Chapter 9: Rover Island (7)

At midnight,

"Are you sure this will work?" Mo Xuan had a doubt if this was really going to work, But An Jiaxin stood up from crouching down as she straightened her back, wiping off the sweat drips from her forehead along with a faint smile.

"Hmm… If what I did really does work, then there is a possibility that we can clear this stage!" An Jiaxin looked at Mo Xuan in his eyes, he could clearly see the confidence in them which made him lift up the corner of his lips.

"If so, then all we can do now is to wait and see." Shi Xue crossed her arms over her chest, leaning on Jia Nan slightly.

"Hmph! And here I was wondering where the smell of instant noodles and chicken drumsticks were coming from!" Jia Nan pouted as she glared at An Jiaxin then turned around.

The guilty conscience of An Jiaxin made her click her tongue in silence, although she didn't dared to tell the truth.

"It's not mine, I got these cans from Mr. Mo!"

In an instant, she diverted all the attention towards Mo Xuan, who was standing a few meters away from the gathering around An Jiaxin, saying that he didn't like space gathering.

He became baffled at the sudden unwanted attention and scorching hot glares coming from different directions.

'What happened? Why are they looking at me like that?'

"Mr. Mo, I heard that you have some supplies with you? Can you share some of them with us?" one of the guys asked out without caring about his image, which made Mo Xuan finally understand the condition.

He turned around towards An Jiaxin, who was also looking at him with sparkling eyes begging him for help.

'So, she used me as bait?'

Mo Xuan smirked as he crossed his arms over his chest, "The supplies are mine, since I found them first. But unfortunately, I don't have any of them with me now."

"Last night, I deliver led them to Ms. An to keep them in check."

An Jiaxin was dumbstruck when she heard his answer, and in an instant, all the glowing eyes returned towards her again.

'Did he just dodge the bullet and turn it back to me?'

Her face went dark as she remained silent, standing there like a stone golem.

'Hey, You should share some of them with us too.'

'Ms. An, you got plenty of them with you, right?'

'Her inventory must be loaded, guys!'

'An Jiaxin, do you mind sharing some with us?'

"However…" Before anyone could retaliate, Mo Xuan opened his mouth once more, diverting the attention dramatically again.

"Ms. An is my subordinate that is currently working under my instructions, so she doesn't count in this matter."

"But, we can trade the supplies in another way."

"Like, we will share the instant noodles and some meat, but in return, give up your sleep for ten days!"

An Jiaxin also understood what Mo Xuan was targeting, but he was actually way more intellectual than she thought.

Originally, An Jiaxin did think of sharing the supplies with these players, but in that way, they would've turned dependent on her alone.

Which will make them weak and easy targets during the game.

But Mo Xuan's strategy of 'Food for Job' was something she still needs to think out thoroughly, because this was the best way to improve the work in hand that they had.

In this way, they wouldn't dare to shamelessly ask for more and demand or blackmail her. A perfect plan for retaliation!

"Well, fine! We are going to work anyway, I'm tired of eating the same thing everyday!"

"Guys, let us divide in groups and start the work, we need to take care of the field too."

After the others were gone, only Mo Xuan and An Jiaxin remained there in silent darkness.

"I'm sorry for overstepping, Did I do something wrong?" Mo Xuan was the first to break the silence as he looked at the dark figure.

"...Not at all. Actually, this was the best option anyways." An Jiaxin replied after a long silence.

"I was also thinking to share some with them anyway, since they are gonna give us free labor!" An Jiaxin smiled which went unseen by Mo Xuan.

"I thought you almost exposed me earlier! But what's wrong with this 'commander subordinate' thing? Since we are working together, shouldn't we be comrades-in-arms? Don't call me like that, I don't like it!" An Jiaxin complained as she couldn't stand the way he addressed her.

'What? He can flirt inside the room, and turn strangers outside the room? What a damn two-faced fox!'

"Hmm? You are my subordinate because now you are living under my shelter, whether you like it or not." Mo Xuan's voice sounded strange when he said the words, but then he intentionally changed the topic.

"By the way, where did you learn to do something like this?" He was looking at the can and straws gathered in front of his leg as he asked.

"Hmm… I learned it in a book, though I didn't have the chance to use it in real life." An Jiaxin said with a casual tone, which made Mo Xuan go speechless.

'You didn't even use it in real life, how are you so sure that it will work?'

Anyway, he decided to see how it goes from the sidelines. Because whatever An Jiaxin did till now didn't look like something she wasn't sure of, although she claims everything she did was done for the first time in her life, she looked like someone who was a veteran when working with all her focus on that one thing.

First, she took out the gaslight and petrol secretly from her space as she took some straw and an old piece of cloth, after setting them on fire, An Jiaxin started to mince the fire slowly, little by little.

It wasn't time yet, so she continued to gather straws little by little, not letting the air to nip it away.
