Chapter 7: Anthony's Plan

"That's the guy!"

"Let's get him!"

"No! He is mine! I want that spot!"

Why the hell is everybody chasing me?! And what spot?

All I did was wake up and come to campus and as soon as I walked through the front doors, people have been trying to take me out as if I had a bounty on my head.

I tried running to my mom's classroom, but when I turned the corner of C-3 onto C-4, people were already outside her classroom waiting for me.

The real question is, how did they know I was going to be there and how did they know who I am?

Everywhere I run to or turn, someone is waiting for me.

I ran through a hidden hall that was behind the elevator that led to the second floor of C-3 and next to my mother's office. I cannot try and hide in there because her door is more than likely closed and locked whenever she is not in there and more than likely she is in the classroom lecturing where I should be at.

As I sat down on the ground behind the elevator, there was a bulletin board hanging on the wall next to me. On it were different colored papers with my… picture on it?! I ran over to snatch one of the sheets off it.

"Become the Sorcerer's Apprentice!"

"Learn how to make deals with the devil and other demonic spirits!"

"Want to get your toxic ex back because you love the toxic life? Want that special someone by force because they do not want to be with you because you are a creep? Want the easy life and everything laid down before your very own feet? If you answered yes to any of these, you qualify as a candidate! Now here is what you must do! This is a picture of Paul, if you can successfully curse, hex, or jinx him, you immediately earn a spot at a personal face-to-face interview and become the next town witch. You must hurry because space and time are limited, 24 hours to be exact."

He went with a damn flier! It even has my class schedule, where to find me, and Anthony's number as contact information.

I'm going to kill that guy! As a matter of fact, I am going to give him a call!

(Ring, Ring)

Come on! Pick up!

"What's up?!"

"You put up a damn flier with my photo and schedule on it?!"

"I do not understand. Are you mad? I put it up everywhere so everyone can see it."

"Yes exactly, and now everybody is out to get me! Why the hell did you say that they have to put a spell on me!"

"Isn't it obvious? To see if they have any magical abilities, and this way I can see if a true witch exists."

"This is not a goddamn game for your own personal gain!"

I let out a low growl that I never knew I could do before.

"What the hell was that?!"

"Nothing! Call you back later, they found me!"

(Click)

Phew, that was close.

"Hey! I thought I hear a voice coming from behind the elevator!"

Crap! That is a sign to hurry on out of here.

I ran upstairs and to my surprise, the hallway was empty and quiet. A little too quiet at this time. Usually, the halls would be crowded and noisy. What is this strange sensation that I am getting? I don't like the way that it feels. The wooden door that leads into the hall where my mom's office is, opened and a thin pale girl with long black hair casually walked out into the hallway with a medium-sized book in her hand. She looked at me with a grin that went from ear to ear.

I do not like the look she is giving me. Maybe I should run.

"I have been waiting for you!"

"Let me guess, you want that spot at learning spells."

Now she had that crazy look in her eyes and opened her brown book, "Do you want to know why I want that spot?"

"It's pretty obvious, to learn witchcraft." I told her trying to be a smart ass, "that is the reason why we are looking for someone."

She cracked a wicked smile, "No! It is to be able to kill people more effectively."

"It is more than about killing people you know!"

"Well, it is the only thing I care about because I am evil, just don't mess with me or my kin and you will be fine."

I stood there trying to understand what she had just said, "But if your evil… then you should not have a heart or care about anyone other than yourself."

"How dare you try and lecture me! Shut up and die!" She began to chant, and a faint dark outline surrounded her body, "Spirits that dwell in the darkness, I call to you. Come forth and help me to defeat my foe so that I can reach my goal as the sorcerer's apprentice and as a reward, I will give you, his soul."

This looks bad!

Shadows from underneath her feet came rushing toward me and wrapped themselves around my legs preventing me from running away.

"Now be a good boy and DIE!"

The dark energy was starting to focus and form on her right hand, and she pointed it at me, "Take this!"

All I could do was watch and let it happen.

She shot me with it, and to my surprise, I was still standing. I started patting myself all around and I was confused as to what had just happened.

"How the hell are you still standing?!" She stomped her foot and charged up for another attack. "DIE!!!!!!!"

Once again, I was unharmed, and she was throwing a tantrum in the hallway, "Why the fuck isn't it working! I did as the spell says!"

The shadows that had their grip on me let me go and I used that chance to charge at her.

"My book! Give it back!"

"You mean this one," I said taunting her. I tore out pages from the book and ripped them to shreds.

"MY BOOK OF SHADOWS!!!!"

The shadows that were in the hallway started to disappear one by one, "You are unworthy of being our mistress! You let someone take and destroy your only means to defend yourself. Our pact has been broken, do not EVER call upon us again!"

"NO! MY BABIES! PLEASE COME BACK!" She screamed as she fell to her knees.

I threw the pieces of the book on the ground beside her, "Now you won't be able to hurt anyone ever again."

She pulled out a pocket knife and exposed the blade, "Hey! What are you doing with that thing?!"

"I must renew the contract!" She started to slit her wrists.

"Stop that!"

She lay on the floor crying and begged for them to return.

"This girl is nuts! I need to call for help."

I stayed with her until the medics arrived. As they carried her off on the stretcher, I could hear her say under her breath, "My babies." over and over again.

That is one less candidate. I am surprised that there was an actual witch here.

As I was watching the ambulance drive off, I heard some of the guys behind me say, "He must have taken her down as part of a test to become an apprentice. I do not want to mess with him anymore."

"Agreed! He's scary!"

I turned around and told them with the coldest expression I could find in me, "Then none of you are worthy."

"Let's get out of here!"

I laughed as they ran away.
