Chapter 142: Life and Other Normal Stuff
Jason took out all of the ingredients he needed, this was a good chance to work on his cooking skill.
Steak and potatoes were the obvious things. Jason started to think a bit about what he wanted to make. He could just cook those but he wanted something better. Boops kept on lecturing Jason to make salad and Jason after the umpteenth time finally gave into Boops's lecture.
Jason gave up making anything more than steak and potatoes with salad, it already was a full meal, but he still had creative freedom for desert.
He fired up the pan and put oil in it and waited for it to heat up. While he waited he started to wash the potatoes.
He took out a peeler, but Perseus stopped Jason and grabbed the peeler.
"ima do dis, you go make me some steak and make it medium please"
Jason rolled his eyes and went to the pan that had heated up completely.
He placed the pieces of meat onto it and watched as the meat sizzled on the pan. Thankfully the meat already was seasoned, but the sizzling sound it made and the aroma of the meat instantly woke Arjuna up. Jason could tell because he heard a loud bang on the underside of the kitchen table.
Arjuna crawled out from underneath the table groaning and holding his head. He tiredly pushed himself up and walked to Jason and the pan. He peeked over Jason's shoulder to look at the meat and Jason didn't need Boops to tell him that Arjuna was drooling.
Arjuna quickly asked Jason
"master when is the food going to be ready?"
Jason though for a bit, but before Jason was able to think up an answer Boops's voice sounded in Arjuna's voice and Jason's
'ehh it should be in like 10 minutes at the rate it's cooking now, you want it rare, medium or well done?"
"medium please"
'alright, Jason I think you know what to do"
Jason nodded in confirmation and Arjuna happily went to the living room to collapse once more on the couch. But as he was about the exit the kitchen he turned to Jason and said to him sincerely
"thank you, master, for everything"
Arjuna without another word almost ran to the couch to sleep on, absolutely nothing was going to get in his way.
Jason turned to Perseus and said in a slight smile
"see your twin has manners, what about you?"
Perseus turned to Jason with a playful grin on his face. He was holding a potato in one hand and a knife in the other. He was peeling the skins of the potatoes off and he faced Jason and flicked a potato skin at him. Jason swatted it out of the air before it could reach his face though.
As Jason searched for something he could throw in retaliation, Perseus answered while making the money sign.
"I get results, and money while I'm at it"
"you're totally like the evil merchants in the novels huh?"
Perseus grinned happily at Jason's conjecture
"yup! and I'm glad to play that part!"
Jason smilled and turned his attention back to the cooking meat. It seems the meat was ready and Jason flipped all of them. The meat countied to sizzle while the smell of cooked meat filled the kitchen.
Perseus called to Jason
"Master I'm going to cook the potatoes k?"
"Yeah, go ahead"
Boops started to talk with Jason while he watched the meat diligently
'you know, your relationship with the twins is a bit different from a regular master-servant relationship. It's more close kinda like brothers'
"well yeah, that's what we are technically with how our background was made"
'Yeah but, they definitely aren't treating you like a regular master and you definitely don't treat them as servants'
"its subordinates Boops not servants, there is a big difference in the title"
'True, but it's much different from the version or how subordinates were used, it may have been a part of you that influenced them since, they were kinda born a about 2 months ago.'
Jason thought a bit about how he taught them when they were born. He was still immature so, he wasn't sure if what he did was right, but with the help of Boops and his teacher Laura he tried his best. It seems that Perseus learned a bit from Boops' upbeat outgoing personality, and Arjuna took after the quiet and lazy side of Jason.
Still, though they had already started to grow, in body, mind, and soul and to be honest, even though it had only been a short amount of time. Jason was fricking proud of them. Growing from toddlers to teenagers in a short amount of time might have seemed weird to Jason, but it was like watching a timelapse of them growing.
Obviously they were still growing, and so did Jason. But dang Jason felt like a parent watching his child stand up for the first time or something.
Perhaps by Jason watching somebody grow, he too was able to grow.
Perseus called out to Jason while he was deep in thought
"master the foods going to get overcooked if you wait any longer"
"awww *&^%(&*%$*%^("
Jason hurriedly took the pan away from the stove and placed it on the counter. He checked the meat and found that it was slightly above medium. It was still fine though, and he started to cut it revealing the juicy pieces of meat with the middle still a tiny bit red. The seasoning wafted up into Jason's nose, and he tried his best to not grab a slice right then and now.
After he finished cutting everything up he brought it to the table where the twins were waiting eagerly with their utensils held in their hands. Perseus had already finished the potatoes and placed them on the table.
The moment Jason put the meat on the table the twins rushed to the meat and started to devour them. Jason was reminded of the wolves eating their food.
After 20 minutes al three of them burped contentedly and started to talk a bit. Before Arjuna was a bit quiet and Perseus was the one that talked most of the time. But now things were flipped, Arjuna was much more comfortable with Jason and had completely opened it.
He started to complain about how cooped up he felt, and how the NPC's were overworking him. Especially the archer master, Arjuna did mention how he was always getting offered better discounts by the alchemist guild and adventure guild respectively. He also talked endlessly about the dream world that he had found.
Every time he talked about the dream world, his brown eyes would light up. And his face would always have a happy face on. His lightly toned skin glowed and his slightly shaggy black hair would sway. His slightly young childish face proudly displayed dimples which to Jason was one of the first time he saw Arjuna smile that deeply.
Arjuna kept on rambling on and on, and it was only until Perseus was forced to shut Arjuna's mouth so that he could talk did he finally shut up.
Once Arjuna stopped talking it was now Perseus's time to brag about stuff. He proudly displayed the rewards and achievements he got by being the first guild master and how he successfully recruited 30 young boys before the majority of the player base reached the actual game world.
Arjuna took Perseus's bragging as a challenge and successfully interrupted him to brag about his equipment and new skills that he gained. He showed off his newly taught skill (arrow making) and showed everyone the arrows that he had made himself. He also showed them a photo of his gear, which he could wear in real life, but he didn't want to ask Jason for points to transfer them into real life.
After a few hours of Perseus and Arjuna going back and forth on their achievements like children with Jason adding in a few of his accomplishments. The 3 of them got up and started to head to their rooms to sleep.
Boops had already set an alarm for Jason to wake up before the sun rose so he could get there before his next instructor came by.
Jason brushed his teeth drank some water, took a shower, and then noticed that he needed a hair cut. His hair was overgrown and was a bit poofy. It was a bit comical with such a muscular body such as Jason, with such a harmless and fluffy hairstyle.
As Jason went to sleep, a sudden saying popped into his head. It was a saying his mom used to say all the time to him and his siblings.
He didn't remember where it came from, but it always stuck with him, he might have gotten some parts wrong, no he vividly remembered coming back from a little adventure with his mother and father. With his mother sitting him down and telling him while hugging him lovingly
[Twenty years from now on you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.]
[So throw off the bowlines,]
[Sail away from the safe harbor.]
[Catch the trade winds in your sails,]
[Explore, Dream, Discover.]
Jason fell into sleep with a peaceful smile on his face.
