Chapter 14: Squads.
Four years passed by in the blink of an eye. It was finally time for graduation. To graduate you simple had to use the three basic jutsu, clone, substitute, and henge. Bonus points will be given if you can use a jutsu not on the list. Pass a test on all the basic ninja knowledge such as memorizing the headbands of various ninja and other simple things, pass shurikenjutsu with at least 5 target hits, bonus points would be counted if you can use a weapon besides Kunai and shuriken. I don't like Kunai so I used throwing knives. Pass a test with taijutsu, if you can land a hit on the teacher bonus points will be given. You can also receive bonus points if you show talent in another skill. Kenjutsu, fuinjutsu, medical ninjutsu, tracking. I just showed off my use of a kenjutsu.
Surprisingly there were actually 4 rookie of the years with max points in all the basics. Me, Naruto, Hinata and Sakura.
Hinata had put forth a lot more effort. She was smart already but with proper motivation she put even more effort in. Not to mention all the training we did together. I was invited over to the hyuuga compound quite a lot.
Iruka up at the front cut my thoughts short.
"Team 7 will be Sakura Haruno, Naruto Uzumaki and... Kiba Inuzuka. Your team leader will be Kakashi Hatake." He reads off the list.
Eh? That wasn't supposed to happen.
"Team 8 with consist of Hinata Hyuuga, Shino Aburame, and Sasuke Uchiha. Your team leader will be Kurenai Yuhi." He says as I practically tackled from the side by an excited Hinata.
"Yes!!! We really are on the same team!" She shouts making the rest of the class laugh as she blushes apple red before hiding her face.
"Team 9 is still in rotation so team ten will be Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akamichi and Ino Yamanaka. Your team leader will be Asuma Sarutobi." Iruka says closing his book.
After that a bunch of people enter the classroom.
A woman with wine red eyes and long black hair wearing what appears to be a dress made of bandaged and high healed shinobi sandals call out to us.
"Team 8 follow me." Kurenai says.
Me, Shino and Hinata exit the classroom walking behind her.
She leads us to training ground 8.
"My name is Kurenai Yuhi. My other nickname is the Genjutsu mistress of konoha. You have all been selected for my team which was set up to be a tracking based team. Originally I would have picked Kiba Inuzuka. However I was informed that you Sasuke could also use proper tracking techniques and had the ability to see Chakra. This along with the fact that you are close with Shino and Hinata made me pick you instead. That and I find Kiba extremely rude." She explains with a frown.
Ah so my ability to see Chakra got out. I can only blame the old man.
"I will be testing you all. Your goal is simply to find me." At this point she uses a Genjutsu however Genjutsu don't work on me at all due to my mental shields. "Begin!"
I see Shino and Hinata rush off towards the woods probably following a Genjutsu.
The ground under my feet Crack as I rush forward and plant my foot right into Kurenai stomach blasting her across the training ground with a loud woosh.
Shino and Hinata grind to a halt. They had indeed been following a Genjutsu.
"Ah you guys let your guard down and got caught in a Genjutsu. Didn't I teach you how to defend against that?" Just because they don't work on me doesn't mean I didn't learn how to defend against them.
They both look properly chastised. I had indeed caught them in quite a few Genjutsu before.
"Very good you pass. However I would like to know why you arent affected by my Genjutsu." Kurenai asks coming back into view with a grimace of pain.
"Genjutsu doesn't work on me at all." I inform her.
"And may I ask why you kicked me?"
"You attacked my teammates with a Genjutsu. A kick to the gut is quite effective in disbursing that and I wonder why you just stood there and took it? Perhaps you need more training in taijutsu or were you simply overconfident in your abilities? That's a nasty habit." I reply as her cheeks take on a red hue for a second in embarrassment she quickly controls her features.
"You are correct I was overconfident. It won't happen again." She admits. "Tomorrow we will begin team training and maybe take on a few missions. Meet back here at 7 am."
After that she quickly dissappears from view this time not with Genjutsu.
"I bet she is unhappy." I say with a chuckle.
Shino nods and adjusts his glasses.
Hinata looks a bit down. "We didn't even get to do anything. We were tricked instantly."
"Don't worry about it just learn from this experience. I doubt you would fall for it if this was an enemy. Just make up for it with extra training and remember this lesson. Now how about we all go out to eat? My treat." I reply with a smile.
"Okay!" She cheers up instantly. Along with her training her attitude has gotten much less shy and more happy.
We all went to barbecue and I made sure to pick up cinnamon buns for Hinata. Her addiction to them had only grown.
"I wonder how bitter our team leader is going to be towards me tomorrow." I say jokingly.
However it turned out to not be a joke at all. Kurenai in order to get some respect back decided to try to spar with us since she believes I just took her off guard. This would prove to be a mistake since she ended up being backed into a corner at a fast rate. Years of training with me had forged both shino and hinata into high class taijutsu users. That wasn't including the massive bug swarm and the byakugan being added into the mix. Shino doesn't just stand in the back sending out bugs. He also attacks fiercely with taijutsu and even some earth style ninjutsu I taught him. Hinata is a blur of palms when her weights are off. Not to mention the fantastic teamwork we all have together.
