Chapter 6: System Activation

Six months later, 1st of September 2250.

Noa stirred from his sleep long before the sun had risen over the horizon. After six grueling months of basic physical training, he was finally set to take the military specialization test.

He checked his uniform one last time to ensure it was crisp and clean before making his way to the military education center.

As he walked towards the center, Noa's mind raced with thoughts of what the specialization test would entail. Would it involve more physical training or focus on knowledge-based skills? The uncertainty made him slightly uneasy, but he pushed those feelings aside and concentrated on the task at hand.

Upon arriving at the center, a stern-looking officer directed him to the testing area. The building was sleek and modern-looking with high walls and polished floors that shone like mirrors. Computer terminals were arranged throughout the room, and other soldiers had already taken their seats. Noa sat down at the back of the room.

Without wasting time, Noa's fingers began to fly over the keyboard as he logged into his account. With the little free time he had, he quickly scanned his inbox for any messages, and found one from So-Rin wishing him luck on his test.

So-Rin had also undergone the same six months of basic military training, but in a separate facility for women. It was a new convention enforced by the government.

Grateful for the message, Noa replied, "Thank you. Is it possible for us to meet today? Perhaps you could come to the education center."

So-Rin seemed to be online and saw Noa's reply. He eagerly awaited her response to his message. After a few moments, her reply appeared on the screen.

"Regulations are very strict. I can't leave the laboratory," So-Rin typed.

Noa let out a sigh of disappointment. He had been hoping to thank So-Rin in person for all the help and support she had provided, but it seemed like it would have to wait.

"I understand," Noa replied, trying to hide his disappointment.

So-Rin's next message came quickly. "Don't worry, after you complete your basic training and education in the military, we can definitely meet up."

Noa leaned back in his chair and let out a deep breath. He knew that it would still be a long time before they could meet, but at least he had something to look forward to.

When the announcement that the exam would begin soon echoed through the room, Noa's attention was pulled back, and he quickly bid goodbye to So-Rin and focused his attention on the test in front of him.

Recalling all the knowledge and skills he had gained during his basic training, Noa carefully read and answered each question to the best of his ability.

After he answered the final question, all that was left to do was to wait for the results.

Fortunately, it only took three days for the envelope containing the results to finally arrive. Noa could hardly contain his excitement as he tore it open to reveal a letter congratulating him on passing the test with a good score and being accepted into the programming class.

Noa felt a wave of excitement wash over him. He didn't remember what his hobbies had been before joining the military, but he knew that he loved anything related to technology, especially computer science.

After taking a specialization, Noa's schedule didn't become less packed. On the contrary, it increased as he dove headfirst into his new studies, eager to learn everything he could about programming and how it could be used in the military.

Each morning, Noa would rise earlier than the sun and practiced his grueling physical training regimen. His routine included long-distance runs, endurance exercises, strength training, and weapons practice.

After completing his training, Noa would then head to his programming classes. The curriculum was rigorous, with complex algorithms and coding languages requiring countless hours of study.

Despite his schedule being filled to the brim, Noa was still able to balance his physical training and academic pursuits with ease. Not only that, he did better than most of his peers. His unique constitution made him the perfect candidate for the military's specialized training program.

He had several mutations that were beneficial to his athletic capabilities, as well as to his intelligence. While it was not rare for a human to have an advantageous mutation, having as many as Noa's was one in a hundred million. Of course, that meant that Noa wasn't the only one.

After undergoing a special education program, all soldiers in the military were ordered to report to the laboratory. As they marched in unison, their boots rhythmically clicked against the gleaming floor, creating an atmosphere of tension and anticipation.

Noa sensed the gravity of the situation when they entered the laboratory.

The soldiers were greeted by a team of scientists, who briefed them on the latest breakthrough in military technology. Professor Noa Yoshiaki had improved the system according to Infrablack's wishes, and the soldiers were invited there to test the experiment.

Their commanding officer soon nodded his head, signaling the start of the experiment. One by one, they were given microchip headsets that connected their brain to a computer system.

It was the latest breakthrough in military technology, and Noa was fortunate enough to be part of the demonstration.

As the soldiers activated the headsets, their eyes glazed over slightly as a digital display dominated their sight.

The headset translated their thoughts to something the computer system would understand, and the computer system would process the data they received and return relevant information to the user. It was quite a magnificent invention, massively improving efficiency.

Despite the convenience the new device brought, Noa still felt uneasy. This kind of technology was indeed impressive, but it had potential to heavily impact everything.

Not to mention that the system was still at its infancy stage, and no one knew what would happen once it was further improved.

Little did Noa know, the system was the key to a new world. It was something he wouldn't know until he had finished another long round intense physical training and rigorous education program. Only after that would he undergo the passing out parade to officially become one of the soldiers under Infrablack's control.
