Chapter 6: My Honesty is Filled with Lies
Lian Lei laughed, "honesty. Yes I am honest, but let me tell you something. Aren't you more honest than me? You are very honest with yourself, yes? As for me, I am honest to those around me. Don't you think we have much to learn from each other? I'm surprised that you haven't told me to shut up yet. With patience like yours there's no doubt that you'll get far. No matter how kind a person is, one would naturally get annoyed when meeting someone as talkative as me. You must have had a lot of practice with that smiling face, you didn't even show a bit of annoyance!"
Yu Yan's smile grew gentle and said, "You're reading me wrong! I'm still smiling because I find you cute!" You wouldn't find any flaws in her smile, she has practiced this millions of times. Since no one has ever seen her true smile, they obviously have nothing to compare it too and assume it a real smile.
"Aiya! If you were a boy I would have already fallen head over heels for you! No wonder all the boys are falling for you left and right, you really aren't just a pretty face. Such a personality really deserves an entourage! Ah, but you shouldn't tell lies! If I were you, I'd definitely be annoyed, how can you find this cute?"
'I would like to eat my lunch if you don't mind,' Yu Yan wanted to tell her, immune to the praise being thrown at her. Praises have been thrown at her ever since she was young and she had long disregarded them. Besides, most were just for formalities sake.
"Hey Lian Lei," Tang Shuren called out, "why don't you shut up and let her eat?"
He was in a very bad mood today because his girlfriend broke up with him that morning. Saying that he wasn't manly enough. Was it his fault that he was born with a baby face? To top it off, he saw her with someone else a few hours later. The feeling of disbelief and sadness soon turned into anger. Yet only one question haunted him mind. Why?
So when the usually quiet classroom was filled with the noise from Lian Lei talking, he irrationally blew up.
Lian Lei quickly flitted from Yu Yan to Tang Shuren, her bubbly personality resembling that of a mosquito in Tang Shuren's eyes.
"Your still in highschool! Why are you so sad? You still have until your dead you know!" she said, her bright smile stinging the eyes of Tang Shuren.
"What do you know?" he fired at her and the eyes of the students in the hallway and those left in the class all turned on him and his temper rose even higher. "What are you all looking at? Do you think this is free entertainment?"
'Are you on your period?' Yu Yan wanted to ask him, amazed at his temper. But it wasn't her place to do so, he probably had a good reason behind this. She got up from her seat and went out the door, a few students following her suit so that they wouldn't get caught in his temper tantrum.
"That's a good question," Lian Lei started, "what do I know? What do we all know? What do you know? She probably struggled to tell you this, you know? But times like this require a bit of selfishness. You can cry you know, here I know a place where we can g-"
"Stop talking, just leave me alone yeah?" reigning in his emotions, he stormed out of the classroom with Lian Lei following after him.
"Hey! If you enter the boy's bathroom like that, how am I supposed to talk to you?" she yelled after him.
Yu Yan absentmindedly walked towards the cafeteria. The words 'you can cry' echoing in her mind. In a world as cruel as this, crying is a sign of weakness. A flaw that must be abolished. At least, that was what Yu Yan was taught ever since young.
She thought that people telling others to cry was only found in fictional stories. Who would've thought that someone actually believed that crying was okay. Besides, if he did cry then that will be the end of him. There is little to no doubt that the others will mock him for showing a sign of weakness.
