Chapter 9: None Shall Pass

One month later, a battle group consisting of two Imperial-I Star Destroyers came out of hyperspace at the edge of the Naboo System. They belonged to an Imperial Remnant, they were attempting to invade and rally on the planet that was once the Emperor's Birthworld.

"Sir, scan-com is picking up a Super Star Destroyer over the planet. It's the Guardian... However we're not recognizing the transponder code. What are your orders, Sir?" The newly promoted Cadet asked the Captain of the Hellion.

"Hm... What's its current action, Ensign?" The Captain barked as he walked over towards the viewport of the Hellion. His eyes narrowing at the sight from afar. There were at least a dozen other star destroyers in the system. Yet as if they were waiting for an attack or enemies to reveal themselves, they were outgoing ignoring the entrance of the remnant battle group.

"Inaction, sir. However we've also noticed unidentified star fighters on patrol. They're reminiscent of our own ties sir," The ensign informed as he walked up behind the Captain and remained there with his hands folded behind his back and an erect posture.

The Captain paused for a few moments as he watched several unknown destroyers appear and disappear patrolling in a circle motion within the planetary system. "It's a trap! Raise the Alarm! This is not a drill!" The Star Destroyer group began turning around upon his command. "All hands, prepa–"

Suddenly heavy turbolaser clashed against the Hellion's outer hull. Hyperdrive immediately being disabled by the weapons fire. It was the same with its sister ship in the same battle group.

"Damage report!"

"The the hyperdrive has been disabled! The shields are shutting down, sir!" One of the officers cried out as their station began to spark and explode. Sending the officer across the room, spiraling through the air before smacking into an adjacent wall.

"The shields!? How is that possible?" The Captain marched over towards one of the main operations terminals of the vessel and stared at it. On the very screen he was gazing upon, there was little duck like creatures marching across it, winking at the viewer.

He stared at the screen for several minutes. "Launch all fighters! Show our enemies the bell–" He was cut off as a hole blasted through the back of the command tower. Air and people began getting sucked out of the bridge until the blast doors closed and trapped them on that section.

The Captain laid there on the ground as he had held onto a nearby handle to stop himself from being sucked out into space. "Ensign!" He called out and glanced over towards the young man who had originally reported to him.

He was dead, his head bashed in from being sent into a nearby wall on his way towards the door.

"Shit..." He looked towards a Lieutenant who pulled themself out of the pit and walked over towards the Captain. Helping him up onto his feet and over towards the command strip.

"Report!"

"The Hangar has been destroyed. Only twenty TIEs were able to launch," The Lieutenant was able to report, before stumbling to the side as the neighboring Star Destroyer combusted. Enemy weapons were ripping through its hull like butter without its shields. Kinetic and Thermal damage was observed at a quick glance.

"Sir, they're using chiss weaponry!" One of the weapons officers reported who was watching out the window on the starboard side.

The Captain's lips spread into a fine frown. "We've been betrayed...?"

"Sir, the atmosphere on board is being vented! We have to abandon ship!" One of the officers wailed and began running towards the blast door. Pushing a button, they were unable to override it, and turned to look over at the captain.

"The only way off the ship is to use the maintenance hatch, but that could be damaged as well. We're trapped in here." The Captain informed his crew regrettably. People generally gave up, while some tried to find a way out of it.

As soon as one person opened the hatch, they were sucked in as it was exposed to vacuum. The hatch to the maintenance corridors quickly closed in response to this.

"How is this possible..." One of the Lieutenants asked quietly.

"I can't die like this," one of the navigators growled to themselves, turning the ship around to face the enemies. The volleys of turbolaser blasts had stopped. The heavily damaged destroyer was being allowed to advance?

The captain returned to the forward viewport and stared out towards the Imperial Super Star Destroyer which was turning to face them. "That's just overkill..." He muttered as he saw small explosions where the few fighters that had gotten out, were fighting for their lives.

"Sir, their weapons are targeting the main reactor! We're already crippled, what's the point of–" A bright light could be seen taking up the window. Another volley had been fired and suddenly everyone on board was weightlessly floating about.

Terminals flickered and some even sparked and exploded from electric surges.

Face planting against the window, the Captain would stead himself and look at his officers, then back down out the window. He could only gasp as he found the command superstructure had been severed by several volleys of laser fire. He watched as they floated away, the reactor suffered an overload and simultaneously erupted. The entire star destroyer was consumed in a single explosion. Sending debris in ever direction.

"TAKE COVER!" He barked out, debris hitting the bridge and shattering the windows. Those who weren't behind cover, or holding onto something, found themselves swiftly pulled out into space. The blast doors then came down and closed the windows. Sealing them inside.

Dangerous creaking could be heard, which caused the survivors to shiver.

Admiral Versio on board the bridge of the Guardian was staring out into space seeing the spectacle. He watched as two Imperial Star Destroyers suffered from a viral update to their operating systems which granted the Grand Moff remote control.

It was scary to watch, sad. The fact that he could just play with his enemies like this even frightened him. Should he ever turn against this man, or no longer be valued, he could end up like these people. Though he'd readily sacrifice himself for the Empire, he slowly turned towards the Grand Moff whom was standing beside him, he had no idea what he'd do against this man.

That's when Gideon came onto the bridge, blaster drawn in his hand. Everyone moved out of his way who came across him. Most of the bridge personnel weren't armed. Storm troopers were virtually absent.

"Tobias Rune!" He called out with a hoarse voice, it was sure a head turner. Then as he turned to look at the former member of Inferno Squad, he raised his weapon and went to fire. "For harboring traitors to the Empire, you are sentenced to death for treason!"

The Grand Moff gave an amused expression as the man would pull the trigger. Then just as he did so, not only did Rune use the force to stop it, but he used it to deflect the bolt right back at the soldier.

The bolt made it halfway across the bridge before turning around on a dime and slamming into Gideon's chest. He stumbled back, surely breathless. Pain surged through his body and caused him to tumble back.

His head moved back and forward slightly, wanting to check the damage, but he had already lost feeling in his arms. Everything was fading quickly. "Traitors..." He snarled weakly as his head fell limp against the deck plates, his eyes lifelessly glaring at the ceiling.

"Space the body," The Grand Moff sighed in annoyance after he motioned towards a small group of officers who entered the room with E-11 rifles. "I guess I should start doing more security drills..." He muttered to himself and looked forward with his arms crossed. He sat down in the command chair of the bridge and closed his eyes partially.

"Gunners! Target the escape pods with the ion cannons, and fire!" Tobias ordered and crossed his legs as he let thoughts grow in his mind. He'd sift through them, thinking of the possibilities he might venture forth for next. As after this invasion, he foresaw at least two more.
