his clap had a collision against the fiery breaths of Dragons; the intense attacks ended scattering in the air.

With his initial counter-attack, all paled Hunters regained their spirits. The likes of Go Gun-Hee, Liu Zhigang, Sidharth Bachchan, Jonas, and Christopher Reed were all prepared to interfere with their attacks but were too late.

But suddenly, as another got Dragon provoked by the roar of dominance, it too released its roar.

"ROARRRRRR!" out of nowhere, concentrated golden breaths of flames struck from above, crisply burning dozens of the smaller dragons.

It caught everyone off-guard; no one had expected another round of reinforcement and one of that caliber.

"Wh-where did that come from!?" one asked, but all he received was silence.

Within seconds, everyone got their answer. An angelic dragon descended from the skies, its mighty feathery wings flapping, head adorned with golden horns like a crown, scales fitted like plate armor, and the body size of a three-story estate mansion.

To add to the surprise, a series of magic circles formed behind it, to which they found someone mounting on its head. The said person who mounted its head left everyone's mouth agape.

*Woosh!*

The series of magic circles activated and rained magic arrows on the dragons; though they weren't as effective, they still managed to pierce a few inches deep.

Not surprisingly, the dragons were still heading for the grouped Hunters' locations. Note that these magical beasts have gone insane over the years, the reason why they didn't focus on Kara.

*FWOOOSH!*

Aerys, suddenly, had to maneuver like a fighter jet. What he dodged just now was the fire breath from the yet-to-be-named Kamish. Kamish's flames hitting the surface of the ocean boiled furiously!

[AN: I'll be calling him Kamish even though he is not named yet.]

Kamish followed after Aerys' trail with his continuous blasts of flames; sadly, Hunters got mixed into the crossfire and burnt to ashes.

When the Hunters' comrades got turned to ashes, that is when they got out of their stupor and started attacking the incoming Dragons.

"[CAPTURE]!" utilizing his God-given skills, Thomas, with excellent usage of his abilities, pulled the Dragons towards him like a black hole.

And like a tsunami, but made of Dragons, crashed onto the hardened ground. Hunters immediately got to work, charging and slicing their way through scales of steel.

Unfortunately, Dragons are known for their toughened muscles and metal-like scales. Their weapons were barely making deep cuts. Due to this, the Dragons who recovered from the momentary crash started attacking the Hunters violently.

Flesh and limbs torn from bodies; the armor they were proud of got shredded like cabbages. Horrid screams filled the air — the cries warned the arrogant against rushing blind.

The only saving grace were those blessed by the Rulers, quickly running through hordes of dragonic bodies. They were a clear cut above the rest, no contest.

Kara helped by getting the attention of Kamish. If not, then Lady Death would've sung cheerfully with the souls coming her way. Kamish's breath can already kill a chunk of them.

She acted like a fighter jet, bombarding the thick scales of the massive Dragon with deadly magical blasts. When she looked down to view the Hunters, blood and gore were all she saw.

'Those who died pretty early on must be the arrogant ones. I mean, why rush blindly? Do these people think they are as tough as my Papa?' Even when in thought, magical attacks were still making their way to Kamish.

Though, because of her attacks, Kamish has finally resorted to physical attacks. If breaths of fire don't work, brute force must, right? Now that Kamish advanced, his weight was stressing the bridge!

Soon enough, the bridge collapsed under his violent thrashing. Sharp claws sliced through the thick cables, all in the name of catching Kara.

'Since the bridge got damaged beyond belief, might as well break it even more!' she thought and signaled at Aerys to not hold back. The mount gladly nodded.

"[FUS RO DAH]!" an immovable force headed for Kamish, madly flying in hot pursuit for them. When the shout reached the Dragon, it got rag-dolled into the deep waters.

*SPLASH*

His fall staggered many and even caused the towers of the bridge to fall into the icy waters. Their momentary stagger cost them their life, their dragon opponents not giving them time to recover.

The injured, quickly brought to the healers for treatment. Some had deep gashes in the neck but held on due to the potion they had on hand. Every Hunter had potions, but you can't use them anymore when you die instantly.

Eventually, the minions got dealt with, and they turned their attention to Kamish, and just in time to see an intricate and massive magic circle forming.

"Aerys, mind calling a storm for me?" she had a crazy combo in mind, and a shout would help. "[STRUN BAH QO]!" with it — came a raging storm from high above.

The magic circle that Kara created moments ago was a lightning spell. It just so happens that it strengthens by absorbing lightning as well. Magically, the lightning called by Aerys was being sucked into the magic circle, getting charged.

Eventually, the magic circle thumped with a brilliant purple radiance. Kamish, who just got back on his feet, felt imminent danger from it.

He didn't sit idle and instinctively tried running away. Hunters who saw this immediately tried restraining him by throwings spells and any attack they could.

'Oh, they're finished with their side and are helping me already? I'll let them help then,' she wanted to show them the strength gap, not wanting to think Kamish was easy prey.

It is to note that Kara has already used up quite the amount of her mana, and Kamish has yet to drop dead. It seems Dragons having an overall high magical resistance because of their scales is true.

While Kara pondered, Hunters like Go Gun-Hee were stalling the Dragon with brute physical force. Go Gun-Hee and Thomas worked like a well-oiled machine.

Thomas already cast his reinforcement, turning him into a three-meter tall armored giant, raining thunderous blows onto Kamish's head and body.

With the added help of Go Gun-Hee, they were able to knock Kamish back into the water and immediately retreated.

Kara, seeing her Papa beat the beast, was proud! "Time to end this show. I'm starting to feel tired already," she complained.

Lightning and Water? Not a good mix for anyone, and this anyone was Kamish, who was inside a body of water.

"I'll name this spell, [Shout of Lightning]!" Rather proud of the name and activated it all together, the collected lightning was within the range of dozens.

In his final desperate move, Kamish released a concentrated beam of fire. It headed towards the magic circle, hoping to destroy it.

*Zzt!*

*ZZT!*

*BANG!*

The concentrated beam of lightning struck and cut through the flames. The lightning entered through the mouth of the beast, scorching his insides.

Kamish fell into the waters of San Francisco, smelling like steak. Kara, seeing this, drooled, 'Hoho~ I'll send you back home instead! There's no property damage anyway, except for the bridge. But, who cares!'

"Aerys, make sure he's dead, will you?" she ordered, not wanting a berserk dragon in her house. "[LAAS YAH NIR]" Aerys could see that there was no life aura present within Kamish anymore.

"[Illusion]" Kara cast on the surroundings of Kamish's body; she showed a scene wherein Kamish slowly disintegrated, much to the shock of everyone.

'This Dragon will be my payment! All the materials to experiment on! The blood! The savory meat! The soul! EVERYTHING!' she thought and quickly teleported Kamish's body back to her secret forest near her house.

Kara, INNOCENTLY, landed down with her Papa. With Aerys in tow. 'Dragon steak for dinner tonight!'
